While you were at it cloonan you should have mentioned that

MAYO HAVE LOST A TOTAL OF NINE AI FINALS BUT GALWAY HAVE LOST 11 so that would mean that galway are the biggest bottlers in connaught when it comes to the big day.

brilliant post that will shut Cloonan up!

Gud man mayoegian, so u think mayo are better than galway because they have lost 9 all irelands to galway's 11.
So while we are comparing counties by how many all ireland's they have lost let's look at da kerry footballers. They have lost 20 all ireland finals, so kerry have lost 20 compared to mayo's 9, does dat mean u think mayo are better than kerry? Yeah i doubt dat, kerry - 35 all irelands, mayo - 3. So shut ur mouth mayoegian.

Cloonan 14. Galway lost the 1971,73, 74 and 83 All-Ireland finals. four in twelve years. They lost the 83 one to TWELVE players. even Mayo at their worst never managed that. Mayo have 13 league titles, Galway 4. Dont run down the league, the most successful championship side have won it a record 18 times. Mayo rank second to Kerry.Actually I dont believe you are a Galway man at all. Most Galway people I have met are descent people and great crack, you seem to be the exception. You forgot to mention that at U21 Mayo have 20 Cnnacht titles, Galway have 15. Its worse at minor, Mayo have 35 and Galway 22.Any descent Jarlaths team was backboned by Mayomen.

Sorry to be pedantic but you haven't actually explained why you think Galway are better? All you have done is give us some some figures which prove (in your mind) that Galway have played better at times. That is about as useful as saying dogs are better than cats. Your thread should read "In what way Galway have had better match results than Mayo" and then I could just ignore it. If you actually could suggest a reason WHY Galway are better.... wouldn't that be useful now! Coaching, schooling, mindset, self-confidence, physical attributes, diet, weather, facilities, lack of money ... er go away and think then come back when you've something useful to say.

Cloonan 14, im sorry but to be honest it doesnt matter what team are better. The simple fact is that Tyrone are all ireland champions and that is that. Your trying to win a worthless argument really. Its been a few years since either of these teams has won anything substantial and to say one is better that the other is meaningless

I agree with Joe Joe to a certain extent...But this is the GAA and rivalries and derbies are a large part of the GAA. In my view it very hard to judge which is the better county. Galway have a slight edge on us at the moment but that could all change very quickly again.

Mayo may slip even further behind if our underage structure is not reformed and improved. Our minors may have had a small amount of success...But this did not come from any coherent plan, it came from the single mindedness of Ray Dempsey and the leadership of the players. Although there were many talented players on that Minor team(e.g O'Shea, Nally etc) they were not earmarked from early on, they just happened to come along at the right time.

Having said this, Galways structure isn't much better, but at least their commitment to improving can be seen in the new training centre in Loughgeorge. But then again Galway is a very divided county in terms of Hurling/Football. This shows that Galway are making much better use of their resources.

Undoubtedley both counties have the talent to seriously challenge for AI's regularly, but at the moment Galway seem to be in a better position to do so.

Galway are better because in the last fifty years they have had better players in the right positions on the right day more often than Mayo on the day that really matters ALL IRELAND FINAL DAY.Yes 71,73,74,83 were lost but come on everybody in Mayo give the tribesmen and women their due.Look at the real game they gave Kerry in 2008

trixy im sorry but getting beat by kerry is hardly an achievement is it?and if you want to go down that road Mayo only lost by point to Tyrone who beat Kerry when it counted so along your line of thought that makes Mayo better than Galway this year :)
