while as already said you could argue nearly every position on the field, i think the CHF spot is the big one, if played right he can dominate any match, either by running into the holes between the wing back and wing forward positions to collect passes out of defence leaving a huge hole through the middle of any defence, or collecting breaks from mid-field, he needs intellegence more than anyone eles on the field,

without a srong CHF you are going nowhere at all............

solo County: Kilkenny Posts: 91 251789 Obviously Liam being from the land of the sliotar I haven't a clue about football positions but I believe in hurling all great teams are built on the half back line. Clare - Daly, McMahon & Doyle, Galway - Keady, Finnerty & McInerney, Kilkenny - Walsh, Hogan, Delaney, Wexford - Guiney, Dunne & O'Gorman, Tipp - Bonner, Ryan & Kennedy, Limerick - Clarke, Carey & Foley, Offaly - Whelehan, Rigney & Martin and Cork (as much as it kills me) Gardiner, Curran & O'Hailpin. I could go on but I think these examples show how important the whole line is and in my opinion definitely the most important line on the pitch I agree. And it has always been so.

definitely midfield.as someone else already stated games can be either won or lost at midfield.

Every half back line mentioned there is excellent. Of course when looking at this my first reaction was to see what Limerick half back line was listed, but the half back line that caught the eye was the Offaly half back line. The skill level both those wing backs had was amazing and when you had the option of moving Whelehan upfield it was an added bonus. There is not a half back line listed there that you could say was weak as a unit. Well done solo. My first thought about position in hurling was to think the full forward line is the most important but without a half back line the forwards will probably get nothing.

Full forward line. any team can get as fit as they like and run and hold onto the ball all day.
but if they are without a good fullward or corner forward they will be like the wolf trying to blow down the house of bricks

T0 win an All Ireland every position is important. Having a good centre half back or a good midfield on there own will win you nothing

Now they used to say that you could win an all Ireland with bad defenders and good forwards, but couldn't with good defenders and bad forwards.
