Any of the Bors ever play for Longford?
I found the map very interesting, other that the village itself I didn't know Leitrim Gaels had a catchment area as such, that if you lived in the Kiltoghert parish you had a choice of the Gaels or Marys..

He's a great player, his parents or some other members of his family must've been a big influence on his hurling at a young age. It's very rare for someone to get that good coming from a non gaa background. If they were Limerick people I'm sure he'd of hurled for Limerick."
I think his Dad hurled for Charleville, and in fairness the Charleville GAA grounds are far closer to where he lives than Kilmallock, Bruree, or Castletown Ballyagran club grounds so of course he plays for Cork (much as we would love him in Limerick).

Think any county would be delighted to have him play for them.

Seamus Flynn who was a legend of the 1960's for Longford and Clonguish was from Bornacoola. The late great Bertie Allen was responsible for getting him and his brothers across the divide to play their football in Longford.

Laois won a Leinster SFC in 1937 with five players from county Carlow on the starting 15: Martin Farrell, Jim Slater, Tommy Murphy, Mick Haughney and Jack McDarby.

The reason they were playing in Laois was that Carlow had suspended their club- Graiguecullen-eleven years earlier after a man was killed during a county final against Milford.

Ironically, Carlow had won the Leinster Junior in 1923, with six Graiguecullen players on the starting team. Including the captain Barney Hennessy (who had also won it in 1913). In those days there were only six senior teams in Leinster, so the junior was a sort of partial early version of the Tailteann Cup.

Tommy Murphy's grandson (Jody Morrissey) and great-grandson (Jordan Morrissey) would go on to be important players for Carlow. But they played for Eire Og, not Graiguecullen.

Open to correction but he played handball (probably still does) for Kingscourt which allowed him play for Cavan. Or was one of the reasons anyway.

Nice piece of history there.

That's interesting Carps. When did graiguecullen
" move" to Laois ? Or were the County boundaries changed at some stage ?

I remember there was something about a player from Cross that had ties with Monaghan or vice versa? Maybe in the last ten years? Don't think he plays for Cross anymore.

Transferred from Nobber but he went to school and had family playing for Kingscourt as well so don't think it was too controversial a move."
If Jordan Morris is a Cavan man, plays club football in Cavan and is now a Cavan senior championship medal holder on what grounds can he declare for Meath ?

His father Gary won a Senior title with Kingscourt, his grandfather was a chairman of the club. His father moved to Nobber when Jordan was a child, and he represented Meath from u14 upwards. So he said he won't play for Cavan.
Not really that complicated. There was an article in the Indo about him.

Is the gf/wife from there? His father was from Ballymacugh and could have switched to them

Replying To babyguinness:  "Been looking at clubs like Ballaghaderreen which is in Roscommon (but the club and parish are in Mayo) so players like Andy Moran play for Mayo. Wondering if that works out the same way for these clubs that seem to straddle two counties? Anyone know players from one county but ended up having to play for another county? or do they have to option to represent the county the feel connected to?

Ballydesmond plays in Cork but half the parish is in Kerry
Moneygall, part of Tipp GAA, majority of parish is in Offaly
Creggs, part of Roscommon, town, school, pitch all in Galway
St Croan's in Roscommon but takes in all of Ballymoe in Galway, a decent sized village
Carrig-Riverstown across from Birr in Tipperary, plays in Offaly
Galmoy, Ballyragget, Lisdowney parishes all etch into Laois
Ballinderry and Drummullan in Derry are right on the Tyrone border
St Mullins Parish in Carlow takes in a bit of Wexford
The whole area of North Antrim around Bushmills seems to be closer to Eoghan Rua in Coleraine Derry than other Antrim clubs

On the Roscommon theme, quite a bit of Galway influence in our clubs along with Creggs and St Croans.
A good portion of Ballyforan once you cross the bridge over the Suck is in County Galway and they proudly represent St Aidans in Football and Four Roads in hurling. Bits of Athleague also in Co Galway.
Very fluid situation with Creagh on the edge of Ballinasloe ( mostly caused by rapacious hands of Galway County Council) but most turn out for the Roscommon Padraig Pearses.

Shinrone? In Offaly championship but lads living in Tipp???

Babs famously said that Offaly learned to hurl by looking over the ditch into Tipp.

Shinrone be the ditch
