So much so the roads got blocked and the game was delayed. And of course Maurice's mighty point. One of the best days for me was again against Dublin, in the semi final 07. Cracking game and so close. Could have gone either way but was such a brilliant feeling to win that game. The dublin crowd were incredible again that day and the atmosphere was electric. Best atmosphere of any game I've ever been at. Worst day was, as one of the meath posters pointed out, the 01 semi final where we got trounced by meath. Left a bad taste in my mouth after the taunting and jeering the meath fans en masse gave us for the last 15 minutes of that game. Wont forget it. So many of us left early in disgust. Glad to have been at the final that year where the tribesmen gave the royalers a right hammering. Definitely one of the best days. Prior to that I had nothing against meath. Had been to the 88,89,90,91 and 96 finals and thought they were OK. WE WERE IN A PUB IN THURLES ,AND OWNER TOLD US HE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THE SUPPORT WE BROUGHT TO THURLES EVER,GREAT THE FIRST DAY FINISHED IN A DRAW ,LET US TRAVEL THATS WHAT I SAY.WHEN MAURICE PUT THAT OVER I WAS PRAYING FOR THE WHISTLE. tomaoo7 (Dublin) - Posts: 5896 - 25/02/2009 15:33:53 218016 Link 0 |
I have 2. I won a minor District title in hurling when I was 17. I was centre-forward and we hadn't much of a chance of winning as our opponents had beaten us well in the round robin stage. I had a quiet first half, scoring a flukey goal and a point, and with 20 mins left we trailed by 2 points. I was moved to full forward, where I scored 1-6 in the final quarter to win by 3 points in the finish, with me scoring 2-7 in total. That was awesome. that was probably one of the last games I played for a few years, as I developed an eye condition which meant I had constant double-vision. From the age of 19 to 23 I didnt play at all, but eventually it was cured. At my new club it was all hurling and no football but I eventually togged out, and in my very first game of football we beat Bunclody's 3rd team by 0-6 to 0-5 where I scored 5. We had no sub. By the end of the summer we had won the County Junior A title (with 21 subs), our club's only ever football title, and I was top-scorer for the division. After giving up for so long and thinking I'd never play again to winning a county title and doing so well was great. Just to show I could do it again. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2573 - 25/02/2009 15:34:54 218018 Link 0 |
winning a tyrone junior championship in the eighties...standing in the hill at the all-ireland final in 86 though we were beat, and definitely the 2003 final...winning the damn thing at long last mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 25/02/2009 16:52:56 218116 Link 0 |
my first all ireland final is my best memory. Twas '97 and we beat Mayo but watching Maurice Fitz kicking those points from the small Nally stand and then running onto the pitch was the best feeling ever. I went onto the pitch when Armagh and Tyrone first beat us and even went down last September too and the craic was mighty even though i was half depressed. Their were people coming over hugging us taking photos with us, grown men coming over shaking hands with us like as if it was me and them who had just played, great craic great memories and it made losing alot easier kerrymad (Kerry) - Posts: 12 - 25/02/2009 17:09:51 218155 Link 0 |
greatest days for me was last november in junior championship final london, scored a long free to level game in which we were 7 points down then in replay a week later scored a goal in injury time to snatch a win in a game we were 8 points up at half time only to see other team come back from the dead 2 nearly win it.!! some game and some feeling heading to kerry that evening on plane having delayed a family break to play in replay. shy.ted (Kerry) - Posts: 29 - 25/02/2009 17:38:44 218212 Link 0 |

Tough choice between Tyrone's 3 all-ireland wins. But i think it is when the media gets it wrong it never gets old like. Especially tyrone v dublin in 2008 quarter final. best moments in GAA are without doubt when the media in the south pump dublin up and they collapse. more of the same please.
