Derry v Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No excuses we were pure crap, I'm not not cross or even disappointed by the result, probably lucky to get off so lightly, but disgusted at the lack of belief the team showed in the Jersey, Joe Diver oozed passion, the rest didn't even want to know. Tyrone aren't all Ireland champions for nothing, they really are a classy outfit, some fine points kicked by Tommy Mc Guigan. Back to the drawing board for us. Well done to Tyrone and I do mean that, I think it's between yourselves and Cork.

Derry were shown up by a vastly superior Tyrone team. We just didnt have the players to play the type of game we wanted play, and then resorted to kicking the ball down gormleys throat at every oportunity.

Some of the younger players seemed to be over awed by the whole situation.

Very dissapointed, so demoralising, thats 5 years in a row we've been beat in the semi.

All the best to Tyrone.

As for the backdoor not to excited about that at the minute, but, you never know.

This is the thing about sport, there is alot more dissappointing days than happy ones, but when the good ones come ill be there.

Tyrone are just a vastly superior team to Derry, as they are to the rest of Ulster. I had no doubt Tyrone would win, but didn't think there'd be that much in it. Derry's missing players would have helped of course, but you always feel with Tyrone they can step it up whenever they want, they were just going through the motions there today, and several key players didn't figure at all. The way it looks now they'll be getting to the quater-finals without having to play like they can, without having to step up the pace. I just wonder if this will go against them. Like what if they meet a battle-hardened Kerry(who will bounce back) with alot of match-practice behind them? That would be interesting and it's the only thing I can think of that could trip them up, but I'd imagine Mickey will have them well prepared.

always nice to beat the oul enemy.tyrone played within themselves and still won handy enough.obviously derry were short a few quality players today but their lack of passion surprised me.diver and okane played rightly but i couldnt believe how derry seemed to resign themselves to defeat.tyrone were wasteful in front of goal and should have won by more but i suppose an 8 point win will do well.

Iam very dissapointed. Not because we lost. But because we lost miserably. Derry just didnt show for the second half and when Mc Gukian was sent of all droped their heads except for Diver and o Kane. Tyrone are light years ahead of the rest of Ulster. Only Cork or possibly a rejuvenated Kerry will stop them.

Well done Tyrone! Routine win, but the ref ruined the game for me with a very inconsistent performance as usual. I believe Derry when they get their players back will go further in the championship. It is amazing what the loss of 1-2 vital players can do to a teams performance.

I told everyone that Derry aren't very good and i was proved right. We won that game at bhalf pace against a team that tried - albeit failed - to beat us off the park.

Can you hear me Nadine Coyle? Can you hear me? Fergal Sharkey, Martin O'Neill, Eoghan Quigg, Joseph Brolly, Conor Mitchell your boys took a hell of a beating today. One hell of a beating.

Hahaha one love from the Loughshore.

Beerbaron, dont know if I should pray for you or call the men in the white coats for you. Tyrone are streets ahead of Antrim and Cavan, anything is possible but staying that either team will beat Tyrone is just so off the wall, its laughable.

cmx watch this space-in fairness i cant see either of us beating them but hopefully tyrone arrive overly confident and either ourselves or antrim play freakishly well-it is possible but extremely unlikely i know

Derry Positives:
* This team was missing 4 first team players and will improve when they return
* SON/Cavanagh/Mulligan were kept almost scoreless.
* Derry are in devlopment, this game will have brought them further and they will have learned lessons
* Derry are not beaten, they have just entered the championship proper.
* They have a good rest now before the 2nd round of the qualifiers.

Tyrone Positives:
* Red Sean O Neill
* A near fully fit squad except for big Joe who should be back near or adter the Ulster final.
* The form of McGuigan/Penrose in the absence of O'Neill/Cavanagh/Mulligan scores
* A championship game (final) when some experimentation can be used to tweak the squad

Unsung hero for Tyrone is John Devine. Rem he missed the final last year but he's better than ever. He reminds me of Benny Tierney in 02 when Armagh didn't concede and Benny didn't have any saves to make because the defence was so well-organised, which is why Benny didn't even get an All Star nomination. Devine has come on a lot and kept the defence focussed. There's a good and rare interview with him on the Ulster council website. He's very articulate and talks a lot of sense. www.ulstergaa.ie

I have to praise you on how humble you are in victory. I think it is a sign of a true sportsperson, well done.

But dont be too harsh, you did not point out how you were right and that you beat derry.
