patrique I must say you continue to intrigue me as you gradually reveal details of your curriculum vitae. Along with your other attributes I now realise you are a traditional Musician with the ability to chastise "about 40 unruly Neds" who disagree with your musical taste. No doubt when I am next in Belfast I will have little problem finding you, you will be the one wearing your underpants on the outside of your trousers. Hmmmm Superman or Walter Mitty? I wonder.

Superman, big Charlie. I just give the orders.

You could be watching the premiership, officially the most boring league with a record 33 0-0 draws to date this season, as everyone now plays 4-5-1 which in reality is 6-3-1.

233865 Corkcelt, I have a lot of time for Celtic myself. Have to say you take the whole thing far too seriously. Singing songs about Celtic in a Cork pub leaves me wondering have you nothing better to do. Sad. I'd sooner sing songs about a really great team like Portumna. By the way mock not the Horse. Top poster on this site.

Lay off the agreeing with me greengrass, when 2 or more people end up agreeing on something they know very little about it usually ends up being a religion or a political party, neither of which i have any truck with

Lads having a few pints with your mates and having a good singing session is a first class way to spend your evening particularly after watching Celtic beating the Huns. I realise I haven't drawn too much popular support, with Greengrass, dhorse, hipster, Duffy69 sorry 89 and patrique joining forces. But fighting against the odds never bothered me before and it won't now. If you are not part of it you won't appreciate what I'm talking about. Have a good life boys HAIL HAIL COME ON THE CELTS.

Another hilarious insightful post from the pretentious patrique. dhorse plenty of them son, how about "The Gunner Magee" the pride of The Longford Militia. I'll let you know when the next session is on and you can come and join us. I know the Skehard Road well. I assume you know that Flower Lodge is now Pairc Ui Rinn. Re the Cork Laois game. You are right about size, present Cork Team are the biggest squad of lads we've ever had. We also hammered Kerry in under 21's so there is a bit of hope. Laois producing good under age teams as well, saw ye beat Kildare and wasn't it only 2 years ago we beat ye in a final that we should never have won. Hopefully the talent will come through for ye.

Corkcelt why do celtic fans call rangers 'the huns'? Ive heard it a few times

I know British soldiers called German soldiers 'huns' in WWI, or surely its not a reference to Attila the Hun...

As far as I know the British calling the Germans Huns does go back to Attilla the Hun. I am not certain how the name got tagged on to Rangers. There are various theories . The most likely is in the pre-war period, the German National team was generally shunned. But they did get to play a game at Ibrox, Rangers home ground and apparently the Swastika was flown there officially at that game. In general terms the Celtic supporters do accuse Rangers supporters of being fascist so it could have also developed from there.

That was in 1969 and the term is as appropriate now as it was then.

In N.Ireland "hun" is a derogatory term for protestant. I explained all of this the other day but it was censored.

As I said at the start I am not sure where it started, equally I am not sure whether referring to Protestants in the North as Huns came from Rangers fans being called Huns or the other way around.

Monaghan Ultra,

In my youth before I became sensible I sang Celtic songs, and the word "huns" appeared in many, well before that game against Newcastle, or the brave battle the republican Rangers fans put up in Barcelona against Franco's fascist police.

there are many variations on the background to this. Interestingly the term is now a disciplinary offence with the staff at celtic park. Since the scottish parliament began to take sectarianism seriously both clubs had moved to erdaicate a lot of stuff. How serious they are is a debate for another day. However, Rangers have given life bans to 2,000 supporters since the government introduced legislation. Where it all gets confusing is when west of scotland sectarianism gets mixed in with Irish Republicanism.
