Replying To Afinestick96: "Hurling 365 is a vital initiative and we need buy in across the board from clubs, schools, coaches , teachers etc. Just on the club championship was hoping to go to all the senior and intermediate semi finals. The Senior is fixed as a double header Sunday week . I would have thought the intermediate would be the same but the James' and Cloughbawn fixture is faced for New Ross Saturday week while the other semi is fixed for Wexford Park the same evening." I happen to know the Camogie Senior & Intermediate Finals are fixed for Wexford Park on the Saturday afternoon of that weekend. And that if weather looks like it wouldn't allow three matches on the one day, their Intermediate Final is to move, so that the Intermediate Hurling semi-final can go ahead in the evening.
Would presume that if it wasn't for the Camogie, the Intermediate Hurling semi-finals would have been the usual double-header on the Saturday.
Would also presume that in light of all that's going on, if Camogie came looking for Wexford Park for their finals but were told "no, we're going to use it for men's matches, despite the fact that we could fix those men's matches some other way and let you have it anyway", it would have opened a real can of worms.

Can you just half agree its probably down to coaching and commitment more than anything else. And the same goes with most teams that are above average." Absolutely Ill half agree with that. Nurture is probably more important than nature even. Id go good coaching/parenting/commitment is probably more than 50% the reason a good team is good. Hopefully most of those lads who played in that game last week will stay playing, practicing and improving and make good club adult players. And even more hopefully for me, as Im not in either of those 2 clubs, the very best of them make good long term intercounty hurlers in the future ;-)

Well, it could be down to coaching and commitment but you still get some years where you get a golden generation, I think that Monageer group are supposed to be a good bit ahead of the the teams that came before them and the teams that are behind them

It's better than what's going on in Clare anyway, Conor Cleary was supposed to play a county hurling final at the exact same time his wife was supposed to play a county football final, they changed it up so her match was just over two hours before but in a venue that was about an hour away so it's still unlikely that a lot of people could attend both finals

I know the CCCC have one of the toughest roles out there with regards to organising games / fixtures / referees but I find it hard to fathom why both Gorey and Rathnure's second string have to play their semi final on Sunday at 11.30am and 12pm respectively and then quite a few of those players rush to Wexford Park to tog out with their Senior squads - Why couldn't these games be played on Saturday and maybe swapped with the Junior A games.

LGFA here have their corresponding Senior & Intermediate Finals this coming Saturday, so as not to clash with the men's Senior semi-finals on Sunday. And as already shown, Camogie here have their main two finals on a Saturday as well, so as not to clash with the Senior Hurling semi-finals.
Don't understand why Clare LGFA either didn't fix their finals for the Saturday in the first place, or else move them to the Saturday now. They'd even have the option of putting them back a week, although that wouldn't be ideal, because then their winners would only have a week off before having to play in the Munster Championship that follows, instead of having a two-week break.

That seems a strange one on the face of it all right, and I don't know the explanation, but I do know there tends to always be a good reason for such things.
Just speculating here, but could even be that the clubs requested it that way, for the sake of co-ordinating training schedules. If both teams playing on Sunday, they could train together maybe Monday/Wednesday/Friday. But if Juniors were playing Saturday instead, probably at least one evening would have to be different.
The Gorey situation is further complicated by how their third team also has a semi-final that weekend. But overall, I really don't know.

Hi Folks,
Barndarrig GAA club in Wicklow, on the N11, are looking for expressions of interest from coaches in who would be interested in chatting to us in relation to a role as our intermediate hurling manager for next year.
All levels of experience considered. We are looking for someone from outside the county to come in and freshen things up, we have some talented young hurlers coming through over the next few years and would love to have a good environment in place for them to come into at adult level to progress their hurling and hopefully progress towards an intermediate title.
In a Dublin sense - the level we are talking is a Junior A or Junior B team.
If interested or if you have any further questions please fire an email to ']
Thanks a million, beir bua

Will be interesting to see if Martins, Cloughbawn and Davidstown get serious momentum after qualifying for football finals over the weekend or will the weekend off leave the other teams in a better position and fresh.

I got hardly any of the football right, to be fair there were sonme big surprises. Hopefully teh hurling wil be better.
Senior: Naomh Eanna V Shels -> I think the Shels are coming along nicely, under the radar as such, Gorey probably being honest lucky to be in a semi, youd fancy the Shels.
St Martins V Rathnure -> Have a funny feeling this will be Rathnures year. Think they will have learned alot from last year, Martins will still be strong but they arent as strong as last year.
Intermediate: St James V Cloughbawn -> James always only come good around the quartyer final stage in hurling. Cloughabwn have been pretty flawless all year bar the Blackwater defeat. Thin k Clough should have just enough here.
Askamore V Davidstown -> Davidstown are on a bit of a high with football and hurling. Askamore just got over the line against Blackwater, think there forwards will be too powerful here.
Intermediate A: Gusserane V Oulart -> Guesserane have been favourites all year, and now that they are out of the football youd have to fancy them to get over the line.
Shels V Adamstown -> Shels beating Rathgarogue was a bit of a surprise, I would fancy Adamstown though to win.
Junior: Ballygarret V Rathnure -> Rathnure St Pats V Naomh Eanna -> St Pats
Junior A: Bannow V Harriers -> Harriers Fintans V Our Ladies Island -> Fintans

A lot of U12 hurling finals this week too .. called 'development leagues' as they are meant to be non competitive! .. Blackwater face Rathnure in the Div1 final tomorrow evening in Wexford Park .. Two very skillful, well coached teams and both have entered and done very well in lots of tournaments in Kilkenny / Waterford / Tipperary / Dublin during the Summer. It is always a good indication of where teams are when they go outside the county.
Naomh Eanna also have a very good U12 team .. Buffers Alley too .. Lot of work going in there. However after those top 5/6 teams the standard is slightly concerning.
Blackwater have already won the Div 1 U12 football final after beating Naomh Eanna in a replay and the did beat Rathnure already in the League stage - so they do have the stronger team

Blackwater have already won the Div 1 U12 football final after beating Naomh Eanna in a replay and the did beat Rathnure already in the League stage - so they do have the stronger team" This is a technical point, but it's not actually the case that U12 games are supposed to be non-competitive. It's a common misconception all right, not helped by how one newspaper wrongly said so in a report three years ago about a clampdown on competitive games for younger groups, and how other papers than ran with the same thing.
It's the case in camogie and LGFA all right that up to and including U12 is Go Games, but the GAA rule then and still the rule now is: Games in the Under 11 and younger age grades shall be organised on the 'Go Games' model, as approved by Central Council. Games in the Under 12 and Under 13 age grades shall be organised on a league basis, as approved by Central Council.
So basically, it's okay to run a league at U12 - i.e. round-robin games, keep a record of scores, compile tables, and proceed to playoff matches afterwards. This is why we have things called "U12 Development League Div. 1A Final" and "U12 Development League Div. 1B Final" rather than "U12 Championship Cup Final" and "U12 Championship Shield Final".
To be honest, calling it a league or a championship makes no difference to how it's actually run, but the key point is it's not the case that you can't run actual competitions in U12 hurling or football.

They are not allowed present cups either - so it's small wooden trophies. Scores are never published on Wexford GAA websites. In theory it is to setup teams for U14 so they know where to grade them

You used to be able to look back at results from previous years too, but all that information appears to be lost forever now.

But it must be reading the match results from somewhere in order to be able to compile the tables.
Actually asked about it earlier this year as am involved with an U12 team myself. Was told it's some sort of technical quirk that nobody could figure out, rather than being a deliberate policy decision not to publish U12 scorelines. They used to be published on the previous version of the website, and they're still visible in the Foireann app as well, but only for your own club.
As regards the sort of trophies presented - I don't think there's any actual rule on that. Probably more the case of a budgetary decision!!

@Viking66 - I happen to know the man who looks after the website and social media end of things, and get a lot of information from him. As an aside, I've sometimes got the impression that you even think I'm that person myself!
Anyway, asked him about this earlier in the year. Turns out that all the info on the results/fixtures/tables section of the website is pulled in from a central system in Croke Park. It's not the case, as I and probably many others would have assumed, that somebody in Wexford inputs all the details directly to the Wexford GAA site.
Instead, they create the various competitions on the Croke Park system and put in fixtures details there. Referees have a way of submitting results directly to that system after each match, and the system itself then updates the tables, etc.
Seems Croke Park changed their system last winter from whatever they used before to a new one built on Foireann. The software Wexford had for pulling in the data from the old one wouldn't work the new one, and getting something new written to replicate how the Wexford side always worked and looked would have cost tonnes of money, so they instead went with that system we have now and which about 20 other counties were already using.
I got the distinct impression they weren't exactly 100% happy with it themselves, but I suppose the main point is looks like the change was forced on them, rather than being a deliberate decision to move to something they thought would be "better".

That man, who may or may not be you, Monageer and Ferns not being a huge distance apart ;-),told me similar. Many referees likewise. Many clubs around the country also use the system we now have, Martins being the nearest to me! It doesn't mean any of us have to like it though!!!!!
