Division 2

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Any think we should have a thread for each of the divisions? All fixture/results and discussions ect. should go in here.

so after playing winter league games who is looking good/poor?
who is favs for promotion/relagation? Is it just 1 automatically up and down?

and most importantly does anyone know when the league is starting?

Probably a good idea Beko - as long as the discussions are objective - not players talking them selves up ,in an effort to get attention, or based on peronal bias - remember last year and the guy who kept running down a club who went on to win the championship.

On your point on who did well bad in subsiderary leagues - it seldom counts for anything as many clubs are missing several players eg Pats.

My own prediction is :

Senior League & Championship Blues

Intermediate League - o'connels
Championship O'Connels or Mals

Junior League - fechins
Junior Championship - Mochtas or Dunleer

I think leagues are starting 2nd week in April

Blueboy i'll hazard a guess looking at previous posts (and the clue being in the name!!) that your a Blues man. So forgive me if i'm wrong but have your predictions for intermediate championship and div 2 got anything to do with the o'connells putting up a good show against the blues in the quarter finals of the winter league? If so its a wee bit contradictory seeing as you earlier discounted the relevance of the winter leagues in determining the outcome of the rest of the season. My own opinion is that any team that is flying now has peaked too early and will be a major let down for the rest of the season. look at Roche Emmets last year. This of course is excluding the super fit/motivated teams ie. Blues, Mattock, Cooley and Pats who will push on continuously throughout the season. Any thoughts on this theory?

You make a good point Peterpan. In my own humble opinion I dont see any of the clubs in Louth posing a serious challenge to the Blues this year. The team is at its peak and with the addition of andy mcdonnell and players breaking through like lorcan mcquillan and young judge tand donavan, they will be very hard to stop. I belive that collon are about to go into decline with some of thie mainstays have given of their best and likewise the Pats. That is purely my personal opinion.

I belive that o' Connels have done remarkably well without the services of a county senior and minor player and that flanagan will be an enormous help to them and thatthey appear to have the right motivation this year. Again - my humble opinion. I believe that the mals have the grit and experience to win cruical championship games and that they will have a say in where the championship goes. i think the rats have had their chances and the jury is out on na piarasaigh.

Any other views ?

I am trying to just keep the discussion here to division 2 or intermediete championship to see how the thread gets on.

I agree that the o connels will be hard to beat this year and flanagan looks a great addition they also got mc geogh from the clogher who if they get fit will be a good addition.

I disagree about the mals i think they are a very poor team with no football in them at all. The only way they will have a say is if the games are played in october/november on bog pitchs because if it is on a good summers day on decent pitches they wont stand a chance.

anyone know what the marys are like this year? are they expecting to go straight back up from divsion 2?

any of the finnbars, gerildines, mcdermotts or mochtas could go down. will all depend on games against eachother, I havent a clue which of these will do the best to be honest.

Gers will be just fine this year. Youngsters will do well this year if not next year. Said here first Gers to surprise, starting with a win v mc dermotts this sunday.

Finnbars V Roche: Roche should have enough assuming they arent too overconfident
Na piarsaigh V moctas: NaPs
Gerildines V mcdermotts: Gers
o connels V o rats: close but o'connells on basis of rats been poor in league in last couple of yrs
marys V Dreadnots: Marys. this will tell a lot bout d marys but i think clogher will miss pepe & pop mor than d marys will miss carroll
clans V plunkets: plunketts decent early season form to just shade it

only results i can find are:
gerildines 1-12 1-09 mcdermots
o connels 3-17 0-06 o raths
marys 2-09 3-11 dreadnots
clans 0-09 2-09 plunkets

no big shocks there apart from maybe the o connels winning by such a big margin the raths must be very poor.

Report is a fair enough one. Terrible conditions, Mochs goal took big deflection but was no more than they deserved. Very good battling performance. If they keep it up they will take points off others.

Clan Na Gael Roche Emmets - Clans
Oliver Plunkets St Marys - OP's
Dreadnots O Connells - Best Game of pick I'd say. I'll go for O'Cs
O Raghallaighs Geraldines - Rats
Sean McDermots Na Piarsaigh - NaP's

Clans V Roche - roche win for me the clans are a poor team in my opinion

plunkets V marys - very close one to call maybe a draw match but could go either way

Dreadnots V O connels - the O connels for me they are flying at the minute

O raths V gerildines - o raths are really struggling at the min so gers for me

seans V na piarsaigh - na piarsaigh should be too strong

mochtas V finnbarrs - mochtas got good result last week so go with them
