Leinster Hurling Championship

Replying To Viking66:  "Why must the best 10 or 11 teams be in the All Ireland series? That never happened before. There used to be 3 or 4 counties in the AI series, depending on year. That was expanded to 6 in 1997. Then 8 to accommodate the Joe Mac finalists when Leinster was shrunk so many hurling counties in Leinster couldnt participate in their own championship. Now you want to expand it to 10 or 11? Sure let's get a heap of Liam McCarthy trophies made, 32 or 34 or 36, and give them to everyone."
But it is okay to jump from team 6 to team 11 for qualifying ? Yes there were a a lot less when the championship was a straight knockout but that all changed and what ever format is now used should involve the best teams. That does not mean Wexford, Waterford, Clare would be any further than now but if you are not in you can't win. Let alone the out cry if the game between Limerick and Clare decided 3rd place last week. Limerick putting out a shadow team as nothing at stake for them.

Replying To bloodandbandage:  "Completely disagree with you Canuck. Waterford are guaranteed 4 championship games every year with the current system, can you point to any time in the past when your hurlers had this opportunity? Your now parroting Peter Queally, who wants to change the system just because Waterford are struggling to get out of Munster. It's up to Waterford, and Waterford only to ensure your hurling summer is extended. I do agree that there should be at least 2 weeks between games, and this would extend the RR into June. However, having 10 or 11 teams in an AI series would be a complete disaster. Where's the jeopardy? Where's the excitement if every hurling county is progressing? How many meaningless games would there be? Who would attend all these games? Come on lad, get a grip"
Peter Queally was asked a question and gave an opinion. If ye were not in the All-Ireland series consistently I guarantee you there would be no end to the arm twisting to change it.

Didn't they restructure the league after the competition was over for Cork once?

Replying To Past hurler:  "But why aren't Wexford improving?

Wexford need to look at why they win so few senior provincial titles in what is a 4 team race.

Wexford are very poor in Leinster at under 20 and minor too.

If they start there, they will surely get hurling into June and July."
Is it fair to say that if a team loses to another by less than 3 points, 1 point or 2 points, that they were pretty evenly matched? Our lads aged 22-28 appeared in 5 Leinster u20/1 finals in 7 years and didn't lose 4 of them by more than 2 points. No other Leinster county appeared in more than 3 U20/1 finals in that period, which Kilkenny and Galway did.
So I'm not sure your argument holds water. Our current Senior panels record at u20 compared to other Leinster counties is pretty good overall. As more of these lads mature and reach peak size/strength maybe we will do better at Senior.

Very poor at 20 and minor this season maybe. Not for the last 15 years.

I don't get what you are looking for now Canuck. Are you wanting Waterford to have more games? Or be hurling later in the year? Are you wanting everyone to qualify for the AI Series? Well all the so called top tier counties? That was never the way before. And usually some county or another is in bad form and wouldn't deserve to be in it.

We had some poor results ok. But we had some good ones too. Generally we don't beat Dublin at underage, especially minor. We beat them in both u20 and minor this year.
