That's because you don't understand it! and I must say it's ironic that a Donegal man references boring when your own county was front and center in contributing to the absolute dross football had become!

What Jim done first time round was build a defence and train the complacency out of our boys in 2011, we were hardly playing bad football in 2012 or 2014, he has us playing great football again now. The 2011 thing was taken completely out of context mostly by people jealous of what he achieved, he took a team ranked 19th in Ireland and won 2 Ulsters and an All Ireland in his first 2 seasons, lesser managers copied and mostly failed with his approach with club and county, that's what really dragged football down. anyway Tyrone and others were playing blanket defence long before we did. I have tried to enjoy hurling but it just isn't enjoyable for me to watch, different strokes for different folks I suppose. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3139 - 28/03/2025 20:03:35 2599135 Link 4 |
That's fair enough. I feel the exact opposite.

We will just compare the attendance figures for the National hurling final to that of its football counterpart coupled with the atmosphere generated at both games and you will get the answer to which code is more popular… and the Championship hasn't even started yet…. Exactly that Tirchonaill1. Everyone's different! I'm lucky I enjoy both!

Are you saying you enjoyed last year's dire All Ireland football final more than the epic Hurling final..? You can't be serious… Your either delusional or in need of some medical attention…!

Maybe hurling people don't understand the sports they feel the need to put down to justify the "greatest game in the world" line.

Like Donal Ogs annual winge about how every hurling game isn't on live?

If there was a gold medal for whinging in the Olympics, Ireland would win it every single time. Ollie2 (Louth) - Posts: 1003 - 29/03/2025 11:10:08 2599193 Link 2 |
If there was an International Golden Globe award for Whinging, Politicians in Dail Eireann would win it in a land slide victory and it would be presented on the World stage by the Ceann Comhairle. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3142 - 29/03/2025 12:14:10 2599210 Link 1 |
The attendance for the 11 games in the Munster Hurling Championship 2024 was 320k. The attendance for the 29 games in all 4 provincial football championships combined in 2024 was 250k. Tells its own story Avondhu86 (Cork) - Posts: 13 - 29/03/2025 12:30:12 2599214 Link 2 |
An average hurling attendance of 29100 compared to an average attendance of 8600 for football really puts the entertainment argument firmly to bed … coupled with the fact that the hierarchy decided to radically change the rules of football to try and get the people back should confirm that football was in an almighty dire state except to those who are totally delusional..!

100% Besides that, for me, hurling is a better game to go to than football. Outside of Ulster there are very few provincial games of intense hardhitting football where counties are fully focussed and commited to try and win their provincial trophy. Many of them already guaranteed to be in an All Ireland. Nearly every game in the round robin in Munster hurling has some jeopardy based on the points to be won.

In my humble opinion, there are very few, if any, ballgames in the world to rival hurling. The Munster Championship has been electric in recent years.

That was more than justified. In the first five weeks of RTE's championship broadcasts that year they broadcast ten matches, nine of which were hurling and one of which was football. Hurling people have been whinging ever since.

The answer to which is more enjoyable is the numbers of young people playing each sport. QED. ORIELMAN85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 446 - 31/03/2025 00:06:44 2599592 Link 0 |
