Derry v Tyrone

The match will probably be in Casement. That will suit most supporters. They would hardly drag a Tyrone/Derry game to a Monaghan venue?

I hope its in Clones. Its a handy enough drive, plus there is no craic around casement at all.

I would prefer it in Clones as well, there is more atmosphere and although it takes an age to get out of clones that is part of the package. Plan to leave an hour or so after the game by having a late lunch/early dinner or a picnic and its a smooth drive home. The only thing that casement has is a shorter drive for derry supporters but 2/3rds of the suporters will be from Tyrone so on that basis Casement is not a foregone conclusion.

"COME ON TYRONE"!!!!!!!

I dont know what it is that you South Derry people like about Casement but its a middlin' venue whereas Clones is a brilliant venue, besides in Casement where are you gonna eat the Sandwichs outta the boot? They will b demanding prtection money if your there to long. (Joke! Antrim Fellas Joke!) Seriously though I think that Clonoes is a way better venue, but no doubt all the South Derry pundits will be out in force in the Irish News talking about how Belfast needs this match to heighten the awareness of GAA in the city. Which is of course balderdash, as Paddy Heany and co just want a handy wee jaunt down the M2.

I reccomended Clones becasue the atmosphere is good and relaxed, people are friendly and the banter is good, plus the Tyrone Fleadh is on in Dromore that weekend so after the match you can catch the tail end of the Fleadh on the way home.
Now what an opportunity for the GAA to promote Irish culture: Ulster semi final in Clones followed by an evening of the finest quality traditional music in the open air, hell you could even get a few musicians down from Derry to partake in a
"Post match evening Fleadh Finale Spectualar"

The Sage i agree with you. We will beat derry easy and if suspensions are handed out for the derry and monaghan game i can see this happening. When you have player like brian dooher on the bench it shows the depth and quality of the squad and also when your full back can go play half back just before the throw shows the willingness of the players on the tyrone team to do what it takes to win. Tyrone for ulster and hopefully sam.

After the borefest's this weekend, Derry and Tyrone will show the rest of the country what true rivalry is.

will derry take tyrone on at football or a dragging affair? that is the qxn. hopefully for the neutrals the former. derry are no better than last year as their league form has shown. they still havent dealt with their lack of pace in their full back line or their physically weak center half back. theirmidfield is adequate and i actually think doherty being out, will benefit derry as he is too negative. however they really have problems up front, against tyrone you need three half forwards who can score from distance, barring kielt,i couldnt name you a derry half forward that can score. derry will revert to type and kick tonnes of ball into the bradleys who really need a big man at the edge of the square if they are to be effective. derry dont have the quality needed to beat tyrone, but in a scrap like the monaghan game they have a sluggers chance, hopefully tyrone have learned from 06. this is a career defining game for paddy bradley, has he got what it takes at the highest level to perform, as his championship record would suggest he is a flat track bully of smaller fry only.

I think it will be a proper game of football and Derry won't be dragged into the pully draggy stuff that Monaghan have played against them for the past 3 years. On paper and from what championship football we have seen from both so far you would have to say Tyrone by 5 points. But these games are never easy to call on the day. What is the prize for the winner ? what is the motivation to win ? You win and you're through to an Ulster final, probably against Donegal. Local bragging rights. Avoidance of potential qualifiers such as Kerry etc. Derry need The Doc in midfield therefore for the remainder of the championship and must win this game. Who's hungrier for an Ulster title ? Will Ricey get sent off ? Who can mark Sean Cavanagh in the Derry defence ? Are the Derry half forward line too powder puff to stop the counter attacking Tyrone defence ? will tyrone kick as many wides as they did against armagh ?

I expect Tyrone to win with a bit to spare.

Derry may attempt to replicate the intimidation and off the ball tactics (one red and 7 yellows in their last match against 4 yellows for the opposition), however they won't get away with this as easily away from Celtic Park, and shouldn't manage to bring Tyrone down to their level.

If Tyrone can motivate themselves against what is a very average team (especially now without the genuinely talented young Kielt) they should win by five or six.

Let's all hope for the sake of football, that they do.

PearseBro are you making wine with those sour grapes?

Take a little look back at the game, of the two teams Derry were the one who showed any glimmer of skill. 3 unanswered points in the last 10 minutes showed the difference in the teams. Monaghan unless they get a good draw will certainly be out next round, with no Freeman who will score?

Anyway, isn't there a qualifiers thread you could be posting in?

Without young Kielt you will be relying on the Bradley boys to score. Good luck with that !

So here we have it, 6 days away. There has been a lot of reported disruptions in the Derry camp, well from what I hear things are progressing fine.Looking forward to this game.

Also, can I please ask Derry/Monaghan incidents are left out of this thread this is about Derry and Tyrone there are enough Derry/Monaghan threads about.
