Derry v Tyrone

I seriously doubt that Niamh. Tyrone are more interested in doing back to back all ireland titles than to beat derry in an ulster semi-final.

Look guys I think we should celebrate the fact that we have a potentially superb game in prospect between two of the top four counties in Ireland. Lookin forward to it immensely and want a good clean fight! However the standout fixture in Ulster is yet to come on 27 june 09.

Niamh,

"this is the fiercest rivalry at the lot"... It might be to Derry but im sure Tyrone have bigger worries than yous.

Tyrone by 3.

Hmmm, from a Monaghan man still with a chip on his shoulder about the fact they couldn't get a score on the board in the last 15 minutes against 14 men in Celtic Park? Get real, this is THE biggest rivalry in Gaelic Football!

Reddick - It's not that long ago Peter Canavan was a "great player with NO medals", as you know the tide can change very quick!!!!

Niamh please don't speak for me. How can you guarantee what Tyrone would rather happen to them? Kerry our are rivals now - ahead of the likes of Derry, Carlow and Longford. They are our rivals because they have a genuine and realistic chance of challenging us in our guest to keep Sam at home in Omagh where he belongs.

Che Finny; I can almost guarantee

As I say, keep going on the way your going from what has been said on this thread already you have a far higher perch to fall off on Sunday than I do.

I would think tyrone should win comfortably,i think derry have been over rated this past few years and will be found out this year again.

Bald Eagle and Niamh,

I dont have a chip thats simply the truth. Im sure Tyrone dont want to loose on Sunday but i can 'almost guarantee' that they are really looking ahead to the rivalry towards the end of the summer, Derry are just another hurdle they have to jump. Years ago there was real rivalry between the too but Tyrone are gone above that. They are nearly even abovr the Tyrone Armagh rivalry. Derry dont have a realistic chance against Tyrone and, as far as i can see, have developed a healthy rivalry with the great Monaghan team! Maybe Derry fans just live in the past where it could of gone either way. Not anymore guys.

Jays i cant stop thinking about this one, very nervous now.

Just to let some people know what it is to Derry fans. I once heard a story about a former Derry manager laying into one of his players for swapping shirts with a Tyrone man. "what the **** do you wnat one of them for". We used to use one as an oven cloth when I was at Uni.

I can almost guarantee Tyrone would rather lose to Kerry by 10 than Derry by one. It is as bitter as you can get, don't the posts of the Tyrone fans on this thread indicate that?

----

surely niamh you can only speak for yourself. its clear for derry people that tyrone are their biggest rival seein as they share around half their land border. if you take the bother to have a gander at the following

http://www.mccaskie.org.uk/images/Ulster_Map.jpg

you will see that tyrone share a land border with many many counties and to be sure to be sure the wee rivilary with derry in terms of locality is minimal.

joan_balantine, it doesn't matter, tell me that the people around loughshore give that much of a crap about Donegal or Fermanagh. Also Omen, rivalry has little to do with the level of performance it is to do with history, land borders etc.

Should be a facile victory for the aristocrats of Tyrone.
Derry will do well not to embarass themselves as badly as they did again Monag.

Is that how you feel then Niamh? Would you rather be stuffed by say, Dublin than beaten by a point by Tyrone? I reckon you're mirroring your own hostility here. I don't like losing to Derry but equally I don't like losing to Armagh either but I can live with it and have done many times before. They are close neighbours on both sides of our border. If anything the Armagh rivarly has been stronger in recent yrs as they have been in closest contention. And in fairness there are a range of bitter posts on this thread and they aren't all from Tyrone (or Derry either for that matter). A wee bit of balance goes a long way!

Well it cant be a great rivalry when Tryone are, without doubt, the better team.

ClonoeExile i have to agree with niamh from Derry.

I can tolerate Armagh winning and can even accept getting beat by them. However Derry is a different story. Its possibly cause i live on the Tyrone/Derry border tho.

Omen, what sort of a stupid statement is that? Are you saying that teams can't have a rivalry if one is better than the other? Do you know anything about sport?

Also, i love the way that some of the Tyrone posters are trying to play down the Derry Tyrone rivalry, covering their asses i think after the last Championship outing against us!

Dosent matter losing to any team that is your rival..

Losing by 1pt has the same outcome as losing by 20/30 pts

Your out the backdoor

They would be great rivals. History is littered with great games when they meet. Derry and Tyrone, yeah a bit of rivalry there but not on the same scale as any of the above and certainly not the greatest rivalry in Ireland. I can't even think of any great games between the sides! I would also have said that Tyrone-Armagh would be far more bitter than any Derry-Tyrone game given how both have dominated their province as far back as 1995! From what I can see the Derry posters are looking for a reason to get themselves put in the same sentence as Tyrone because evidently the Tyrone posters don't agree that this is that much of a rivalry either.

Do most of the Tyrone posters really think that their team will win handy enough, pulling up as it were?If you do it's a genuine enough opinion. You could be right!
You have to admire the work ethic to compensate for the lack of quality at midfield for Tyrone. In years gone by with that midfield pairing you wouldn't give them much chance. It just goes to show how much the game has changed.
