By Jasus I don't know what to make of this reply. One might say that your reply was a typical Piers Morgan reply when Arsenal lose.

A lot of the people on here need to grow up - arguing like children. It's not even banter, just complete nonsense. gwanyagudthing (Meath) - Posts: 194 - 01/06/2026 14:57:17 2677029 Link 3 |

A bit like Oisin Mullin and Kobe...

So you know for definite that Fitzgerald would be starting in fullback? Didn't know you were Padraig Joyce or that he uses this app! If appearances decided who's going to start then why wasn't Cillian O'Connor in for Darragh Beirne or Kobe or Rob Hennelly in for Jack Livingston? Matthew Thompson is doing his college erasmus, God help he has an education, Peter Cooke isn't playing this year because of his work commitments would clash with it so he chose work for the year, not the first time it's happened. Sean Fitzgerald and Tomo Culhane obviously discussed their involvement with the team this year with Padraig Joyce and its quite clear that Joyce said that they wouldn't get as much minutes as they'd have liked and now Sean Fitzgerald has gone to Love Island and Tomo Culhane trying his hand at AFL. It doesn't mean that they don't rate Galway's chances of winning. Sounds like you want to begrudge Matthew Thompson his education, Peterborough Cooke of his livelihood and Sean Fitzgerald and Tomo Culhane opportunities for money income. Odd behaviour to do that. As per usual, a very weak reply

Yes, utter nonsense in hindsight.

I was actually beating on that drum of a warning. Still flawed though that that situation is occurring. Knockout playoffs to qualify for the All Ireland would sort that out.

Knockout playoffs called the backdoor were there previous but people weren't happy with that either? I thought it was a good and fair system to be honest.

One more chance is grand. Current structure is laughable. Totally meaningless games until musical chairs ends in 8.

They actually scored the same :-) Not complaining though, we made our own downfall in the first half. farneygael (Monaghan) - Posts: 344 - 01/06/2026 20:39:57 2677126 Link 0 |

Galway people have said Fitzgerald is your best fullback. You can't compare O'connor to Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is in his prime. I heard Thompson didn't have to go to the States. I'm sure Cooke could have got a job here if he really wanted to play for Galway. It's not clear at all that Joyce said that to them. If they thought there was a real chance of an all Ireland medal they would have stayed. Best of luck to them Cumann1 (Mayo) - Posts: 155 - 01/06/2026 20:50:22 2677128 Link 0 |

No, what you said above was utter nonsense. Apart from Donegal it was the hardest possible draw for us to be paired with Tyrone who reached the All-Ireland semi-final last year and pushed Armagh all the way in their previous game. Also it was well known about the unbeaten championship record Tyrone have in Hyde park. No hindsight was needed to know all of that. I didn't like it when it started but changed my mind. Gave some so-called weaker counties a nice run of Championship games. Unfortunately they couldn't consistently sustain that level over a few years.

Stop. Kerry will win handy. Likely to get easy game home to Dubs or Cavan.

The biggest issue with that system was for players - never knowing at start of year whether you'd be off for 4-6 weeks after provincial final or in back door. Back door rounds were also almost never televised, and many counties out in early April/may after just 2 games. New system is much better in that line, at star of year all players know exactly what weekends they'll be playing, with obviously one extra if they are in prelim qfs. Also everyone gets minimum 3 championship games now, with most counties getting more. I think next step would be more structure in all Ireland series. Not a fan of the open draw if it's only done a couple of weeks before. Why couldn't it have been drawn like all the other big tournaments, ie Munster winner plays Highest league qualifier etc, and then instead of waiting for all matches to be complete, do the round 2 and 3 draws as placeholders in advance also. More structure leads to better planning. systematic (Galway) - Posts: 323 - 02/06/2026 08:12:56 2677160 Link 0 |

Hardly meaningless Barney. Monaghan's very tight loss yesterday now means a do or die match with Roscommon. That could go either way. The loser is out, after both came very close to winning their round 1 matches. Tight margins in a lot of cases. I have to say the championship has been brilliant so far. There's no perfect system, but the combination of the new rules and format have made it very exciting. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2893 - 02/06/2026 08:59:49 2677170 Link 0 |
