I would have to agree with you mandown there must be a lot of boys not getting footy which would call into question their strength in depth, might be a lot of duds on the panel or maybe medal hunters tagging on for glory. Based on that I would have to say they will seriously struggle with Div 3 next year, its not a great div but it is tough, with no respite as we've found to our cost this year! Has anyone actually lodged an appeal against them or is it up to the county board to notice the discrepancy etc? WestDownGael (Down) - Posts: 207 - 29/10/2008 17:05:31 129087 Link 0 |
common sense has to come into play here, if st.johns are to be excluded then the same has to be said of 3 teams in div.3 and 1 in div2. this would mean that the div.3 play-offs would be a non starter for at least another 2 weeks, and seeing as they are already in full flight, this is very unlikely to happen. theweetopper (Down) - Posts: 20 - 29/10/2008 17:44:28 129140 Link 0 |
Well the lads at Aughlisnafin are just happy getting football and am sure would welcome any disgruntled St Johns players with open arms as many of them actually live in The Finn parish!! I don't think anyone has to lodge an appeal as it is up to the county board to act on any breach of the rules. I can only imagine the brush will be out and the carpet lifted!!! The behaviour of the committee and management of St Johns certainly has diluted much of the sympathy many in the county may have had for them. did they play a friendly on the same day?? dj27legend (Down) - Posts: 641 - 29/10/2008 17:46:07 129143 Link 0 |
Well mandown i think you and the rest of the finn players should keep your nose out of St Johns affairs and consentrate on winning a match for a change. From what i can see there is a lot of people on here jealous of St Johns success this season. And we haven't finished yet!!!! Bigbadjonnie (Down) - Posts: 10 - 29/10/2008 18:05:53 129163 Link 0 |
jealous of what? not fielding in two matches! which in the rule book spells expulsion from all county. will Bright be the down rep in this years ulster club. if things are done by the book they will be, but we all know what a mess of a county board we have. newryview (Down) - Posts: 748 - 29/10/2008 23:42:18 129408 Link 0 |

i have heard that mayobridge will not be fielding tommorrow against saval, thus leaving relegation playoffs in div1 . downbutnotout (None) - Posts: 22 - 31/10/2008 16:30:14 131129 Link 0 |
But they have a final game against Liatroim where they would have to field (as discussed on this thread you can't not field twice!!!) and a victory there would doom An Riocht to automatic relegation. Whereas a victory for Leitrim would force them into play-offs, I think it would be fair to say Liatroim might roll over!! No slant on Liatroim, it's just the logical thing to do! i think the bridge will field but saval won't field a strong team because if they beat the bridge that would drag themselves into relegation play-offs. Are ballyholland already down and have the kingdom no games left therefor hopeing for play-offs? down gaa (Down) - Posts: 119 - 31/10/2008 17:49:52 131195 Link 0 |
Great result of St Johns last night. It was much easier than we had expected. We didn't play that well on the night and should have won by much more. But as least we have got a win in Ulster which is more than can be said for other Down clubs. For those who don't know the scoe was Jonnies 2-13 Coa 2-7. Up the jonnies!!
