Can I just say, being compared to Kevin Myers is both an honour and a privilage. I thank you.

I think this recession will be the end of us all. Some posters here who are lucky enough to be still in a job have time to write short stories almost in conveying their side of this (well worn out now surely) debate.

"Your patriotism and Irishness is to be admired however. Maybe you could preach a bit more of your gospel in your own locality up there. Seems a lot of people in your neck of the woods have no difficulty with anything foreign if recent job losses there are anything to go by. Bloody foreigners, eh! "

Cheap shot "Dubinmeath", people from all over the country headin north to shop, them job losses are only the start of it im afraid.

Anyway I agree, this is a rant for the sake of it. From what I know, there would have to be a vote at congress to open up re the Heineken Cup. Original vote was for the opening of Croker to the Irish National Soccer & Rugby teams.
So basically, it cant be done.

Also this talk about playing CR and NR cups in Croker. Only the counties loyal fans turn up, so usually only 5000 in croker for the majority of these games as the Liam Mc brigade have no interest in coming in early to watch them.

Open Croker to everything, and pump all the revenue into the weaker counties, tis the only way the GAA can develope.
To the Louthman, how will it affect you? How often do ye play in Crker yerselves so ye might as well get some revenue from it in order to develope. (Not a dig, we wont be there too often ourselves for the forseeable!!)

I recall Sligo Rovers honouring the successful Sligo hurling team last year at half time in one of their League of ireland games... Would this happen at a GAA match? i.e. Honouring a successful Rovers team. I think not... This should work both ways, but it won't. I'm a fanatical sports fan. Rugby, football, GAA, cricket, snooker, boxing, NHL (Ice Hockey)... All great sports... I don't know why anybody would be against a sport...

And American Football was in Croker long before soccer and rugby were... Remember that!!

Great post Liam, agree wholeheartedly!!

Hey its all sport and they all need a decent size pitch and plenty of seats for the big events, shouldnt matter what code actually owns the venue

Well Liam I agree in general but I have always followed soccer, yes and I have gone to numerous League of Ireland matches over the years. I agreed with the opening of Croke Park and still do until the agreement ends. But because I feel that the GAA should have it available at every beck and call from an association who still wont even make an attempt to build a decent stadium galls me.Lansdowne Road will hold appox 35,000 + corporate. Thomond Park's capacity a joke.I can never be branded anti 'foreign sport' but because I do not agree this time does NOT put me under that heading. Bogotry is defined thus' non tolerance of peoples beliefs and way of life' As I stated two rugby schools in my area have displayed their bigotry which I have not found not to exist as much in the soccer fraternity of Dublin.

I think this recession will be the end of us all. Lockjaw , 28/01/2009 at 15:41 _________________________________ Jeeze Lockjaw - are you the guy who stands behind the goals in Croker with John 3:14 on the banner! Repent ye sinners - for judgment is at hand - a line that can be heard often in the bowels of Croke Park as lads prepare to appear before the CAC, CCCC, DRA, etc etc. Don't worry about the R word. When I was a lad that Adolf guy was bombing the North Stand but aye by gum we wouldn't let him best us. Tins of corned beef, coddle and fresh mullet from the Liffey sustained us. Aye we may have had cardboard shoes, no knees in our shorts and bare elbows but we had hope! We had hope and resilience and fortitude - and the GAA. And we Triple Crowns and Jacky Kyle - and we had Rovers and Drums and Bohs - and no-one said a blind word about one being better than the other or taking from the other! We had our diversities at the weekend. And we worked hard. God how hard we worked! And we took nothing from no-one - oh no! pride prevented that. And we gave each other a leg up when it was needed! And we shared - we had nothing - but we shared it. Don't worry about now. So the 4th TV has gotta go, the 3rd car is on the market, only two holidays - sigh! We'll get through it - cos we're Irish. Nothing beats the Irish, nothing takes away our hope - our zest for life. Nobody! And if someone does try to do you down or undermine you - embrace him - he will certainly be Irish too!

It's gathering something all right Liam. Whether you can call it proper debate is ... well ... debateable!
Anything that takes away from the Top-10's is good for me.
Maybe we can have a list of the top-10 threads that took discussion away from the top-10's?

I agree the top ten posts are a joke. But this debate is as old as Charles Montgomery Burns.

Don't think we can sweep this recession under the carpet. It's gonna be worse than the 80's. Funny you mention that Adolf character Jayo. He romped to power on the back of a collapsed economy. Interesting & poor times ahead......

RKF, I think you'll find that 'bogotry' is actually defined as 'the process of excreting waste matter from the bowels'.

The Revolution

As far as I remember Ken Doherty paraded the World Snooker title in 1997 in Croker before or at halftime in a Dubs game.

Poor dublinmeath lad/lassie. Talk about an isdentity crisis!! :-)) :-)) National pride?? calling people who disagree with you bigots?? What are you rambling on about? No wonder you suffer from an identity crisis. You can even string a thought together never mind an identity. You and other mouth pieces can't and indeed prefer not to debate the point properly. That is assuming that it is many people! How coincidental that so many people came on to "support" liam immediately after him posting his biggotted rant, hmm... And for those knuckle scrapers who can't work out what I am saying. Liam & his one friend have sevaral identities!! Hense the identity crisis suffered by dublinmeath. The points made are simple. 1. Nobody bluttered "foreign games" apart from liam - the real biggot 2. Croke Park is about marketing the GAA as much as anything else. 3. Selling off your key marketing tool costs you in the long run. 4. Therefore supporting the point made about the Englsih RFU telling the English FA to get lost. And if there are so many stadia in London and England capable of holding such large soccer matches, why did they go to Wales??? Simple they wanted the biggest stadium possible to maximise revenue. Nothing wrong with that. But that's why they wanted Twickenham and that's why the English RFU told them to get lost. Finally as for the mud slung at anybody who dares questioning the opening of Croke Park (by the agenda folk (2 people) lead by liam re: national pride etc) was it not your own sense of "national pride" that pushed for the opening of Croker. I.E. "we couldn't have that going abroad" Go back and re-examine your twisted mixed up identity crisis ladies!!

You would have to be an idiot to think that there was no competition between different sports. Of course there is. It's the same in every country on the globe.

Just because there is competition doesn't mean you think the other sport is evil. Grow up!!

Competition is healthy but it doesn't mean you hand over your most valuable asset. It's a sad reflection on the GAA to think that some of you guys are involved at any level. It's a very worrying future.

Finally to the mud slingers the GAA is a sporting organisation and shopping wherever you may shop is of no relevance to the GAA or this thread so leave it out. I also believe that they play a bit of GAA in Newry? Why not support your GAA family and stop being so biggoted and territorial! Oh yes the shopping mud slingers are showing their true colours.

And as Louth is the smallest county in the Republic I very much doubt that all or even 1 quarter of the shoppers are from Louth.

Probably a bit closer to the homes of those slinging the mud ;-) But nothing wrong with it.

Everyone to their own. I am G.A.A. through and through however and i dont make any apologies to anyone for being that way. As i have stated before i just dont like soccer and cant get into the rugby at all. Everyone to their own as long as they dont try to impose their will on me. It should however be kept on the Non G.A.A. thread. !!
