Cartman,of course St. Mary's are the Superpower of Leitrim GAA,it's not that hard to understand.

Define a superpower pumakings? yes marys have a huge pick yo choose from but they were terrible this year, IMO ther not prepared to give the younger generation a chance in the champ, instead they stick by a number of has beens!

Firstly,in terms of football the club has been a very consistent force, especially in senior championship, reaching the last four in the majority of years. This form is replicated too in the league with the exception of this year, where a very poor start consigned them to the bottom from the very start, however still finished sixth! In relation to hurling they have won the past ten championships. There playing pool obviously is the largest in the county with four adult teams in football.Similarly there financial support is unrivalled by most clubs, which I feel elevates them to this power staus.Over the summer months, town businesses are seen presenting cheques on numerous occasions to the club in the local papers.
I do agree with you Cartman in terms of not breaking in the youth, which is why I stated with my superpower reference that relegation could have been for a potentially long time, with so many of the team in late twenties and early thirties.
I admire Mary's though for getting those last two wins, could not have been against tougher opposition in a local rival and league leader.

who are the has beens! Young lads like Nicholas McWeeney, Ray Mulvey, James McGrail, Conor Guckian, Lian McTiernan, Brian Farrell all played Championship, Geno is 34, Jimmy, Mick G, Dermot, Donal K are 30. rest of team is early to mid 20's. The problem with Marys is they dont produce enough forwards capable (strong enough) for Senior... Good players but too light. From what I am told things went a bit stale this year... We will be back!
