I think you would've served me a fair bit in your last year there then so. Not a place we frequent anymore. The barmaid there with the black hair isnt exactly our biggest fan!

I think I remember your gang alright. Fierce men for the Tennents. Was one of you by any chance a Lynch from Kilnaleck?

No thats not one of us.. We're a different gang. The owner is a pure gentleman. Fahy isnt it? We were the only one's in there durin the day one time and he sent us down pints for no apparent reason.

ACTribe - I was a little bit more old school than those people but I know them alright.

JonSmith - That's the fella surely. Soundest boss I ever had. Forget however busy the bar is during the college year, rag week etc. Race Week is a totally different ball game altogether.

Went a couple of years ago for the week. A great week but think i went with the wrong crowd.

I wanted to be in the pubs in quay street, they wanted the clubs, getting pushed around by insecure mayo boys who think you're goin to steal their girl.

Jays that was actually five years ago now.

Still remember the name of my only winner

-Lilly Shing Shang, a silver horse at 9/1, 15 euro paid out nicely for me.

conor15 County: All Posts: 281 346297 Yes lads only around the corner now.Cant wait!im goin doin the 7 days as usual. If its money your after Monday,Tuesday and Sunday are the days. The craic will start on wednesday and wont stop til Friday morning. as for the pubs etc you wont go far wrong around eyre square, soe great pubs! As for the horses, a few local trainers are starting to pick up form with val o brien and paul john gilligan having recent winners. Weld is also going pretty well and so is David Marnane WhoI think will have a bag of winners. If I had to say one outsider for the plate i would have to say Keys pride who i think is primed for this race all year. Best of luck to every one coming down and i hope ye will have a great week The RP site have started charging now for their services, you have to pay to see breeding, quotes, spotlights, analysis, anything that you might need costs money. Bit of a disgrace if you ask me. Anyway, I agree with you about Marnane, really making a name for himself, should be having a winner or two at least. And Weld will probably dominate as usual. I was looking at the entries for the Hurdle, I had Pires in mind but looking at it there, he'll probably get balloted. I still think he'll run somewhere and AJ might finally let the handbrake off, just got home in front the other day in Killarney but probably has other two stone in hand!!! And at first glance at the Plate, RoyalCountyStar stands out, I think 2m 6f is his ideal trip definitely.

Dellboy, Tony Martin trains a horse called Stage Manager, what do you know about him? I think he has a big chance at 16/1 in the Galway Hurdle. Won at last year's Festival doing handstands and has only ran twice since (and to put it mildly, he wasn't asked a whole lot in either race). He's on a fair enough mark given how easy he won a year ago. The great man surely has a horse or two laid out for next week, have you any info for us?

If Pat Martin runs Kaitlins Joy in a one mile race (and I am told he will), then she will get swallowed up on the bend. She has risen over three stone since her first win, I can't see her winning another handicap off her current rating. I'd well believe Tj's Joy is flying at home but it has only run in two maidens so it will not be trying on its next start. On the fourth start - which I presume will be a nursery - I believe it will skate in. That would be my take on them two horses.

In the big race tomorrow, I am leaning towards Sophocles. This is a horse who in another 50 yards would have won a Cheltenham Champion Bumper in 2007. Only Cork AllStar beat him. Last year he won a race at Galway by 11L and I suspect the hills at places like Cheltenham and Galway really bring out the best in him. The hill will sort out a lot of the field as will the heavy ground but conditions are set up for Sophocles in my opinion. Finally, if you seen its last race where the rider barely extended herself or the horse, you would - like me - think that it was being trained for something. I also like the look of Dreamy Gent for Jessie and Kate Harrington too and I have this race between these two.

I have a feeling that this Galway is going to be a bookies benefit. Many of these horses are proper summer horses who want to hear there hooves rattle. With the ground being as it is i reckon theres going to be some awful strange results.....!! At least the craic will still be mighty

Yeah I see what you are saying but I love when the ground goes like this. Lots of horses can be ruled out because you can be fairly sure they won't handle the testing conditions. A 16 runner race can pretty quickly be turned into a 6 runner race.

Sophocles at 14/1 looks a stand out bet for me today.

Thats true enough loyal. If only the ground was reasonably decent i reckon Truckers Delight would have been very tempting this evening. Even still he might run into a place if he runs at all. Welds horse in the bumper could be the one to be on. Strange that he's been pulled out twice because of the ground yet the first day it was because it was soft/heavy then the second day it was good to firm. He may just want nice good ground. If weld runs him they must think its suitable ground for him.

Very little Lockjaw. Is it running this week?

I like the jockey who rides it; Emmet McNamara from County Limerick. Champion Apprentice last year and I think he is a first cousin of top jumps jockey Andrew, though I could be wrong. The horse looks unique enough talent, not many horses in Ireland can finish in the first two in five succcessive handicaps in Ireland and still be competitive.
