Hi Lads just a forum to discuss bar the senior hurlers. Southsham (Limerick) - Posts: 752 - 10/03/2025 11:56:48 2595721 Link 0 |
Yeah, that U20 result was very disappointing against a county of similar standard. "Lifting the Treaty" was amazing for the hurlers but eventhough maybe not as well resourced, the Football Academy is dedicated to football and is going for over 10 years now, so it should be beginning to showing results, especially against the likes of Tipp & Clare, but we seem to be as far away as ever. Amalgamating schools would definitely help to get more exposure against top schools from outside the county at underage, but the real problem for football is that it will also be second in Limerick. It has a small pick to begin with and with the county not allowing dual under-age, any decent dual player is obviously going to pick hurling. Having dual players at senior inter-county is probably not possible now, but it definitely is at under-age level and there has to be dual players who don't make it at senior hurling level, who would be decent inter-county footballers but because they are not involved in football at any stage under-age, they are lost to the county footballers. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1149 - 10/03/2025 12:55:44 2595743 Link 0 |

I don't know about other counties, but it would be very few I'd say. Divisonal team like they have in Kerry is a great idea. It would give lads from junior & intermediate clubs much more exposure. We do need to start thinking of other ways to promote & lift football in the county as the football academy sadly doesn't seem to be improving things. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1149 - 11/03/2025 14:50:18 2595952 Link 0 |
I'm not sure of the buy in from clubs, at a guess I would say the West could field 1 team. The rest of the county may field a 2nd team. You often have good Footballers in Hurling dominated clubs. They will inevitably become disillusioned with Football but maybe the idea of a chance of playing Senior might push them on. Southsham (Limerick) - Posts: 752 - 13/03/2025 09:39:55 2596190 Link 0 |
A thread not a forum... Dont think schools amalgamating is answer. Unless you improve coaching KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3780 - 13/03/2025 10:56:08 2596216 Link 0 |
Great result in Aughrim. It seems that they really pulled it out of the fire. If they keep the heads they should account for Waterford in the final round a take a step up the ladder! But they need to stay focused! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2308 - 16/03/2025 21:45:38 2596811 Link 0 |
Yeah it was a great result, given where they have been coming from over the last 2 years. They kept coming back each time Wicklow goaled and they held their nerve at the end as well. I didn't think they would be in the hunt to get promoted this year but it is in their own hands now. They always seem to beat Waterford easily in the championship but not in the league so next week may not be plain sailing. The turnaround this year has been great to see as confidence must have very low after the last 2 years.

Great Result at the weekend for the Senior Footballers. Southsham (Limerick) - Posts: 752 - 31/03/2025 16:40:20 2599752 Link 0 |
Yeah Wexford looked dangerous but Limerick got each goal at the perfect time when the sides were level. Tommy Childs was excellent and I thought Cillian Fahy Darragh O Siochru and Emmett Rigter played very well also. The turnaround since 2023 and with the player turnover has been impressive. Jimmy Lee has done a great job. It is too much to hope for a shock result vs Cork on Saturday but running them close would continue their progress and they can go into the Tailteann with some confidence. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1149 - 02/04/2025 22:25:30 2600231 Link 0 |
Well done to the Limerick footballers for making it to Croke Park for an unprecedented second time in the same year with another great win over a decent Wexford team. They didn't panic when Wexford got to within a point in the second half and 4-21 is a huge score even under the new scoring rules. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1149 - 15/06/2025 18:25:12 2617799 Link 0 |
Another very good showing from limerick today and huge credit due to all management and players..they've gone about things nice and quietly and have hardly been mentioned in any conversation about possible winners..I'd give limerick a huge oppurtunity against any of the teams left. Limerick kicked 2 2 pointers, Wexford kicked 6 which shows how much better Limerick were on the day. Kildare the obvious favourites to win it outright but Limerick are very evenly matched with Wicklow and they who were lucky to get a draw against us in the League. Good chance to get a final.

You have a good team, pace up the middle and a good goal threat, something we had more of in the League game in Rathkeale but something we lost alot of with the injuries to Byrne, O'Connor, Pettit and Nolan . We will need to get our 5 injured starters back and work at our transitioning back, probably get some pace and dog into our middle 3rd, before we play you in next years League if we are to beat you.

Jaysus Viking, 4-21 to 2-19, I thought it was a hurling game when I saw the scoreline. Watched in back. Two good teams, footballing-wise and for skill too, but Limerick has great aggression and doggedness, which you need in all sports at all levels.

Yep a very good chance to get to the final now, Wicklow will be thinking the same. I said they were in bonus territory now, but if they lose, it will be a bit more disappointing than losing to Kildare or Fermanagh, as we are the same level as Wicklow. Also it's a pity they couldn't play it on Saturday in Croke Park. There isn't a huge overflow from the hurlers supporters and with Dublin footballers involved probably not realistic capacity wise, but expecting any dual supporters to make the journey to Dublin on both Saturday & Sunday isn't viable. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1149 - 16/06/2025 21:26:56 2618504 Link 1 |
You mean you were lucky to get a draw in Aughrim in March. We thought we had it won.
