FFS folks we are all gaels on this site, the amount of stereotypical slagging, no not slagging abuse, has gone too far. The argument is whether Casement is the better ground to be developed, can we not please debate this instead of personal insults. This whole culchie/ westie nonsense has gone too far. sean og (Armagh) - Posts: 1072 - 31/03/2009 19:19:26 244820 Link 0 |

Jeez, Sean Og they must have been supersize burgers at that rate of going. You mentioned that you dont ever remember anyone being robbed in casement, well funny I do recall the entire match takings being stole during a championship game in the late 80's. Might have been Tyrone V Down, not sure. Anyway the last robbery relating to casement and the match takings took place when a Tyrone official was robbed in Dungannon Co Tyrone with the match takings, so where is safe I ask the question. But like you said I dont remember any individual getting robbed or having their property vandalised in or around casement. Dublin/Croke not only has the potential for car theft/pick pocketing but you also have the uniformed daylight clamper robbers to contend with never mind risking your car being washed away in a flash flood! mugsys_barber (Tyrone) - Posts: 2160 - 31/03/2009 21:46:27 244923 Link 0 |

Yeah can remember that robbery at Casement now Mugsy, but as we both stated dont recall hearing any personal stories of theft. sean og (Armagh) - Posts: 1072 - 31/03/2009 22:41:14 244987 Link 0 |

patrique "One thing I must point oput. The trouble in the Holyland is CONSTANT" This is very much true. I have a brother living in the Holylands and he says St Paddys Day was pretty similar to what goes on any other night( bar the riots) Wheeley bins set on fire, ******* on the street coming home from nightclub. Just wrecking the place in general. Its an everyday thing in the Holylands. So I dont think you should relate this (violence/thuggery) to Casement park. The "robbery" at Casement in the 1980s was more of a donation. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 01/04/2009 00:44:19 245087 Link 0 |
Sorry but have to disagree with you about personal lose at casement the McKenna cup final a couple of years ago Tyrone v Monaghan after the match a Castlederg woman was approaching her car to her amazement a couple of wee hoodies were inside and trying to drive off with her car even with the intervention of a couple of burly men couldn't prevent the motor being taken, The Women had 4 children with her that day and was left to spend the rest of the day reporting the incident to the PSNI we did offer her and the kids a lift as far as Dungannon on our bus but it was taken ages for her to be able to make a statement. Terrible end to the day for that lady. This would never happen in Clones. But the Sports Minster will not give money to Clones so looks like we will be stuck with Casement! But I would never take my car there in the words of Big Ian NEVER!NEVER!NEVER! fortyfive (Tyrone) - Posts: 5929 - 01/04/2009 03:08:21 245101 Link 0 |
The thing that annoys me about Casement Park is the delay in getting off the motorway. You get to within 5 miles of Casement on C/ship days and spend an hour or more sitting in your car in a line of traffic. Clones wins hands down because of the craic in the pubs beforehand. The bit of friendly banter adds to the day win or lose !! Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 01/04/2009 10:04:31 245161 Link 0 |

fortyfive you must spend your whole life wrapped in cotton wool. See if you were to spend your whole life not doing things because of what MIGHT happen you would NEVER do anything. You wouldn't drive or walk on a country lane, that would be well too dangerous. certainly would play sport incase you dropped dead. 'Oh I might get my car nicked in West Belfast I am never going' how sad are you? I tell you one thing you are missing out on visiting a great place because the atmosphere round our second city is fantastic right now. Personally I love a big day out in Croke because you get to take in a bit of Dublin with all its facilities. Belfast COULD in time replicate that to an extent Clones couldn't. Fella from Tipperary you don't need to hope that any developments get the fellas from Belfast playing the GAA those that want to will and always have. The GAA is thriving in the city google St Galls son. At the end of the day it is a city and that foirin sport will always be a pull just as it is in Dublin I don't want converts I want Gaels. At the end of the Day the Ulster Board know better than us so I will wait on their decision. CheFinny (UK) - Posts: 1358 - 01/04/2009 10:13:15 245167 Link 0 |
Ive been to casement countless times over the years and parked everywhere from andytown rd, shawsrd, kennedy centre, glen rd without ever having an issue with safety or ever witnesssing any car crime. The bars Ive been in are always good craic and the locals very welcoming - its patently obvious that many west of the bann are letting their prejudices about belfast cloud their judgement stranmillis29 (Antrim) - Posts: 788 - 01/04/2009 10:53:57 245202 Link 0 |
