big cheese, the reason i put the boot in was that mise has bin talkin bout how lettermore management wil have trouble handling our discipline. "mise" i heard a funny story. 1 of my teammates was talkin to --- and he described ya as a "bodhran as carna". it figures with the ridiculous and unintelligent comments ya have been leaving on this site over the past year. fear chuigeal (Galway) - Posts: 129 - 17/01/2009 14:28:22 183009 Link 0 |

It seems to me that two teams have to come west this year, because St Michael's are gone up senior and my near neighbours Miceal Breathnach's are gone down to junior A.I think what should really happen is,instead of a West and North,it would make much more sense to have an Intermediate A and B league. What you would have then is the top team in the A league and the winner of the championship go up senior. The bottom two teams in the B league go down to junior A.The bottom four teams in the A league go down to the B league and the top four teams in the B league go up to the A league. With this system it give the teams in both leagues alot more to play for.If this was brought in now, this years league would decide who would be in A and who would be in B, next year. The eight teams with the highest number of points in the west and north this year would be A next year and the bottom six teams plus the two teams that come up from junior A would make up the B league.I think if this system was introduced it would make the Intermediate league much more interesting. reteoir (Galway) - Posts: 197 - 20/01/2009 12:18:48 184749 Link 0 |
Nah, an Inter A & B league doesnt add any value to the competition and just adds a whole lot more travelling and expense. GalwayMan (Galway) - Posts: 91 - 20/01/2009 13:08:03 184816 Link 0 |
Yeah,i can see where there could be a little more travelling and also a little more expense from time to time. But really if Lerrermore are travelling to play St James's ,or maybe Caherlistrane under the new system,i don't think there is that much difference. On the positive side, you are not playing the same teams every year ,which can get boring, going to the same places and looking at the same players and the same Ref's as well. Also under the present system, there comes a time during every league campaign, when a team knows that they can't get enough points to get into the playoff's but still have enough points to keep them up. When this happens there remaining matches are normally a farce. But under the new system, this is unlightly to happen, because with four to go up from B to A and four to come down from A to B,all matches will have greater importance, and nearly every team will be in with a chance of going up or down, until the last game is played. This way keeps everybody interested until the very end of the league. Also with this system you are rewarded for getting into the A league, because your are guaranteed at least two years of Intermediate football. reteoir (Galway) - Posts: 197 - 20/01/2009 15:06:15 184991 Link 0 |
should 4 groups, each team playing every team from each group..top two teams from each group going into knockout stages....then the top two teams in the county in the final???? paddy_comelate (Galway) - Posts: 27 - 21/01/2009 10:33:54 185817 Link 0 |
Paddy,i assume you are just talking about the Championship,my recommendation was for the league. reteoir (Galway) - Posts: 197 - 21/01/2009 17:07:33 186211 Link 0 |
there might be some merit in having the better teams in a league by themselves (i.e. the A league). GalwayMan (Galway) - Posts: 91 - 21/01/2009 17:35:19 186262 Link 0 |
Well if the A and B system was to be adopted, then it would be up to every team to try and get into the A league. I agree that its the way to go,and i think it would improve the standard of football as well. I seem to remember some time ago that a suggestion was made ( can't remember who made the suggestion) to reduce the number of senior teams by four, maybe what should be looked at is reduce the senior to 18 teams and up the intermediate to 18,then it would be possible to have 9 teams in Senior A,9 teams in senior B,9 teams in Intermediate A and 9 teams in Intermediate B. This system would streamline both senior and intermediate. Any comments???????????. reteoir (Galway) - Posts: 197 - 21/01/2009 18:39:21 186341 Link 0 |
the same system as the hurlers, then the best teams come through to the final cloud9 (Galway) - Posts: 92 - 23/01/2009 09:16:13 187724 Link 0 |
the system that exits at the moment works...for example Moycullen were the best team two years ago and they proved that by winning the all ireland clubs. On_theball (Galway) - Posts: 55 - 25/01/2009 08:00:07 188919 Link 0 |
To prove my point...for the second year in a row a Galway intermediate team can win the all Ireland club On_theball (Galway) - Posts: 55 - 26/01/2009 10:55:03 189381 Link 0 |

Leitir Móir will win the double this years if they stay injury free....no team around will stop them...it took a numerous amount of injuries and and a very badly reffed game for michaels(all ireland finalists now) to scrape an undeserved 1 point victory in the west board final.....
