Fredperry - your missing the point Fred. It's not about Donegal or Sligo taking anyone. Melvinia is going to be a new entity in it's own right and the first blow for its sovereighty will be it's assault on the Nestor Cup.

It was very decent of you to draft the Melvinia Declaration of Independence. However I have but one slight criticism. A man of your intellect not to mention your in depth knowledge on diplomatic etiquette, shoud of course have prefaced the Declaration with "Urbi et Orbi". We have standards to keep charlotted.
Melvinia shall be henceforth known as "The Land of the Free-taker".

Please say its not true - if Melvin man is the new DL he may have live in exile from his homeland and Melvin Man could not bear this. Say its not true J-B

185961 boxtyeater no need to say hurtful things to me.

Now where ávic did I say hurtful things to you? Did my post not praise and encourage your ambitions? If you took anything from my post it should have been the fact that the country needs more progressive idealists like yourself.

Evidently anything bordering on witty or light-hearted posted on this board in the last 24 hrs. has been savagely dealt with by the moderator. It sometimes make me wonder why bother.

boxtyeater, whats with the french (avic)! the googlization of that word isn't working as i cant get a fada on the "a"! but i wouldn't say im too progessionist, i just play football or sometimes do linesman or whatever if needed on the day. other lads here in the club are doing great work so hopefully that'll pay off in the coming years.

btw way lads i've thought of our own name for this new state. its going to be Kinlough Mor (put a fada on the "o" so its the irish for big). Melvinia sounds like a girls name spelt wrong!

Melvinman, the term ávic is an old Irish term of endearment, commonly used by elder statesfolk like myself.
As every day is a learning day - if you simultaneously hold down the keys marked Ctrl and Alt and hit the letter you request the fada to appear over you may get a result. ( 3 working fingers required for this task ).
No charge for the tuition there lad - this one's " on the house".

We're just trying to assist. We will be the first to open up diplomatic relations with ye as it seems ye're not for turning. Your Ambassador Monsieur Regan is we understand already in residence in Carrick.

Might I suggest though that Kinlough be the capital but that Tullaghan be considered as the summer residence of the Head of State. Kinlough Mor is not inclusive enough.

Melvinia isn't to your approval, perhaps MELVINSTAN?

As for fighting it does seem to be something that is geneticlly ingrained in ye lads but mind, that Statue on Selton Hill nor the cross on Shemore were not put there for excellence in tiddlywinks.

Finally who is in the running for Head of State. I presume ye will have a Prime Minister and a President with a full Cabinet?

yes the "v" perplexed me for a bit. My ulster irish aint what it used to be. Boxtyeater, keep it simple lad, keep it simple. Jim: I was only jaking your chain about the fighting thing, although having a statue is never a good thing, means ye lost! but I know right well what ye boys did and we're a better county for it. I had thought about using Tullaghan but if we want to be accepted globally we need a name that other countries will understand. Kinlough Mor is that kind of name. The "Kin" sounds like king and the "lough" translates from the English word "Dom"..Kingdom!! (sure that's what we'll tell the Yanks anyway). Don't worry about choosing a leader of the country, us boys will work that one out. You can be the South Leitrim Ambassador .

Tibetan exiles hail Melvinman as new dalai lama After an exhausting recruitment process, the tibetan independence movement have overturned the 14th dalai lama and instated his holiness, from the gelug school in the glens of north leitrim " Tenzin Melvin Man niatso ". The movement had recently become disillusioned with the Dalai lama whose reluctance for full independence for Tibet infuriated so many. The movement were so impressed by Melvin man's seek for independence for his own area that they sought his help. However due to his love and determination to break kinlough free of the grip of Leitrim it meant they would struggle to get their man. Then on the 20th of january a number of American and European celebrities, and some non-Tibetan followers of Tibetan Buddhism, with the aid of CIA tracked down Melvin man. Lurking in a two man tent on the banks of the river duff, Melvin Man resigned to the fact that there were bigger fish in the sea than kinloughs struggle against the south. One of the key factors was the input of Richard gere who spoke of his love for tibet and his out rage at the dalai lama... "There was no starvation in Tibet. Starvation didn't come until the Chinese came to Tibet ......" Hollywood star and "free-Tibet" activist Richard Gere told Melvin Man. ..........

Donegal have closed all border crossings with Melvinstan and started systematically destroying tunnels which they suspect Melvin gaels were using to smuggle in Football managers for years. President of Donegal Brian mcEniff said "it was a difficult decision to make as we see the Melvinstanis as our neighbours and Cousins". Vice President of Donegal, Sean McEniff added "they are like brothers to us". Queen of Donegal, Daniella O Connell has asked for a two week Country Music festival in Bundoran to be cancelled or moved to The Rosses amidst safety fears. There are fuirther concerns that cholestorol deficient Melvinstanis will riot having being denied access to their favoured burger joints across the Drowes. A Leitrim Post photographer out and about on the Melvistani border has described the atmosphere as very tense.

The Republic of Melvinstan has anounced a a sitting of a new Dail Melivinstan on January 31st, calling all elected represantives to a meeting in Kinlough, their new capital. They say its no coincendence its 90 years since the first Dail Eireann in the Mansion House. Tullaghan has been invited, as has Rossivner and Kiltyclogher...making common cause with their compatriots in the North Leitrim Glens, on the Shores of Lough Melvin....this to be known as Kinlogh Mor.

Sean MacDiarmada, from nearby Kilty is their republican inspiration.

They are going to work on a new constition and Language.

So far they have only two words in this langauge...á bhic

Mary Harney has flown by helicopter to Manorhamilton to co-ordinate a millitary move against this fledgling republic. All border crossings are closed, but they are finding more new tunnels by the day, as desperate Melvin men are fleeing to get their burgers and chips and pints of guinness.

Sky news are running the story 24/7 A report of a rocket being fired into Drumshanbo turned out to be an exhaust pipe from a Sean Quinn lorry.

Dunno lads, I think we should stick with Kinlough Mor. And your putting too much pressure on me to be the new leader. I know now how Obama must be feeling. On another note. we should get back to serious football talk and stop these inside jokes. Melvin Gaels are pushing hard for the championship next year and winning it will get those monkeys off our back. If we can just get to the final then we would win it. Were there any leitrim lads playing with the colleges and ITs recently? Would be good to get them involved in the leitrim set up. Good to see also that Mickey Moran a fellow northerner is giving the northern leitrim lads a proper chance on this years panel. Not sure if Dessie ever crossed the border to us at all!

"by disparagement, by starvation, by repressions, forced direction, and the stunning hammerblows of conditioning, the free roving mind is being persued, roped, blunted, drugged. it is a sad suicidal course our species seems to have taken and i for one have had enough, im starting my own country a new utopia, where free minds can live and flourish........... the free exploring mind of the human is the most valuable thing in the world" - melvinman on a rant on new years eve. Personally I think having a monkey on your back is an unfair advantage Melvin man.

If Phelan is standing in goals with a well trained monkey on his shoulders the sky is literally the limit in what he could save during a season. If you have Mccarron and Co. with equally skilled simians on their shoulders then I can see them cleaning up with very kickout. Is it hard to run with a monkey on your back though?

Have ye a special monkey trainer? Do ye pay peanuts?

Please share your secrets with us.

I think I rememebr you now fightig with the gremlins outside the Powerhouse about 15 years ago with a chimpanzee on your back. Your identity is out Melvin man not that you give a monkeys.
