What jersey do you wear ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I wear a nice Cross Rangers one. Its hard not to walk with a swagger when you've the black and amber on! The stripes make me appear even taller than I already am as well. The ladies like a well dressed South Armagh man...

I prefer to call it jersey hunting instead of stealing baker the glen. and dressing rooms in clones and croke park can be just as good as the holylands sometimes. although in weather like this it's hard not to be tempted!

I profess to having quite an assortment of sporting apparel from across the globe. In my possession are -

An Oxford Blue
An Old Etonian Rugby jersey
Princeton University basketball singlet complete with college motto Dei sub numine viget (Under God's power she flourishes)
Yale University athletics singlet
Cambridge rowing kit
Leitrim hurling uniform
and finally a coveted MCC cricket shirt signed by Sir Ian Terence Botham.

While I greatly treasure and value these items I must confess that I feel we have accepted the unscientific assertion that all reality is material, and so we dismiss the spiritual as a superstitious fantasy, a hold-over from less enlightened times necessary for those benighted folks still mired in exploded beliefs. But such is life.

G'lad Carl!
In your attempt to cram as many 'fantastic' words into one statement you seem to have overlooked the fact that each segment of your statement is simply a contradiction of the previous few 'fantastic' words!

Who ya foolin?!

My dear Mr. Snufalufagus

This is clearly not so. I note your mathematical shortcomings have recently been exposed hereon and now I fear for your comprehension of basic theological utterances. You appear to have a modicum of knowledge on matters of a historic nature but again your interpretation and conceptualization of same can be in the least, questionable.

I will leave you with a thought from my good firend Gerda Lerner, who opined - What we do about history matters. The often repeated saying that those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them has a lot of truth in it. But what are 'the lessons of history'? The very attempt at definition furnishes ground for new conflicts. History is not a recipe book; past events are never replicated in the present in quite the same way. Historical events are infinitely variable and their interpretations are a constantly shifting process. There are no certainties to be found in the past.

had a friend working in a hotel in dublin around the time of the All-Ireland! there was a group of lads staying in one of the rooms....she went in to clean it...needless to say it was in a state....mess and clothes everywhere apart from the county jerseys ironed and hanging in the wardrobe....ready and waiting for the big day!!!

Plenty of Meath jersey's dating back to the mid nineties, a lot of which are too small for me but I can't bring myself to give/throw away.
A London jersey from a few years back.
An old New York jersey.
A Carlow jersey because of the freaky colours.
Can never bring myself to buy other counties jerseys in case they beat Meath. Here's hoping we can beat Carlow this weekend.
In other sports I have 2 West Ham jerseys, and a West Coast Eagles AFL jersey (or Guernsey as the Aussies call them).

I cannot think of all the jerseys I have but seeing as most of them can be picked up for a tenner in O'Neills, I picked up a few over the years - very handy for training. Amongst the pick of the bunch, I have the Clare football, Galway ladies, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Limerick, Mayo, Wicklow, Roscommon, Tipperary, Laois, Kerry home and away, Meath, Monaghan, Westmeath and I think there could be a Monaghan one lurking around too.
I have to say that I am proud of the fact that on two occasions, I wore jerseys from two different counties on one day in Croke Park - Leinster Final Day 2002, All-Ireland Semi Final also 2002.
Longford v Meath in Leinster minor final, I wore Longford jersey, then after the presentation, I ran down to the back of the old hill and put on my Dublin jersey. Then when Longford played Derry and Dublin played Armagh, I did the same again. Turncoat? Moi?

Carl,

Yet again you have done it!

A few lines of your own gibberish comments followed by a quote by an agitator on something utterly detached!

It is my opinion upon reading the long winded quotes uttered by distinguised persons that the statement is usually of the 'catch-all' variety often ambiguous and worded in guarded tones!
Were such a person to 'lay there cards on the table' and utter their true beliefs they might not be so PC and hence leave them open to ridicule by others who pretend to be PC (when it suits)!

My beliefs on 'history' in this country are quite basic to say the least and I do not need to go into elaborate language to express it.

History is something written about by people who were never there and detached from the whole episode, but just like politics I believe that all history is local! Wounds of the past can be slow to heal and in this country what some say is consigned to history.......certainly is not!

My beilef on history is this: Events occur and we live them thereafter!
They are not forgotten about. An event occurs - lesson learned - move on! This does not occur!
Rather, an event occurs then the people adjust themselves and carry the knowledge of that event with them and always live with that knowledge in the back of their mind and function accordingly!

There is no line drawn and we all move on. This is the reality of things, so save me the utterance of Ms. Gerda Lerner because such namby-pamby 'catch-all' statements do not wash with me!

Clash-of-the-ash, the O'Neills factory store is located on the kylemore road. It's in behind the bathroom/tiling places which are almost opposite Lidl (or Aldi) and close to Drimnagh Castle.

To Down Exile, I actually have a Down jersey that I bought on the GAAstore.com for the princely sum of 10 pounds.
I used to work with a guy from the beautiful town of Newcastle and after a weekend up there i decided to buy it.
