he's saying that he's a bottler especially for his country. where was the "best player in the world" in the last few major tournaments when his country needed something to happen. got scared again. did you see him last night dive out of the way when two others went for a header in the middle of the filed

Messi is the best says who? You? And what are you basing this on? Running rings around the rubbish teams in spain? Chelsea werent long putting the brakes on him with bosingwa playing out of position. He was double teamed on some occasions but ronaldo gets the same treatment. Didnt see him beating them from a standing position, missionary position or any other position. What is so wrong with beating some1 with a step over? It works doesnt it? The worst thing about that is Messi uses them also, you must have missed that la liga when you were at the teenage disco.
Ronaldo loses the ball all the time too? What games are you watching? And as for the free-kicks, maybe messi isnt taking them because he's no good at them, never heard of a manager instructing the second best player to take them...
Ronaldo got the player of the year award, why didnt messi get it? After all its knowledgeable football managers who vote for it. Media fooled them too i suppose. And who are these evil media geniuses? Dunphy? Giles? Curtis? Like most in the media, they hate ronaldo.
Messi is a brilliant player but so is ronaldo, take off the blinkers...

Ronaldo has no fear in him when going for headers and won quite a few last night. He obviously got a shout from his team-mate to leave it but you couldn't be expected to understand that. You hate Ronaldo and your cynical attitude turns everything about Roanldo into a self-fullfilling prophecy. Like I say there is no basis to support the begrudgery against Ronaldo and you are embarrassing yourself with your one-eyed aggressive ranting against Ronaldo. He has continually proved you wrong and you continue to spout irrelevant nonsense as excuses. You should lighten up a bit and instead of spitting fire at the tv when Utd are playing just sit back and enjoy like you do when watching Barcelona cos ultimately its you thats losing out. I love watching Utd and Ronaldo and I love watching Barca and Messi and I dont need to delude myself of the reality that Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world playing for the best team in the world.

have you ever actually watched football? it took an english press campaign to prevent him getting player of the tournament at the last world cup and his team didnt even win. are you eamon dunphy by any chance because if worried if two people living on our island have the same stubborn views how many more are there? fact speak for themselves and on this site we have people who accept messi and ronaldo are amazing and back up arguements for ronaldo bebing better based in his record over the last few years and people like you who just keep repeating 'he's rubbish' and hope its true!
apply the same judgement to both, how have argentina done recently? messi must be useless too then!

argentina should have won the world cup only for the manager and messi was unfit going to the last world cup. he's only 21 remeber at 18 at the world cup. where was ronaldo when at the same age.

breffini. he got scared. afraid he might have broke a nail. his reaction told everything. his 2 arms were covering his head.

messi will win player of the year award this year and probably for the next 2 or 3 years also. not that it means anything as the award is pathetic. i dont remeber ronaldo ever been singled out and teamed up on and id love to see ronaldo play against chelsea with 11 men behind the ball. except the only thing is you wouldnt see him.

i never said theres anything wrong with a step over, its just ronaldo dosnt have to ability to beat the "second best player" in the world from a standing position the way messi made a show of him last year and also against scholes.

id say ronaldo got the ball taken of him about 10 times yesterday. now watch messi tonight. he never loses it once. the balls glued at his feet.

or maybe he dosnt take free kicks as there are other better dead ball players on the team who would also take them at united ahead of ronaldo if they were there.

your in denial. just admit messi is the best player in the world.

anyway barca are gonna thrast chelsea tonight

Is this directed at me? If it is, then I'm afraid that it is you in denial, cos if you calmed your childish rage down you'd realise that I have stated a number of times that I think Messi is the best player in the world. I'm just not compelled with bitterness to criticise any other player who can make a claim to be better than him. Is it that hard for you to comprehend that Messi and Ronaldo are two of the greatest players in the world. They way you go on you'd think we were comparing Maradona to Kevin Kilbane.

Go on. admit it - Ronaldo, the current world player of the year, european golden boot, in possesion of a premiership, champions league and world club cup winners medal is a world class player.

Go on, man up and admit it or will you continue to swim with the egyptian fish?

So 32_4_1, you're saying Ronaldo is a coward in the air and can't header the ball? Are you kidding me? The man's one of the best headers of a ball about! I'd say you probably think Messi is better at that aswell...

FYI Ronaldo was on the team of the tournament for Euro 2004, scoring in the semi-final and playing in the final.

No i think messi is rubbish, he cant defend, no good in the air, all he can do is beat fellas from a 'standing position', he lost the ball er... 26 times during the week when none of ye were watching... i now refuse to listen to reason or back up my argument with any examples...

Sound familiar?

Whats this standing position lark? As if that is the holy grail of all footballers! He's light and quick, so he is quicker off the mark, hardly rocket science...

As speedy said, people like him because he seems a more likeable person.

As for argintina, bolivia beat them by 5 or 6 recently, those pesky media must be to blame

Exactly MMM, sure he nearly knocked himself out scoring that vital header against Roma last year. Pure drivel this lad 32_4_1 is coming out with! Ronaldo must have stolen his bun when he was young lad.

this sums him up. he's a great and world class goal scorer, and good player. messi is a world class player. ronaldos general play is not near the standard of someone like kaka, roy keane, zidane. inzagi, raul they were all amazing goal scorers but there all round game and consistency wasnt good. just like ronaldo. his attitude in disgraceful and he's not a player that would turn a team around like ronaldinho did when he went to barca and they were 13th in the league, when crjuiff went to ajax, when maradonna went to napoli, when riquelme went to villareal. they are the truely great players. the team will struggle when they go unless you've unlimited money. ronaldo leaves it wont make much of a difference. and thats just the way it is

Without ronaldo, utd wouldnt be in the CL final or be top of the league, look at even the recent goals he scored. Quarter final, no1 else on the planet would have scored that goal. Rocket free kick and another stunning finish in the semi final. The one against villa, again not many would have shot and scored from that position, etc etc. He doesnt contribute from open play? He regularly scores screamers from positions where others wouldnt dream of shooting, so effectively, he contributes what no1 else could, how much more contribution do you want?

P.S. How do you like this one?

Delighted with the result tonight. Disgusted by the actions of players such as John Terry, Michael Ballack and especially Drogba. Grow up. If they hadnt have put on Belletti for Drogba, but instead put on an attacking player, then they may have wrapped it up. The negativity was disgaceful. The Barcelona defence was laughable. Dani Alves continually gave the ball away. Over hitting crosses, wasting free kicks. He is suspended along with Abidal for the final. I know that Puyol will be returning but, if they put in a defensive perofrmance like that in the final, United will take them to town. But fair play to them for not giving in tonight. And I hope UEFA come down hard on them Chelsea boys for their behaviour towards the referee tonight. They have to be put in their place. Done the same to your Scandinavian ref a few years back. Death threats too. Cant keep getting away with it.

but he's a striker. thats what he's meant to do. get goals. and torres does it too. gets goals from nothing. so does raul, van nistelrroy, huntelaar. but it dosnt mean they deserve the honour of best player in the world. they would have beaten arsenal and porto anyway. i forgot when henrys opinion became a defining opinion. i remember maradonna saying aimar was the only player he would pay to watch. does the mean aimars the best player in the world. no. at messi's age (21) ronaldo made 33 prem appearences with 9 goals and he's a striker. messi now at 21 has made 30 la liga appearances with 23 goals and is a midfielder. says it all really

messi is undoubtably the best player in the world by a mile and he now is also backing it up with the goals and he's only 21. and he's a winger and is never in the box either.

ill repeat ronaldo is a world class striker but messi is a world class player. theres a difference

Serious analysis.

Ronaldo, wonderful header, good at free kicks, scores goals, but cannot beat a player except by using pace into a 15 yard space. You don't get 15 yard spaces against good teams, which is why he labours at international level.

Messi: Amazing technical skills, beats players with ease, scores, but also sets up a lot of goals.

Kaka: Wonderful player, but a mid fielder who has great technical skill, and scores. Made United look like dustbins a few years ago.

Robinho. Great technical skill and vision, and scores.

Messi, Kaka and Robinho have good international records.

So there you have it. If you watch closely tonight Messi never lost a ball, surrounded by three players all the time. He then releases the pass. Now against English teams the three tackling him are hard working forwards and mid fielders, so when he releases thye pass, the like of United and Chelsea still have 6 men behind the ball.

In Spain defenders are tackling him, so when he releases the pass, the receiver is usually clean through.

Tonight showed something. This power, negative tactics can bite you on the rectum.

Sure Porto nearly got a late one against United and that would have been them gone as well.

Barcelona maybe could have won the first game 4-1 but for dreadful refereeing, and the same tonight in reverse order.

I remember thinking at one stage wouldn't it be poetic justice if Barcelona scored in "injury" time as all the "injuries" were to Drogba.

Except for the fact that he doesn't labour at international level. You keep trotting out this lie for some reason. International football is a lower level to the latter stages of the champions league and Ronaldo excels there. Just accept it man? Is it a personal thing?
