Instead of looking and discussing the past, let's look to the future, 2009 is now history.
Leagues, championship and cup games for 2010 should be a priority in all our minds.
Over the next few weeks all clubs will be holding their AGM, this is every club members chance to have an influence in what is the format for 2010.
Put your ideas down on paper, let your club know that at least you are alive and have an interest.
I had a couple of hours over Christmas and put the following forward.
Before Patrick starts quoting Rules & Bye Laws, this is just a discussion proposal where nothing is set in stone. Please feel free to be critical and offer your ideas on what is needed to progress the current state of games.

I propose that:

Each club has at least one league game every week, either Div. 1 or 2.
Each team has at least one league game every two weeks.

Division 1 will contain eight teams.

At the end of group games stage the four teams with the lowest points, will form reserve division 1 and play semi-final and final, for reserve cup (ideally Mulligan cup which is an intermediate competition).

The two teams with lowest points play a relegation final, with loser dropping to division 2 for following year.

Division two will have 12 teams.

At the end of group games stage the eight teams with the lowest points, will form reserve division 2 and play quarter, semi-final and final, for reserve cup.

The team topping the table is promoted to division for following year.

This two week cycle allows fixture committee the flexibility to take the following into account:

1. County teams training and games in both football and hurling.
2. To alternate fixtures where dual players are involved.
3. To run off cup games at the same time, as every second week is free.
4. To attempt to give every player interested a game every week.
5. To allow players a period where they can organize summer holidays.
I know Sean McDermotts had a motion passed this year at convention requesting
that no time be allowed for holidays, but if games are fixed as suggested we will
automatically have a period in July/August. For a short break.
6. That all games league, championship and cup are finalised by mid October.
7. That we run a two division league.
8. That senior, intermediate and junior grades are retained for championships.
Fixture committee to grade all teams

I am suggesting that:

The teams in both leagues are based on the results of the current three league format, also the three teams being promoted are based on results over the last year or so i.e.

No.1 St Barnabas won intermediate league.
No.2 St Brendans losing finalist 2009
No.3 St Marys 2008 intermediate champions

There is also another option, if one of the teams suggested object to being promoted, then it would be possible for John Mitchells to enter A and B teams.
As it is being suggested there is little difference between their senior and intermediate teams.
Erin Go Bragh who attempt to field three teams or any other club who feel they have players to compete.
I have seen this option working well on a number of occasions.
From experience I believe you need eight teams at least in Division 1.

RULES

1. All games must be played before next fixture is due in both divisions.

2. If a game cannot go ahead for some reason, re-fixture must be agreed before the game is called off

3. In the event of this not happening, onus is on the team calling off game to agree re-fixture before next game or they lose the points.

4. First named team in fixture to contact appointed referee twenty four hours before game.

5. Referee if unable to officiate, to make alternative arrangements with fixture secretary for replacement.

6. Team unable to fulfill fixture with an away club, to notify traveling club at least four hours before fixed starting time of game.

7. Failure to notify: Where team travels and no game takes place.
Fine of 50 pounds for first offence and thereafter 100 pounds

8. All fines to be collected before clubs can register for following year.

Football championships

Teams to be graded this year by grading committee.

A relegation competition for senior and intermediate where all teams not making it to the final are involved in a play off.

Eventual loser dropping a grade for following year.

TEAM WITH MAXIUM POINTS ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Four teams finishing with lowest points play for reserve league cup (draw knockout
Two teams with lowest points play relegation final, loser is relegated.

Thirty three games were played out of a possible forty, from Warwickshire's web site it would appear that only Four Masters played all their games. Casements,Mitchells and Erin Go Bragh conceding two each and Mac's 1.

There are two panels side by side in 5 groups round 1 round 2 then underneath 3&4 down to round 11

Millbrook,

If you can persuade everyone to agree to this, good luck to you.

An all county league set up was floated a few years ago, but ignored.

I would suggest you start lobbying the people that matter immediately.

milbrook....like the looks of it, would certainly make for more competitive games. I really like the suggestion of fining clubs that fail to field/fail to notify the opposition at reasonable notice that they can't field.

Patrick, why so negative all the time ???
Are you one of these men that sits on the county board who doesn`t like change ???
Obviously alot of thought has gone into this by Millbrook, and fair play to him. What is it that you disagree with ????
No harm in this format being used for the coming season, and see how it works out. It surely has to be better than the current situation in the county, which is shambolic to say the least.

Moonshine, I don't know if he really is being that negative, perhaps just sceptical? After all, he does say that the suggestion should be put forward to the 'people that matter' as soon as possible.

james o`hara & patrick, who are the people that matter ???
In my opinion it would be the lads that are out there playing the football, and their clubs.
In reality as we all know its the people on the county board that matter, they dont want to entertain new ideas.
Millbrook has put together a proposal for them to look & make changes that can allow the county to go forward,or do they just want to continue as they are and be stuck in a rut.

this is not a spelling competition,

do you have any other suggestions or comments?

There may be mistakes which, I am sure will be pointed out. I have done this on a simple XL file.

If anyopne wants a copy to discuss / improve or use for demonstration at your own AGM, you can email me at: [email protected]

Well done Millbrook for coming up with a realistic solution for the forthcoming season. I see your the only one up to now with any suggestions.

I like your suggetions Millbrook. As far as i am aware there is a County Board meeting on the 11th. Prior to that the CCC are meeting to discuss possibilities for the coming season which will then be put to the floor. Why not get in touch with some members of the CCC with your proposal. It ,may need tweaking though as FM are looking to start a junior team this year.

As i said nothing is set in stone.

It's easy in Div 2 to add another team, it just means each team will have one more game.
I intend to print it off tomorrow and post to all club secretaries, also county sec. If anyone would like it emailed my address was included earlier
See if it can be developed further, as a good master fixture plan will need an input from all clubs.

Che the AGM is at 2pm 31st Jan at the club well that is if we still have it, what position are you running for me n the hardcore will back you. If you want we are meeting at 1pm to march down and get our soccer team back so EGB will at least win something this year.

Cheers Hardcore, i only wanted to know the date and time, there's no need for your bitter ramblings which follow. Come to the meeting and air your grievances in a proper manner.

You ask which position i am going for. I'm not too sure as there are many to choose from, but the one which interests me most is that of Chief Whip!

I might pop along to the EGB AGM alright, sounds like there's going to be some banter there with these two boys.......

Put a lid on it kids. But in all seriousness I hope EGB as a club get your act together and start pushing in the same direction for a change, it will be better for Warickshire and more importantly EGB in the future. I would say that one man cannot hold all the positions as currently happens.

I'm also well impressed with the solution put forward by millbrook, I think it sums up all the thoughts people are having and shows the way forward.
