Excellent reasons there AskUreSister. Although personally i can come up with 1 reason to like all sports and games better than soccer = Cristiano Ronaldo....nuf said. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 26/11/2008 19:03:51 150754 Link 0 |

sorry askoursister i'll have to agree with alsoran and der bumber one of the biggest mistakes that some gaa fans do today when promoting gaelic games is first to run down all other games. To me this is totally detrimental as it makes us look very narrow minded and i for one think our game would stand up to any game played anywhere in the world easliy the best. And 'As for he would run away from him' etc not a good idea either as has already been pointed out. clarity (Tyrone) - Posts: 49 - 26/11/2008 20:50:06 150833 Link 0 |

i think der_bomber needs to came down a bit...it was a bit of craic like! ThomasClarke1 (Tyrone) - Posts: 392 - 26/11/2008 21:51:09 150872 Link 0 |
ive been to matches in croke park and im still wondering where the atmosphere that a few of ye are talking about was.... my local club is going wel in the club championship and there was some craic at the last game. so i dont know where u get that gaa is lacking in atmosphere. ive never been to a boring gaa football or hurling match in croker..i do agree wit the comment that there was some atmosphere at the munster -all black game. but every game in croker is as good as that. i also agree wit another post about the games should be spread around ireland to keep interest alive... this will start a row now but sure wat the hell.... i reckon dublin should have to play there first 2 games away every year.. see how they ll like to travel..... lol lol lol lol lol lol AskUreSister (Westmeath) - Posts: 160 - 26/11/2008 22:07:02 150891 Link 0 |
GAA nicknames are better (The Bull, The Bomber, etc.) . Soccer players just add a Y to their surnames passerby (Tyrone) - Posts: 724 - 26/11/2008 22:12:13 150895 Link 0 |

well ram85 what a clever and well thought out reply, calling someone a 40watt because they dare to take issue with something that has been posted here..i'm not here to pick fights or arguments with anyone but i think if you read back over that post you will find its not all so humorous..some of it was a bit petty and there was some cheap shots against soccer.my opinion only and i am well entitled to make it..and you questioning my intelligence??...says alot about you really der_bomber (Kildare) - Posts: 149 - 26/11/2008 23:09:15 150952 Link 0 |

Nah lads you're getting me all wrong :) I'm not running anyone down. All I'm saying is our supporters could get more 'involved'. So apologies for any misunderstanding. Plus it does annoy me that people constantly run down football and rugby... So I'll burst out with these comments now and again :( As for the Croke Park being too big comment, I agree completely. The GAA, IMO, has ruined it somewhat. Used to be an honour to get to Croker, now every second game is played there. Hopefully when it's finished they'll have AI Quarter Finals in Castlebar and other venues around the country. Just remembering watching Armagh and Wexford on TV last year and thinking how brilliant the atmosphere would have been in a nice 30-40,000 capacity stadium. SirFrederick "Gandalf, you obviously never have been to celtic park for an old firm or champions league game!!!" Gandalf (Meath) - Posts: 57 - 27/11/2008 14:55:48 151508 Link 0 |
Gandalf, i think that gaa matches by their very nature do not lend themselves to the type of chanting in the way soccer matches do. this i believe is mostly due to the fact that supporters are segregated at soccer games so you will have one side singing against the other etc, i mean can you imagine two sets of fans trying to do this while all mixed!!! Also its a cultural thing, you dont hear much chanting at irish sporting events bar LOI games and the dubs and munster games. I go to parkhead at least four times a year and the atmosphere can be incredible, thats not to say that the all ireland final at croker isnt, its just a different type of atmosphere thats all.
