Won't get that size of crowd for many of the upcoming All Ireland group stage or preliminary quarter final games but some people think the provincial championship is dead?

There is plenty opportunity to avoid playing games 6 days a part. The league is the league and the top teams win. Having these finals totally unnecessary. Two weeks could be picked up to start the championships earlier allowing time between games. No game should be closer than 13 days. This would still allow Saturday games. The tv stations take all the games or get none. The GAA show some respect in an aging population to those who can't go and supported them all their lives. Or the unavailable of tickets. This is like the charging of your kids to go to games. The rank and file needs to rain in these dictators.

Was a good game of Football. Close to the end. Some mistakes and plenty of turnovers added to the excitement, and there was a good pace to the game.

Just over 13k in Killarney for a game which was dead from the 10th minute on.

There will be plenty of big turn outs in the round robins, but also plenty of poorly attended games. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1382 - 06/05/2025 14:02:44 2607102 Link 0 |
Because those that attended knew that would be the case. For a Cork v Kerry final 20k would be the attendance. Leinster final should have the biggest attendance for a few years this Sunday and will be a big interest for neutrals. Ulster final a likely sell out and again will have good tv ratings. All in all not to shabby for provincials championships that are supposedly dead! Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 428 - 06/05/2025 16:00:21 2607154 Link 0 |
Some of the games. The old traditional neighbourly rivalries will always attract, especially if the teams are pretty good. Also away team supporters haven't too far too travel. Compared to our trek to Kerry in 2 weeks. Won't be many travelling. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2292 - 06/05/2025 17:01:06 2607171 Link 0 |

If Dublin v Derry is neutral then it won't be in Croke Park. Same nonsense every year ...

There would be far more at 1 hurling match… I wonder why…? Pure entertainment and excitement… something you will seldom if ever get at a football match…!

You're still beating the same drum. Seldom if ever, you say. You only have to go back the last match played, to find plenty entertainment and excitement in Castlebar last Sunday. It was a brilliant championship match. The new rules have undoubtedly had a big impact. Teams no longer able to easily play it short from kickouts and retain possession easily. The 3 up rule has also increased the amount of 1-on-1 defending we're seeing. Both big improvements. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2318 - 07/05/2025 22:37:17 2607476 Link 0 |
Yaaaawwwwwnnnnnn Munster is 5 hurling Counties and 1 football one. Not many spectators at Cavan hurling matches. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2292 - 07/05/2025 23:10:45 2607486 Link 0 |
The blabber mouths need to move down south and stick to hurling. We football people can manage well without them. They are so deluded they can't tell the difference between a game played with a small ball and a stick and a game where players kick a large ball. One is closer to ice hockey but less entertaining and the other is closer to soccer but more entertaining. Even in Cavan they are totally different games. The only reason Croker Park isn't used for "Neutral" matches involving Dublin is because even the Dubs won't go to see them anymore. If the GAA thought theyy could have a double header that got 40,000 paying fans, I would bet that Croker could be considered "Neutral" again tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1382 - 08/05/2025 06:38:06 2607508 Link 0 |

You have no proof of that, but sure that never stopped you before! If Dublin/Derry does turn out to be a do or die game for both to qualify - and it may very well - then you can be certain that wherever it is it will be 80% Dubs. Cavan I would say more likely although Clones be option, BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3512 - 08/05/2025 09:14:29 2607524 Link 1 |
