As other posters have rightly pointed out, I too have big concerns about our back six. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 624 - 04/03/2026 07:48:23 2659860 Link 0 |

Yeah, League finals were a regular enough occurrence at the time. But now we haven't even been in one since 1993. (am referring to the top tier finals only. Not counting the couple of Div. 2 Finals we played around 15 years ago). Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3380 - 04/03/2026 12:07:41 2659901 Link 0 |

Reading into it, i guess this is Chin easing out of the team, last year perhaps? I know being Captain is not like say in Rugby but Jack has been inconsistent over the last few years. Hopefully the club championship will provide the springboard to that consistency and he has a great year as Captain. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 2178 - 04/03/2026 12:17:44 2659904 Link 0 |

6 weeks minimum pre season before competitive games.

Meehan, Stritch and Mcmahon are likely starters come championship at this stage. Just because well known players arent starting in Ennis, if even they arent starting, doesn't mean Clare will be weaker.

If you want to be winning Championships, you realistically need to be winning Leagues too, never really get the argument that a team is a Championship team and not a League team, the best teams tend to be very competitive in both

I dunno, could look at it another way and say they know that Chin will probably provide leadership either wah and they're hoping that Jacko having the responsibility of the captaincy will drive him to bring his club form into the pitch for Wexford Funny thing is though I'm not sure he's a guaranteed starter this year? Is it me or is 6 weeks collective training with the team before a competitive game not excessive? Most players now club and county are tipping away with running and gym programs during the winter. I know most clubs are only back collective training in February and first round of football league was the last weekend of February. I think It should be case by case basis with players when they are ready to return to play. I would agree with really making sure Jippo and Cian Molloy are fully right before we play them given Jippo's injury history and Cians bad concussion. I really hope its not Lee's last year. I am also hoping that Jack being captain with entice Rory to come back for Championship to help his brother!

Would be strange to have your captain sitting on the bench. Of course if he's not playing well then the dug out is the only option.

Surely Viking the loss of Tony Kelly is a big loss. Any team would give their right arm to have him on their team. Have Clare got anyone as good or nearly as good as him? I don't think so. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 624 - 04/03/2026 13:11:52 2659925 Link 0 |

Tony Kelly is one of the best players of all time in my opinion. If he was from Kilkenny , Cork or Tipp that's the bracket people would be putting him in. He would be a huge loss for any team. That goal that he scored in the 2024 All Ireland final was incredible there's not many players that can do that he is one .

Id say its to lessen the burden on Chin, he's 33 and doesn't need the extra pressure of being captain and frees. This year he has none of those pressures. By the way just having him on the field is enough, doesn't matter who is designated captain or not. WEXILE (Wexford) - Posts: 467 - 04/03/2026 14:17:29 2659949 Link 0 |

Clare really struggled without a fully fit Tony Kelly in Munster last year. They will need a fully fit Kelly and O'Donnell to have any chance in championship this year. Think Lohan will be taking this league game very seriously expecting some new players to step up to the mark. Like ourselves struggling to find a 6 it looks like.

Wouldnt be like Wexford to beat Clare and lose to Kildare! Kildare gave Clare plenty of it in Newbridge it looks like. Anyway, good test ahead in Ennis

Tbh I dont know if its excessive or not, but it would be on the low side compared to most professional team sports.

Kelly would be a huge loss, but of the lads named hes the most likely to play along with Conlon. The 3 other lads I named might start cornerback, wing forward and midfield come Championship, if they start at all. All 3 will have another chance to impress in Ennis Id be guessing. None of the lads will be starting instead of Kelly unless hes injured. Or Conlon for that matter, although Conlon is the least likely Championship starter of the 4 lads named there. Kelly, Duggan and O'Donnell will all be starting, even if only on one leg. But would a manager risk any of the 4 for a dead rubber game if they arent 100% right? Im pretty sure Lohan won't. Kelly and Conlon will likely be fit for the weekend though.
