Abbey are looking very strong this year, good wins for Clonguish,Dromard and FMG also.Just curious but can anyone tell me the reason round 7 of the league was played this weekend and not round 5?

yeah abbey seem to be really flying it! suprised slashers didn't put up a better fight, were they missing anyone. Colmcille are having a disaster of a start, know were only 5 games in but at same time, very poor. Any other big wins? fr. manning gaels having great start

I believe the reason why rounds are juggled is that so called big guns ie (teams with county players) will not have to face each other with depleted squads. I cannot think of another reason behind it. I see that here are three rounds scheduled before the Leinster championship, ie next weekend, the following weekend and midweek after that.

I heard Stephen Lynch was man of the match for Granard again Ardagh at the weekend. Perhaps Glen should look at those with Div 1 experience for Wicklow Game. Lynch and Sheridan would not be bad additions. Scored 3-4 between them at weekend.

With 3 games before Wicklow game maybe the selectors should get out to some league games to see what else is out there. I wouldn't be relying on a squad got got you relegated to Div 4.

Who makes the decisions to change games?By right games should be played in the correct order.

agree with ya there badmansam. it would certainly be better looking at longford league matches than looking at basketball leagues anyway!

Agree with you there badmansam.Lynch was a class act at centre forward for Granard on Saturday.

Any reports from weekend games lads? Results are obvious from website but what about team selection, performances etc? Abbey much too strong for us and look a real threat this year. Clonguish also appear to be improving two big back to back wins against Dromard and Ballymahon. Great to see Granard and Mostrim kick start seasons with wins but what is wrong with the County champions. Surely it is time for them to get over the hag over and start playing again? FMG continue good form. Now looks like Clonguish and Abbey are the stand out favourites for both league and Championship honours this year.

lads lets not get carried away now, it was probaly stephen lynch's first game of competitive football in the last 4/5 years. he was a good player for longford at that time so he still has to prove himself in my book. heard it was a good win for granard, anyone else stand out in the game?

Clonguish's inability to win games without county players will cost them in the league, they'll be in the mix for the championship though.Abbey will top the league and will be in a county final come September.

Slashers were missing few regulars, most notably Dermot Brady, Steven Phillips and David Sheridan. Abbey were also missing couple as well though, so wouldn't be reading too much into match between 2 understrength teams. Yea Clonguish will be serious force alright at full strength. And whoever referred to Colmcille getting over their hangover, I wouldnt be expecting much, they wont do much with a forward line carryin no real threat. At this early stage, can say would be very suprised if Connolly cup doesnt go to Clonguish, Abbey or Dromard (who, are also putting a couple of good league performaces together now). If slashers hold onto Kelly for the summer and get Mark Smith back, they may also be in the shake-up but without them, they will struggle.

Slashers never tak league serious...got destroyed by Abbey in it last year despite beating them by 10 and 6 pojnts in respective championship games.

i would agree with seani it was lynchs first match in 4 years..... it just shows what a class act he is that he can go out and play so well in his first match back....
i would leave him for this year let him play his football with his club and then draft him back in 2 the county team for next year......
but i would defo have big nialler back in full forward,,

In my opinion, Slashers are littered with cocky players who have no real love for the game, It's no wonder they can't win a Connolly cup. Abbeylara are complete opposite. Heads down, they have won a few great chamionships in previous years and know how its done. Now they have players of calibre of 2 colm smiths, battrim, mahon and 2 crawfords to add to some serious experience and a rejuvinated nialler. Dunno how the windies keep winning, they have a couple of shocking average players on team, yet are unbeaten. Credit where it's due.

i think drumlish have been lucky with their draw in that they have played all the teams that are poorer than themselves. that will change when they face abbey. that said i think they are capable of springing a surprise against any big team but dont think they are consistent enough to do any damage come championship.
khfaelnikov you listed some very average abbey players right there

Dont agree Drumlish can be written off for championship because similar to abbey they have players such as Podgey Davis and Mulleadys who have been there and done that as well as some promising young players, so they could get to a semi final, dont know bout winning it though. In response to Dromard Abu's comment, you are usually on the money with your posts but would totally disagree with that last one about them abbey lads mentioned being "very average", them lads are far from average footballers!
