Div 1-4 Promotion & Relegation

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I would have to agree with you mandown there must be a lot of boys not getting footy which would call into question their strength in depth, might be a lot of duds on the panel or maybe medal hunters tagging on for glory. Based on that I would have to say they will seriously struggle with Div 3 next year, its not a great div but it is tough, with no respite as we've found to our cost this year! Has anyone actually lodged an appeal against them or is it up to the county board to notice the discrepancy etc?

common sense has to come into play here, if st.johns are to be excluded then the same has to be said of 3 teams in div.3 and 1 in div2. this would mean that the div.3 play-offs would be a non starter for at least another 2 weeks, and seeing as they are already in full flight, this is very unlikely to happen.

Well the lads at Aughlisnafin are just happy getting football and am sure would welcome any disgruntled St Johns players with open arms as many of them actually live in The Finn parish!! I don't think anyone has to lodge an appeal as it is up to the county board to act on any breach of the rules. I can only imagine the brush will be out and the carpet lifted!!! The behaviour of the committee and management of St Johns certainly has diluted much of the sympathy many in the county may have had for them.

did they play a friendly on the same day??
if they named 32 players they can make a reserve team common sense!! so y did they have to play 9 first team players in that match??

Well mandown i think you and the rest of the finn players should keep your nose out of St Johns affairs and consentrate on winning a match for a change. From what i can see there is a lot of people on here jealous of St Johns success this season. And we haven't finished yet!!!!

jealous of what? not fielding in two matches! which in the rule book spells expulsion from all county. will Bright be the down rep in this years ulster club. if things are done by the book they will be, but we all know what a mess of a county board we have.

It's the affairs of the entire county if theres been a breach of rules not just St Johns affairs. Mandown, from whatever club he is from, is entitled to ask these questions if there has been a breach. This is because it calls into question the integrity of the entire county board and the reliance of paid up clubs on the system. This will be 2 years running that there has been a mess made with this current issue and drumgath last year.

Also perhaps the Finn could have got their first win if St Johns had fielded against them....

You are talking rubbish. There has been no breach of the rules. This is just something made up by people grasping at straws.
Dromara were simply not good enough to get promotion but do not want to see us go up.
And are you having a laugh when i say the finn might have got their first win against us. I doubt if there is any team in Div 3 who could seriously challenge us at the minute and i fully expect us to gain promotion next season again.
For now we have an important game representing the county tomorrow night and i expect everyone in to county to be behind us, including Dromara and the finn!!

this not a made up rule. good luck any way. the county board wont thank st john for the hassle they are now in. next year the county board will not be able to sanction any suspenions or any other year for that matter. for not enforcing this rule they might as well close up and just let everything go and whatever happens, happens. you might as well go out and kick the hell out of the best player on the other team get sent to the line but come straight back on. if i ever have any dealings with the county board i might as wekll just ignore them. and i can see this being the case in future problems

Think before you speak, you narrowly won a c'ship against a bunch of soccer players and you won a league with no serious contenders. I know a few aghaderg boys abd by all accounts they don't even train and they ran you close. You's are running up monutains and round c'wellan forest park and just about passed the hurdles. LEt's be realistic you's will get tanked next year. Are you seriously suggesting no-one will come close to ya's next year. If kilclief or Downpatrick come down its curtains for a start not to mention the other teams. The likes of drumgath would be too big and physical for your small team for a start.

Thats the problem with the johnnies, pure arrogance - ''I expect everyone'', why can you not ask for support instead of demanding it, your turning a lot of people against you's.

As for me talking rubbish, the rules are rules, check it out big bad johnny my little friend, your in breach and you's shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

Saturday 1st Nov 2 30
Div 3 Relegation Playoff
Castlewellan
St John Bosco v Teconnaught
I think that Bosco will pull out all the stops as they usually do and will be too strong for Teconnuaght

Div 2 Promotion Playoff
Burren
Clann na Banna v Warrenpoint
I have heard thst this game is off this weekend, not sure how true that is. In saying that this is a hard one to call. I have said previously that the Clanns would not go up but having seen them play a few times they are a very good unit. Tight defence, good midfield and very mobile in the forward line. Warrenpoint suffered a defeat to lowly Kilclief, although Kilclief were fighting for survival. It wouldn't surprise me if the div 2 promotion play-off's took a while to decide who goes up!

Sunday 2nd Nov 2 00
Div 2 Relegation Playoff
Kilcoo
Tullylish v Kilclief
Kilclief finished the season with 2 excellent victories over Bryansford and the afore mentioned Warrenpoint. This will have given them confidence going into this vital game. Tullylish has finished the season the form team in all 4 divisions. 5 wins and and a draw in the last 6 games. They must be kicking themselves for not picking more points up during the year and therefore would not be in this position. In saying that I fancy Tullylish to beat Kilclief and ultimatley stay up, which in the end would be a good season for them.

Div 3 Promotion Playoff
Daragh Cross
Bredagh v Carryduff
What a mouth watering game in prospect. No love lost between these 2 clubs and this game will decide who has the bragging rights in the Bot on Sunday night! A championship game if ever there was one. Again a tough call, but Carryduff's experience may well see them through this, they won't want to spend another season in the 3rd division.

Newcastle
Glasdrumman v Ardglass
I would have to fancy Glassdrumman for this one. They have been consistent all year and I think that they will prevail.

Only my thoughts, football is a strange game!!

i have heard that mayobridge will not be fielding tommorrow against saval, thus leaving relegation playoffs in div1 .

But they have a final game against Liatroim where they would have to field (as discussed on this thread you can't not field twice!!!) and a victory there would doom An Riocht to automatic relegation. Whereas a victory for Leitrim would force them into play-offs, I think it would be fair to say Liatroim might roll over!! No slant on Liatroim, it's just the logical thing to do!

i think the bridge will field but saval won't field a strong team because if they beat the bridge that would drag themselves into relegation play-offs. Are ballyholland already down and have the kingdom no games left therefor hopeing for play-offs?

Great result of St Johns last night. It was much easier than we had expected. We didn't play that well on the night and should have won by much more. But as least we have got a win in Ulster which is more than can be said for other Down clubs. For those who don't know the scoe was Jonnies 2-13 Coa 2-7. Up the jonnies!!
