Croke Park Saturday night 14th February 2009. Skelligs Rangers winning All Ireland Junior Championship, followed by Intermediate victory by fellow parishioners St. Michaels/Foilmore. Nothing has or will surpass it. Real Kerry Fan (None) - Posts: 2957 - 22/02/2009 17:37:31 214816 Link 0 |
Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, June 1st. 2009 is a date I'll never foget. Wexford, 8 points down with 18 minutes left...... and then what a turnaround. And Matty's 2 points at the end, to equalise and then to win it......... And most of all, the shock and disbelief on the faces of Meath fans who had taunted us all day ..................... happy days !!!!!!! yellabelly (Wexford) - Posts: 1062 - 22/02/2009 18:24:45 214848 Link 0 |

Standin in the hill in 1989 as an Antrim supporter watchin my county compete in an All-Ire final. It is sadly, highly unlikely that any Antrim man will again get to savour that experience in their lifetime. gaelantrim (Antrim) - Posts: 1616 - 23/02/2009 15:00:12 215625 Link 0 |
yellabelly County: Wexford Posts: 92 Yah i missed that one but after sitting with the Tyrone boys during the semi-final last year I could imagine how it must have felt to turn around with a clenched fist at the end after all the **** you got. I was just praying we would get them in the end but we fell short and their teams class showed in the end. ColinWex (Wexford) - Posts: 901 - 23/02/2009 15:23:56 215648 Link 0 |

hurling - 2001 all ireland Tipperary defeated Galway, my first all ireland final against our arch rivals & neighbours, tommy dunne was unreal & its such a shame that a great plyer such as brian o meara missed it coz of a VERY soft red card in the semi!! premierman21 (Tipperary) - Posts: 429 - 23/02/2009 16:40:08 215745 Link 0 |
99 soaked wet on Hill 16. Twas the time they made the presentation in the centre of the field and no supporters were allowed on. The Cork lads finished the lap of honour by running down to us on Hill 16 and climbing up on the fence to join us in celebration. The celebration was the best part, the game itself was awful. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 23/02/2009 16:49:02 215767 Link 0 |
As a 12 year old in 1983 going to Pairc ui chaoimh with my old man to see the All Ireland semi final replay between Cork & the Dubs in Pairc ui chaoimh. Beautifull weather , great game of football (Barney & Mullins were awesome that day!) a sea of blue in Pairc ui Chaoimh and an 11 victory for the Dubs!! The final (even though we won in a THE most controversial final ever!) was a complete anti climax in relation to the win in Cork. dubupnorth (Dublin) - Posts: 1897 - 23/02/2009 18:01:15 215891 Link 0 |
Wexford v Offaly, 1996. Thought we had no hope, was not long born when we won the last one in 1977. Winning that Leinster Final was better than winning the All-Ireland because it was new to most of us below a certain age. The scenes of unbridled joy and emotion on the pitch afterwards were absolutely unforgettable. And the stories that came out afterwards about Griffin getting the lads off the bus and walking out of Wexford and telling them the next time they would come in they would be Leinster champions. Still to this day brings a tear to my eye, especially given that repeat of those days seems a long way away for those few of us die-hard Wexford fans who havent abandoned ship!!!! Obviously as a Down man the best day of our counties life came in 1960 when we became the 1st team from the 6 counties to take Sam north of the border - however unfortunately that was not in my lifetime. The best GAA day of my lifetime probably came when i was a wee fella - although i cant remember it, it is a match i have watched many times since - the All-Ireland final of 1994 when the mighty mournemen beat the Dubs - I will never forget that memorable penalty save made by Neil Collins. The best match of my lifetime also came in that year although i cant remember it either it is another game I have watched many times - The Down - Derry match in Celtic Park. The year previous (1993) Derry had hammered Down in Newry in the game that later became known as the massacre in the marshes so when Down won that day not only was it a great occasion but in my view it was the best game of Gaelic football ever played. dabiglad (Down) - Posts: 155 - 25/02/2009 14:22:56 217885 Link 0 |
Tamooo7, Thurles 01 was special. What a great few matches down there. Brilliant Dublin fans who came down in their droves. So much so the roads got blocked and the game was delayed. And of course Maurice's mighty point. One of the best days for me was again against Dublin, in the semi final 07. Cracking game and so close. Could have gone either way but was such a brilliant feeling to win that game. The dublin crowd were incredible again that day and the atmosphere was electric. Best atmosphere of any game I've ever been at. Worst day was, as one of the meath posters pointed out, the 01 semi final where we got trounced by meath. Left a bad taste in my mouth after the taunting and jeering the meath fans en masse gave us for the last 15 minutes of that game. Wont forget it. So many of us left early in disgust. Glad to have been at the final that year where the tribesmen gave the royalers a right hammering. Definitely one of the best days. Prior to that I had nothing against meath. Had been to the 88,89,90,91 and 96 finals and thought they were OK. thykingdomcome (Kerry) - Posts: 1206 - 25/02/2009 15:04:44 217961 Link 0 |
