A pretty well known story. Strange how a man who likes to think of themselves as being all knowing wouldn't know about it....

Shouldnt you stay off the Dublin page and relocate yourself to the kerry page a bit more.

Focus on your own county and dont interfere in things that dont concern you....

You clearly lose sleep thinking about us.... awwwh.... shucks...

Replying To oneoff:  "I think Kerry only had 15 that day. Some were traveling by car and it broke down I think. I think Kerry had a journalist with was reporting on the game in goal."
As Canuck said above, there are all sorts of stories about it. With the one you mention - think it was actually the case that they only had the bare 15 players, and The Kerryman reporter there was asked to tog off as a sub in case he was needed, but he ended up not actually being needed.

Not so sure about the suggestion that some simply detoured to the beach at Tramore for the day, but another story is that some of the Kerry squad who were supposed to travel (and remember this would only have been 18 to 20 players at the time) refused to travel due to some row over the team captaincy or that year's club championship. Also that they didn't tell anybody they wouldn't be travelling, so first the Kerry side knew of it was when they simply didn't turn up on the day.

Mad that you're still sore about losing a game 70 years ago. Yis lost, Waterford won. There's till time to be gracious in defeat

2003 Laois beating Dublin in Leinster Semi Final for me. Laois had lost to Meath by 11 points in 2002. Dublin had strolled through Leinster and lost by a point to eventual champions Armagh ( with Ray Cosgrove's late free hitting the post ). Then in 2003, Laois had struggled past Offaly in a replay. Dublin meanwhile beat Louth by 13 points and I can recall Colm O Rourke saying that Dublin had moved onto another level. But in the semi final Micko worked his magic. Yes it was a very good Laois team, but on the day it was a seismic result.

What are you talking about? How is pointing out what happened being "sore"?

Who's us?

You're the one who's clearly losing sleep over things seeing as you've gone out of your way to follow me into this thread are you not?

Funny coming from you to call someone else a WUM.

Funnier still the accounts you're talking about here are clearly just you talking to yourself.

Meath beating Dublin is never a shock, nor should ever be considered one, no matter how bad Meath ever are. Should always be expected. Meath in recent years forgot that, but at the weekend got reminded of that, and normal service resumed.

Meath are one of footballs traditional heavyweights, and people are talking like they are minnow's after beating Dublin. A big team beating another big team is never a huge upset, regardless of how far one falls.

Bit annoying watching some Meath fans go over the top celebrating , should be par for the course

And I thought kerryman jokes are funny - you should be on the stage.
You have missed your vocation.

Ok enough time wasted on you.

Meath weren't massively impressive in Leinster, falling over the line against Westmeath in the 1/4 final, and even the year before in 2000 Meath were knocked out in the first round by Kildare, with Kerry going on to win the All Ireland. So I don't think they were that fancied.

But I distinctly remember Kerry being fairly hot favourites, few saw a Meath win, never mind the hammering it was. 2-14 to 0-5 was a trouncing in 2001 times, you rarely saw big victories like that, especially in the latter stages of the competition. Of course they couldn't finish the job and Galway were far too good in the final.

There's loads to choose from: Laois beating Dublin in the Leinster final 2003 has to be one too, Sligo beating Galway to win Connacht in 2007. Or even Donegal's heist against Dublin 2014.

We've had less and less shocks in recent years because the game has been played in a way that allows teams to mitigate risk, but the new rules have brough and element of the games of old back into it. If you are brave enough and beat your man, you will be rewarded."
Didn't Offaly beat us in Leinster that year, not Kildare? That game more famous for the forgotten jersey Meath wore. Wore the 99 jersey during the league, and introduced the new jersey for the first match in the championship. We lost and it never went on sale, and had a new jersey the following year!

Why do you keep replying to me then?

Maybe you should actually comment on the subject? Then again seeing as you likely never actually seen a game before 2010 you'd likely know nothing about it.

Yeah Offaly beat Meath in 2000. Offaly also beat Meath in 1997. Both times the Royals were All Ireland Champions. Offaly a bit of a bogey team to Meath back then.

1957 All Ireland final between Louth and Cork. The greatest day in the Wee County history. It was the first ever Championship meeting between the biggest county in Ireland against the smallest county. Cork were hot favourites as the previous year they reached the final and Galway beat them. With the colour clash Louth wore green the Leinster colours and Cork wore blue the Munster colours. The only person who wore red was the ref. Louth won on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-07. It was the first time in 45 years that Louth won the All Ireland. This is a record for the longest gaps between All Irelands. The great Dermot O Brien lifted Sam Maguire.

I remember a very big media build up to that game (Kerry were champions with Meath champions the year before, both teams had shared 4 All Irelands out of the previous 5 All Irelands).

Meath and Kerry was a shock in the way Germany hammering Brazil in a World cup semi final a few years ago was.
It wasn't that Kerry were beaten as Meath were regarded as strong, it was more that Kerry were hammered, it felt this should never happen to a Kerry team considering their unmatched tradition.

Limerick in hurling 1973 to 2018 is also 45 years!

Mullinalaghta beating Kilmacud Crokes in the Leinster club final 2018 had a miraculous feel to it.

Biased, but Div 3 Monaghan clipping the All Ireland champions Donegal Ulster final 2013 was totally unexpected.
Clare 1992 obviously too, and Tipp footballers in 2020.

But Leitrim 1994 is the best of all, a win to sustain hope over several lifetimes. Watch the Youtube footage- unreal.
