Best Premiership team ever

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Before the champions league final there was all this talk this united squad was the best British club team ever. But after that Final, i dont feel this is the case, with a midfield of a once great but past it Giggs, a token south Korean Park, a talented but young Anderson, And a donkey like carrick against the likes if xavi, iniesta and messi they hadn't a hope. Even throughout the season a poor Arsenal team bet them at home and drew with them in old trafford. They drew with Chelsea twice and won and lost to the pool. Not really world beating statistics. The best premiership team ever in my opinion is the Arsenal team (The invincibles) of the 2003/2004 season. The football this team played to go 49 games unbeaten was unbelivable, and with Henry, Viera, Pires and the Iceman Bergkamp at their best, thet were unstopable. I know they didn win the champions league or even get the double that year but i still feel they were the best Premier league team ever. Obviously theres some other teams like the treble winning united or even the Leeds team of 01!, and Maybe the early Blackburn and Newcastle teams but i wouldn remember that far, any thoughts?

Liverpool had some magnificent teams in the 80s, and would probably have won quite a few more Champions Leagues or Europen Cup as it was known at the time had they not been banned from Europe. The Liverpool team that won the double in 86 was a magnificent team, as was the Liverpool team that won their last league title in 1990.

Premiership?

Arsenal went through this "best league in the World" unbeaten so must be the best team ever ever ever.

Just couldn't win against teams from other leagues.

Best British side ever? Spurs double team, Forest 1979/80, Liverpool 1977/78, Celtic 1967-70, or maybe Arsenal in the 1930s.

Its about time the likes of 32_4 1, Gilly2308 and the old patrique pulled themselves together before someone pull-es them apart, because at the end of the day nobody likes a sore loser. These 3 lads cant help it, they just just have to hear the name United and all hell breaks loose. Sometimes it is is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and remove all possibility Sometimes i wonder is patrique the real Jim Allister and Gilly 2308 our old friend Dr Garreth Fitz and last but not ;east 32_4_1 Mr personality Kenny Dalgleish.

Any particular United team Mr Mulligan?

The 1948 Johnny Carey led Cup Winners garnered much praise, but couldn't win a league title.

The Babes were well beaten in Europe by Real and Milan, some things NEVER change in football, and the 1968team were at the end of the road, a very poor second in England that year to Manchester City.

1994 double team? Humiliated by a Swedish team in Europe, destroyed by Barcelona.

1999 treble team? Fortuitous to win in Europe having been totally outplayed in the final, and totally outclassed by redondo the following year.

So I think it could be a case of reality, rather than bias, that means I do not nominate any United side as the best british team.

I mean, small provincial sides like Notts Forest won two European Cups in a row, a feat well beyond any United team.

Jim Allister? Don't know him or who he plays/played for. Was it United?

I live in London and when anyone mentions 'United' I think of West Ham. Such is the arrogance of Man Utd supporters they think merely saying the word 'United' we should know what they mean. And that is very difficult when so few have a Mancunian accent.

As for the answer to this question, I suppose it would have to be the Arsenal team that went unbeaten. The fact that they didn't lose a match all season in the league speaks volumes.

Dellboy, do you have an opinion on everything?, and to finish off a post with 'that is all' means that you love yourself so much that you think only your opinion matters. I'm thinking about starting a thread about the Large Hadron Collider used by CERN and I would love to see your response. Most of your 5,000 plus posts are all one line answers in order to bump up your post count. Sad.

Oh and I agree, the Arsenal Invincibles are the best Premiership team ever.

Well i certainly do have a Mancunian accent along with around 1 million others in the Manchester region, but who's counting. But don't blame us for the fact the the whole wide world wants to be part of the FAMOUS UNITED. We are not racist at the Theatre Of Dreams we accept all types of colours and creeds. Even the maroon and white would you believe. O and by the way who is this West Ham team you mentioned never heard of them???? The best team in the Prem has to be the FAMOUS UNITED TEAM of 94. Schmeichel, Irwin, Keane, Robson, Irwin, Ince, Sharp, Giggs, Kanchelskis Hughes and of course Cantona to name but a few. What a team!!!! It had raw pace power and what a presence awwwwsome. Nothing can touch that team not even the 99 treble winning team.

That's the team that lost to Gothenburg in Europe, and got beat 4-0 by Barcelona, who lost in the final by the same score to an understrength Milan.

And Gothenburg were short two postmen who had to work late and couldn't face United.

Well done on having a Mancunian accent, Mancirish. Though that's normally the realm of a Man City fan in my experience.

Oh and West Ham United also happen to be the team that Manchester United couldn't beat on the final day of the 1994/95 season meaning Blackburn Rovers won the title.

Does 'West Ham' ring any bells now?

I think you're getting Mancunian confused with Stockport, that's where most of Citehs fans come from. The city is fairly evenly divided between the two clubs, depending where you grew up. The non-Mancunian stereotype grew from Old Trafford being in the Borough of Trafford, and not in the Borough of Manchester (although it is still in Greater Manchester). It used be an old favourite of City fans to claim to be the club of the City because their ground fell within the Borough, and with United's growing multinational support, the myth grew stronger.

The majority of the team that won the Prem 94 were not aloud to play in the European Cup due to the foreigner ruling UEFA introduced to try and stop the English teams dominating the European Cup as they had done before our Merseyside cousins decided -----. I was sat in the stands myself with Peter schmeichel and Eric Cantona not to far away from me. 2 of the best players in the world robbed from the team. There were a lot more, but i just thought i would mention those 2 for you. But there you go the scousers robbed us again. Well it is in there blood isn't it???? Whats wrong with postmen anyway Neil Webb's having fun delivering post for a living these days. Have a look at your cricket team top 8 in the world now with 3 postmen, 2 accountants and a dinner lady. You'll be critersizing them next????? Sorry West Awake how many Prems is it now 11, there have been that many I've lost count. Not bad from 17, you can't win them all. But we have had a good go!!!! Finally the YAWWWWN about no manc at Old T has been well played out. When were you there to know West Awake. Were you counting all the Manc's when they walked in. well fair play to ya.
