10-17 to 0-10. Not sure if the Mullingar lads were missing many players."
Think their Senior A footballers were out yesterday, don't know how much that would have impacted their Junior A hurlers though

Replying To Viking66:  "Only a subjective opinion obviously-
-Oisin Foley seemed to be carrying Crossabeg on his back
-Joe Barrett composed as usual
-Conor Firman reads the game so well
-Conal Flood knee seems to be holding up well
-Cathal Doyle only played one game as he was injured but scored 2-11 in the relegation final
-Charlie Mooney moves and hurls well for a lad his size
-Daire Barden back from Oz and improved game on game
-Jim White solid at the back for Oylegate
-Michael Dundon stood out in all the Clongeen games I saw this year.
-Seanie O'Neill seems to have found another gear since the knockouts started
-Oisin Hayes workrate massively improved over the last year and good on frees
-Tomas O'Connor settling in well after his move up from Kerry
-Barry Hassey inspirational big lad
-David Dunne different gravy at Intermediate

Saying all that doesn't mean they would neccessarily succeed at intercounty, or even want to play intercounty at all.

Some of the lads who stood out to me for their age would be u20s next year, Oisin Moore, Colin Carley, Jamie Kennedy, Ryan Doran, Conor Fanning, Sean Hyland, Ian Reilly."
Gavin Sheehan must have 12 Goals scored by now and has created 25 at least. Scored 1 v Oulart and made 4 while in earlier rounds scored 4 against same opponent. How would he go with Barry O Connor and Cian Byrne in Wexfords full forward line this year??? Obviously know it won't happen but it would be tasty…

And in any case if you are wanting a Gusserane intercounty footballer to go intercounty hurling Mark Rossiter would be more likely to make it than Gavin Sheehan. And thats not meant as any sort of insult to Sheehan.

Well I would have to disagree. Gavin played Full Back on Minor Hurling team, He had made the Wexford Senior Football Squad at 19 and Football Manager of the day wouldn't release him to play U-21 Hurling with Wexford. His Pace is the Factor- Couldn't see many to match him over a 60 or 100 Meter Sprint from say last year's Hurling or Football Squad. Mark Rossiter too is a very good hurler but doesn't have the speed of Gavin Sheehan….You could play him as a wing back, Midfielder, half Forward, FF or Corner. Has a very serious hand.

Agree on all that, hes a good hurler. Also has size, pace and plenty of dog. But Mark is a better hurler. And isnt small or slow either.

I know this is totally contraversial and not what 90% of people in Wexford want to hear but in terms of performance on a national level it would be fair to say the the Wexford footballers are outperforming the hurlers currently. If the footballers were to maintain Div. 2 status this year it would definitely outrank anything which I feel the hurlers are likely to achieve. With that in mind i wonder if there are any dual capable players that might be likely to switch codes to Football in 2027. I'm bemused when I see the thoughts of Sheehan and Rossiter potentially playing Hurling. What would the football team be like if Liam Ryan, Kevin Foley, Simon Donohoe, Conor Devitt and the likes were to give football a go for the year!! I'm sure there are good younger men on the Hurling panel that could be added to the list too.

Conor Devitt hasn't been with the Wexford hurlers for a few years now, Kevin Foley wouldn't be up to that level as a footballer, Liam Ryan has probably played his last game for the Wexford hurlers and there'd be next to chance of him coming back for the footballers, he's just had so many injuries down through the years

Maybe Donohoe, has played for the footballers before

Kevin's an excellent Footballer. Oisin Pepper was decent too for Starlights, as was Ryan Donohue. Sean Hyland too. All have hurled county for their age group in the recent past. Might make county standard Footballers if they really put the effort in at Football, though I think they all prefer hurling.
Philip Dempsey is a good Footballer. Rory O'Connor is a great Footballer. Lee Chin too, but maybe not mobile enough for intercounty Football any more.
Colin Carley, Ronan Shannon and Doran Daly O'Toole might make good intercounty Footballers also. All hurled for our u20s this year. Colum Fitzgerald hurled u20 and is a good Footballer also. Cian Byrne and Eoin Whelan both good at it too, and both kicked 2 pointers for Fethard this year.
Vincent Higgins was with the u20 hurlers this year, and Padraig Jones was one of the best players on our u20 hurling team last year. Both played well for Kilanerin, Higgins was the supersub!

I think for the first time in a while the footballers are in a stronger position. In that they are playing to their potential and there's a lot of positivity around them amazing what successive promotions can do . Sayjng that the tailteann cup was disappointing.
Can't see too many of he footballers switching camps now . U could see it the opposite way .
Barry has thrown his lot in with the hurlers pity as he could ve added something to the footballers.
Just shows hiw thin on the ground we are for good athletes as hurlers .
Hopefully some younger players will come in to hurling squad and improve competition ,intensity and a new more positive attitude with a hunger for succes and improvement.

The days of switching are over once you are established - lads make their minds up and back themselves, they then have the club championship to enjoy still playing the other code. What playing in Div 2 will do (and hopefully the All Ireland Series) is give 16yr olds a harder decision to make. Of course some would see that as a negative for hurling but I see it as a positive for both. Players should pick based on what they are best suited to play not what the glory is in, kids going down the wrong path and getting disillusioned is a greater negative.

Starting the mind games early? :)

The footballers are really coming on, and it's a much easier gap to close generally with the skill level being so much lower.

However I don't agree. I think if the hurlers will get the most attention, and if they can get promoted and find another couple of players it will be a good year.

After that I still think we can finish third in Leinster but it's going to be very fine margins this year.

Tbf, biggest issue here isn't football vs hurling but really that there isn't enough football AND hurling done in this county

Fully agree I support both hurling and football teams but hurling is still no.1 in Wexford in the eyes of most. Just look at the attendances for hurling club games through all adult grades I think it would out number football at least 2 or 3 to 1. I will be there to support the footballers in DIV 2 but if I was a player being asked into both hurling and football squads I would definitely still choose the hurling. I think we could get a bounce off Derek Mcgrath's first year in charge. We should have been promoted last year left the Dublin game behind us and had a goal chance to nick a draw in Clare and I think we are very capable of competing in Leinster and as you said we definitely are capable of finishing 3rd.

Its a big problem in the main towns lads committing to soccer rather than GAA. Not so much rural areas I know where Im from and neighbouring parishes lads play GAA and not that many play soccer. We have to figure out a way to keep lads hurling in the big towns. Hurling is really struggling in Enniscorthy and New Ross in particular and I think its probably not in the best place in Wexford Town either

If you were trying to promote the GAA to kids and their parents in towns - what would you lead with? Hurling or Football?
