Setanta 0, No need for name calling, if you can't voice your opinion rationally maybe you should take up a non aggressive sport like chess, etc seeing that louth have done very little on the football scene in recent times. maybe you should stick to your own side of the country. (presuming that you are from Louth, which i doubt)

getting back to the real matter, no one from either team was sent off but there were a few that could have been, and as for spitting at the players, i don't condone it but didn't see or hear of it happening. Both Spiddal and Arainn have good supporters who are passionate about their teams and i would like to think that they wouldn't sink that low.

I agree with you but unfortunately id say the county board will deal with both teams rather stringently following the incidents in derry which set a precedent.
Hopefully though it wont affect either teams promotion hopes as too much hard work has been done by both sets of players to see it wasted by 5 minutes of madness..........

I see what you did there Spraoi...... very original. Seeing as you have only posted 2 messages I gather it has taken you a wee while to figure out the whole opposable thumb and keyboards and stuff.
Regarding spitting, I am just stating what I saw, and I was disgusted.

SetantaO,this little back and forth is getting a bit childish,on both sides,we will have to agreee to disagree,as we both seem to have seen different things at the same match.

Does anyone know when the Report from the match will come to be known, when will the lads know what punishment will be handed out,as the chances of these two teams meeting again in the league is a big possibility.

Violence must be confronted Galway Advertiser, October 16, 2008. Nobody likes any columnist to be overly dramatic, and when there are people losing their jobs hand over fist in manufacturing and construction, and the economic prospects for the country appear to be bleak, issues of sport can rightly be put on the back boiler. However sometimes the nettle has to be grasped and important problems addressed. And serious violence in and after GAA games is one that cannot and should not be brushed under the carpet. GBH or assault should be treated the same if it happens inside the wire of a GAA/soccer/rugby pitch as it is on a street. Last Sunday morning in Pearse Stadium, An Spideal took on the Aran Islands in the Junior A championship replay. The stakes were high and there was tension at the ground. The men from the mainland won a tight contest by two points and those in attendance thought that was that. Let's go home and tackle the roast. However instead we had a massive brawl with some players and selectors taking some serious and vicious blows. One man was kicked in the ribs as he was on the ground after being struck in the face. Another player was set upon and beaten by more than one assailant. Now I am a GAA man all my life and hope to continue to be so for the next few decades if God spares me, and I am around the place to do so, but no sane or rational individual could condone and not totally condemn the scenes that were witnessed in Pearse Stadium last weekend. And Galway is not alone in such sickened violence. We have seen the serious sanctions that the Derry county board imposed on some of their clubs and some individuals recently. It is only correct that people are held responsible for their actions and a 96 week ban is the minimum that a member of a club should receive if he has been involved in assaulting other members of the association. There is a new horrible breed of violence and aggression that seems to be extremely prevalent in Irish society and it manifests itself very quickly and dangerously in the sporting arena. I spoke at length to a member of the Gardai yesterday and he confirmed to me that a lot of the violent incidents that take place in many Irish towns and cities on a Saturday night could be avoided if people just kept a cool head and walked away from confrontation. Instead there is a macho - "I'll show him. I'll burst his chops for him" - attitude that can be extremely difficult to diffuse and leads to people attending A & E units. As regards this particularly appalling fight from last Sunday, the Galway football board have already held a meeting to discuss the outrageous behaviour of some individuals and following an extensive investigation that they are due to carry out it is expected that some severe sanctions will be handed out. I await with interest the conclusion of that investigation and it will be interesting to see what action is taken. Unless the governing body of a unit is seen to take such demonstrations of wanton violence gravely, what hope or future does the sport they administer have?

Word has it that ballinasloe are already back in training, and on an "intensive" weights programme.

They must mean business this time round.

Good to see ballinasloe are being relaisitic and pacing themselves for next year, start training in October, season ends again in June...looks like a pretty shrewd move by ballinasloe to keep race week free. Word has it that Williamstown have started training for the senior championship in 2010...now thats forward thinking

I see on the galwaygaa website that the county junior A final is due to be played this saturday. I assume that means the county board have concluded their investigation into the west final? Were there any suspensions handed down?

This might be the reason they have to play on Saturday - the winners are down to play on Sunday in the Connacht semi finals.

top_corner - Meeting was last night, as far as I know. The finding will be posted (E-mailed) to the clubs today. County board does not tell the clubs its decision there and then. The clubs will have a certain period to appeal.
So who ever (if any) gets a suspension they'll still be OK to play on Saturday.

An Spideal v Bothar Na Tra-Cnoc na Cathrach game went into extra time. Bothar Na Tra-Cnoc na Cathrach deserved there win by all accounts. The game was 20 minutes delayed, while a pitch inspection was carried out.

I was very surprised at the Oileain Arainn v Rinn Mhaoile result. Fair play to Rinn Mhaoile, you gotta hand it to them. they never give up.

So Oileain Arainn stay in Junior A and An Spideal have to win the county final or else hope St Kerrils win the double.

Playing county finals in November is not on, not alone a west board semi final. On the master fixture the date of the county final is 05/10/08.

interesting results in the semi finals alright, teams that finished first and second beaten but there has been very little between these teams all year. aran condemned to another year in junior, hard to know if they will ever get out of the division, always seem to put up big scores during the year and fade at the end when it matters most. any idea when final is on - will it played with championship replay?
