Galway minors 2009:

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

a shocking result the last day, even if mayo are one of the favorites for the minor all ireland this year. it is clear that fahy hasnt a clue. however, i feel that the county board needs to look at the underage structure. why is it that galway produces great under 16 teams consistently, yet underachieves at the minor grade. the gap year, when the players are 17, needs to be looked at. a development system should be put in place, which would allow the natural progression of the panel of players, and thus avoid the panic and subsequent burn out of players as they are flogged from november/december until they exit the championship at the end of june.

paddy 11, as regards the clubs you mentioned, its a combination of having both players dropped after the league and just bad underage structures. Milltown: Terrible underage structure for a strong senior club. Their minor and u-16 teams are both in the 13-a-side. This may well be due to lack of numbers but they aren't even the strongest in those groups so its more down to player quality. Dunmore: Had two lads on the league panel. One dropped out due to exam pressure. The other was injured for a while. Their minor team is one of the strongest in B and have a strong u-16 team in A. More of a collection of good players than 1 or 2 greats and the rest pretty ok. Cortoon: Probably the strongest team in C. 13-a-side, solely due to numbers. Most of their good players are still minor next year. Williamstown: pretty good minor team in B. Self-disicpline down there is a huge problem though. I'd know, coming form a neighbouring club. St. Brendan's: Poor minor team in B. Annihalated in a couple of games. Players just not good enough. Glenamaddy: Same problem as Williamstown. Also, lack of numbers caused their minor champ game against Dunmore last nite to be cancelled. Unfortunate for a club like glan. Kilkerrin/Clonberne: One of the stronger teams in B. I was surprised they didn't have at least one player on the panel. Good underage teams though. Caltra: Average minor team in B. Not sure about anything below. They have the opposite to Dunmore. One player domiantes, the rest tag along. Killererin: Have competed in C underage for a while at u-16 and u-14. Average B team in minor. Annaghdown. Surprised they too didn't have anyone on the panel. Minor A.

i'm very surprised that niall quinn(tuam stars) and daithi burke(corofin) didn't make this panel . Taking into consideration that P Cunningham and T Flynn were . No disrespect to P Cunningham and T Flynn .

Fintan Curran, Paedar O Griofa, Fiach O'Bearra, Padraig cunningham, Tomas Flynn, Einne O'hEochaidh, Kenneth Hansberry are all the players that were part of the panel this year that are underage next year! I think...
What players shone from county minor this year that will represent galway in u21 grade or senior?
The teams ye have mentioned below have no players good enough to play county minor standard

intospace . . . is it wrong to offer up an opinion? We('CRITICS') are not making excuses , no minor galway panel would have bet mayo this year , we all know that , the whole point of a forum is for people to offer up their opinions on certain topics .

in response to two posts here:
1. Although i agree adam keane is a quality player having played against him, he simply wouldnt have been good enough to make minor this year. However id give him a chance next year. I was surprised he didnt make ted webb last year.
2.Yes Niall Quinn has the ability to have made galway minor this year and the only reason he was a sub against ballinasloe was because he was injured
