Derry v Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Can only see a Tyrone win here. Derry will try to mix it up with them but won't last the distance, Tyrone are miles ahead of everyone else in Ulster.
I can see a sending off or two in this one......Derry to self-implode.

Maybe these ballinderry tyrone men should all do the right thing and join good tyrone clubs, Ardboe and Moortown...

It hadn't occurred to be before- but Diver is such an appropriate name for a Derry player.

312636 there would be a lot bigger holes in the derry defence if the ballinderry boys were playin derryman.niamh you seem to be in the know re derry camp what about the legendary one national league holding medal PB is he finallygoing to show up in a big game or will he wait for limerick in the qualifiers. derry have only a holding and pulling not a football chance on sunday love.

I can't believe all the neutrals predicting an easy win for Tyrone.

Tyrone/Derry is one of the fiercest rivalries in the country...This one is going down to the wire!

agree with you to a point here. i dont think itll be easy by any strech. i reckon tyrone will take it but by 1 or 2. it will be tight but i can see tyrone maybe pullin away in the last 5 minutes.

Derry might be missing 7 players majority of who who would almost certainly start. Keep knocking us down because there nothing better for a team to feed off than put downs and negative comments. Despite Derry missing a host of players they still possess an excellent defence; line out will probably be: 1. Gillis, 2. Mc Guckin, 3. Mc Cloy, 4.Lockhart, 5. Mc Kaigue, 6. B Mc Goldrick, 7. SL Mc Goldrick. That is quite a formidable defence wheter you agree of not. Juts been on the Tyrone page and see a certain 'DUNGANNON ABU' has already predicted that Tyrone will walk to an All Ireland. With all due respect, If Armagh had that little bit of finishing power they might have put Tyrone away the last day, you can be sure Derry won't make the same mistake.

With all the pretend rivalries in the Dubs and Meath and Armagh and Tyrone etc that has been p[layed out this year, this is the fiercest rivalry at the lot, and I wouldn't write either team off just yet.

Tyrone v Derry it's going to be close.Tyrone have more experienced players but that's how you get experience playing big games like these.Tyrone have some excellent footballers but also have ordinary county players as well like all teams. It's going to be about who of the more established boys steps up on Sunday.Despite what Cassidy says I don't think it's going to be a free flowing affair. It's more likely to be a tense affair like most matches between the 2.Derry has to be able to cope with the possesion and runnning from the Tyrone half backs. From a Derry point of view that would be my concern. You'll see a lot of broken ball in the middle very crowded.Tyrone haven't got a great midfield so swamp this area, which is the right tactic.they are excellent at picking up broken ball.If Derry can get near equality in this area then they stand a really good chance. If not forget about it.No point naming absent players it's up to the 2 teams that line out when the ball's thrown in.Hold on, just putting the red and white tinted specs on Derry by 2.

This is the kind of game we have been prone to losing in the years after winning an all ireland, 2004 it was donegal and mayo, 2006 it was derry and laois, all those games were lost when we were being tipped as red hot favourites!

On this occasion i dont think it will happen, but its gonna be pretty tight, if derry manage to drag us down to a dogfight then i think we could be in trouble, if we're lowered to that we wont win, they done it in 2006 and i predict them to do it again on sunday!

Casement has been a happy hunting ground for Tyrone teams (all levels) against Derry in recent times and i'm hoping sunday is no different! I hope we can play our normal running game on sunday, if our half back line can get at them i fancy us to win.
I hope mickey plays Hughes and mc Ginley in the middle and if were in trouble at any stage, move big Sean out and leave mulligan and SON inside!
One way of keeping Paddy Bradley quiet is to stop the flow of decent ball into him, or as we prefer to do, just stick Ricey on him, Its well known Bradley does not like ricey marking him and has never had a good game against him! It will mean ricey will have to sacrafice his attacking play but its a small sacrafice to pay!
Play Joey sittin in front of eoin and paddy bradley and we should have no probs.

Please Mickey do not leave Conor Gormley to do the man marking on either of these because it will not work!

Can see it being tight but the champs winning by 2 as long as were not indisiplined

Totally agree with these posts the game will be tighter than people are making out but hopefully If we perform to the levels we have shown before Tyrone should come through. Whoever goes into the qualifiers will be fancied to go a long way and will pose a threat to all teams, they should be interesting with a lot of good teams knocked out of their provincial championships.

Niamh the delusions of grandeur you have about the Derry intercounty football team really are quite shocking. Derry were underdogs for this game and now with the injuries and massive indiscipline problems that have led to suspensions they are massive underdogs. If they beat Tyrone it will be as big a shock as what happened at the weekend there over in Donegal. We Tyrone people have every right to feel confident ahead of this match as on paper we are playing inferior opposition. Kerrymen would be confident ahead of a game with Clare and this is a similar sort of thing here. Stop being histerical, parochial and let your head rule your heart.
Derry will get beat and the only man that even has a chance of an Ulster Final losers medal is Da Bradley.
By the way I doubt the players are on this, they probably have more improtant things to do like training.

niamh getting your excuses in early re the magnificent 7. the only derry defender of note is mcguckian the rest are average to the say the least. mccloy has lost pace big time o kane has done nothing since the minors. barry mcgoldrick is lightweight and too slow to mark cavnagh. dooher will destroy mckaigue and the other mcgoldrick will run up the field all day to avoid defending. gillis is your weakest link does not look like a keeper in any shape or form. his kickouts are very ropey especially into the wind. tyrone will play 5 along their half backline probably ricey justin joe mcmahon jordan and davy harte. all 5 can attack with pace and that will be the end of derry. the only hope derry have is the ref turns a blind eye to the dirt of which there will be plenty, and hope that the legendary PB can get more than two scores from play. if derry are to prevail he will have to score 1-8.

I think Derry might win this one, still think Tyrone and Kerry will be there or there abouts come the business end of the championship though.

thats a very small minded and dismissive statement there niamh. your posts have taken a turn for the worse since that monaghan game. maybe its tommy mcguigans fault. i just dont know. do u still need to persist with the excuses before a ball has been kicked?

Fair enough CheFinny, that's your opinion, and I don't mean the players are on here, I meant that DC will be paying head to every media outlet and using it as motivation. I just gave my opinion, like it or not. Well see who's right come Sunday, there is nothing to say you won't end up with egg on you face.

Armagh have 2 top class forwards (Clarke & McDonnell), whereas Derry have 1 (Paddy Bradley). Aside from those, there isn't another proven scorer at championship level between them.

I think Gormley can sometimes get caught for pace against the likes of bradley!

I can almost guarantee Tyrone would rather lose to Kerry by 10 than Derry by one. It is as bitter as you can get, don't the posts of the Tyrone fans on this thread indicate that?
