Have Derry gone that bad from the roaded Mickey Harte? 7/1 today.

No shocks on this opening weekend so far. Moral victories for Waterford yesterday and Sligo today. Cork will be relieved that Mayo fended them off. Good to see some teams put up some fight anyway when faced with elimination from All Ireland qualification.
I think Clare are the only county so far who started the provincial championships outside the league qualifier spots and without the benefit of a lopsided draw but made the All Ireland. Clare beat Cork in the 2023 Munster quarter final and made an All Ireland spot available for the semi final winner of Clare v Limerick. It would have been robbery if Limerick had beaten Clare! Meath then were consigned to the Tailteann Cup.
Kildare or Westmeath versus Louth in a Leinster semi final could be the most likely opportunity this year for something similar. Cork had the buffer of Kildare and Meath below them when they lost to Clare. Louth have no buffer.

Isn't it crazy that teams qualify based on Prov results elsewhere - buffer or no buffer - it's nuts !

UCL are at it too - the 5th EPL will advance because of how other English teams performed this season - even those in the Conf League helping - Chelsea running up easy pts in the latter and shouldn't even be playing at that level.

ULSTER SFC QUARTER-FINALS
Antrim v Armagh ... Antrim won their battle against the Ulster council. Will be some shock if they win the battle on the park!
Tyrone v Cavan ... Both are probably through to the All Ireland. One of these games I'd like to see more jeopardy.
LEINSTER SFC QUARTER-FINALS
Kildare V Westmeath ... Setup to be a proper championship match. The winner will believe they can beat Louth or Laois to qualify for the All Ireland.
Louth V Laois ... Another proper championship match. Both have to win to stay on course for qualifying for the All Ireland. Louth favourites.
Meath v Offaly ... Offaly have to win if they are to claim an unlikely All Ireland place. Daunting task facing whoever gets through.
Wicklow v Dublin ... Some counties want something done about some of the heavy defeats that can be dished out in the early provincial rounds. Not entirely sure what they are looking for!

Yourself and the Kerry man have too much time on your hands.

Excellent summary of the week end fixtures, Thank you legendzxix:
I see that both RTE and BBC have live coverage of Tyrone/Cavan.
None of the four Leinster matches are live on TV

Massive win for Kildare. Sets them up for a shot at qualifying for the All Ireland. Westmeath and Antrim's All Ireland qualifying campaign is also over. Home advantage in Corrigan Park not enough for Antrim to cause a shock but they battled well going by reports.

They certainly did and some awful calls went against them.

Am I the only person on here who wants the 2 pointer gone?

No.
It should have gone with the 4 point goal.

Wicklow, Offaly (first half) and Laois seemed to have put in good performances from the match reports I've read but all three have been knocked out of All Ireland qualification.
I was watching Tyrone v Cavan. Cavan, like Derry last week, looked a little bit too comfortable in defeat knowing they can go away and get ready for the All Ireland series. If Derry and Cavan were looking at Offaly or Westmeath in a playoff, while both Ulster teams would be strong favourites, there would be an edge about a potential banana skin.
Louth v Kildare is an interesting semi final pairing. 14th v 16th in the league rankings. Proper knockout football. All Ireland qualification on the line.

A three tiered championship would do nicely to start levelling the playing field.

I agree. It totally distorts the scoring and will negatively affect the shape of the game long-term with the arc becoming the focus of play. It's crazy that no trials were run without the arc in order to monitor the effect of all the other changes.

If it turns out that the 2-points is not removed, then a goal has to be worth at least 4 points. It's being completely devalued at the moment.

I have came out against it from the very start… Just leave the scoring system alone.. 2 pointers are just distorting score lines and doing away completely with goal scoring chances… But you won't hear Marty questioning the 'sleep inducer' about it…!!!!!

It's interesting because Gavins purpose is obviously to force teams not to retreat into the box and overcrowd so that makes game more open.

The 2 pt free is a total joke imo and one unintended consequence I feel will be the large victories we are going to see. Double digit wins in championship will become the norm and on balance especially in provincials I think it will lead to less competitive games.

Yes a team that is nine behind could score a goal and a 2 pt in 60 seconds and come back into it but that will be exception rather than rule.

I think it's here now so we get on with it for a few seasons but if after three seasons, it's not working id revert.

A goal being worth 4 points would also help better sides inflict bigger winning margins imo. No fun seeing a div 1 side beat a lower team by 16 points plus.

It's hardly the aim of the game to save bad teams from big defeats??
If so then have graded Championships like at Club, Hurling, Camogie, Ladies football.
