Stephen Roche without doubt. I'll never forget him tracking back Delgado in the Alps and completly collapsing after. Unbelievable stuff in the worlds toughest sport. -A sport which has been completely discredited. People mention Murtagh as one of the greats. Well now I would be biased towards any Meathman but Johnny is not a patch on Fallon. -Murtagh is not that far behind Fallon at all. I agree with you that Fallon is one of the best ever though. As for best jockey ever it's hard to look past Lester Piggot, his record speaks for itself. Greatest Irish sportsman probably has to be George Best, since no other Irish sportsman is considered among the all-time greats at what he did. And an all-time great at pulling super-hot ladies aswell, nearly deserves the award just for that alone!! aidangalway (Galway) - Posts: 648 - 20/10/2008 12:49:15 122409 Link 0 |

There could be a large pool of untapped talent here. Anyone who got away from her should be immediately stuck into the Irish athletics team. holymoly (Dublin) - Posts: 757 - 20/10/2008 13:46:17 122497 Link 0 |

The Master: I take it you don't know an awful lot about sport in general? ....How can you honestly say that Roy Keane achieved more on the biggest stage than any other Irish person?..... Surely you're having a laugh...??.... All credit to Roy and all that.. yes he was a magnificent soccer player and all that but please don't even think about mentioning his name in the same sentence as true Irish greats who did actually perform on the world stage such as Padraig Harrington, Sonia O'Sullivan., Ronnie Delaney, Eamonn Coughlan, John Treacy, Stephen Roche, Sean Kelly etc......Now there's a few names for you who did actually perform 'on the biggest stage over a long period of time'....!!! Interesting to see the country is still just as divided on the Keane issue over 6 years on! mid-mon man (Monaghan) - Posts: 1680 - 20/10/2008 16:43:18 122727 Link 0 |
From the question I would take it how they preformed for Ireland or represented Ireland(if sole game) so what the boy Roy did for manure is not the issue, what did he do for. promote/enhance Irelands sporting reputation, answer FA, he had one good qualifying campaign where he was joint top scorer with Ian Harte, apart from that he never produced the goods in an Ireland jersey, right from the start he didn't care about Ireland- he evens says so in his book, Paul McGrath -Irelands best soccer player and also the last defender to win Player of the year, but most likely Padraig H the best overall sports man, and by the way golf is the second most played sport in the world and he has no team to rely on BigRon1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 80 - 20/10/2008 16:48:19 122733 Link 0 |

The Master- i didnt write any of what you quoted that was someone else. What i said was "Keane was a very good player and worked very hard but brady, mcgrath and best were much better footballers." bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4649 - 20/10/2008 16:55:43 122742 Link 0 |
