Galway V Donegal League Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With league final likely to be Galway and Donegal. Should GAA postpone league final until later in year? Unfair on Donegal to play a final a week before Derry game in Ulster. McGuinness will prob put out the u20 team.

Given your shocking success rate of predicting match winners to date, I wouldn't be surprised if you've jinxed both teams now, and neither will make the league final.

Stupid thread but I would say hopefully Donegal do make the final and put out there second team or something like that, which will show up how badly organised it is by GAA.
It happened Mayo but didn't really get any coverage on how badly the fixtures are organised, so needs a Jim McGuinness who RTE love for it to get shown up, talked about and hopefully changed in the future.

I cannot see Donegal in the league final simply because I don't think they want to be there. Galway appear to be the only team that have any interest in winning the final this year. The league is an excellent competition but with majority of the teams trying to avoid final due to its proximity to the championship a league title has lost its value.

lol Galway still have to play Dublin away and Kerry at home. Two fairly good football counties last time I checked. A lot of football yet to be played. Hon Galway.

A wee bit premature but merits discussion IF Donegal do indeed reach the league final. I'd be surprised in the extreme if Donegal put anything near their starying 15 out. It's a shame because the league is a great competition in my opinion. It's a national medal at the end of the day, and a competition we've only won once in our history (Div 1 2007). But obviously Championship will take priority.

It's a shame for Allianz, who have been great sponsors of the Leagues for a long time now. Managers are fairly open about where it lies in terms of priority. I guess it goes back to the old split-season chestnut. Mad panic to play off the Championship by mid-July. Even if the GAA gave themselves another month, and play the AI Final mid August there would still be loads of time for club action, and it would free up some weeks between the league final and championship starting.

League is a fantastic competition and the gaa makes a shambles of it by having the Ulster prelim one week after the final so that leaves teams wanting to just get safety in div 1 and besides Dublin and Kerry who will coast through there province nobody wants to be in a final, the provisional competition should be played in Feb/march and have absolutely no baring on the all Ireland series and then teams can give the league a proper rattle

wasn't a dig at anyone, well maybe RTE, but its who the media listen too and McGuinness would be one of them so if he came out hard against the fixtures then that would help for changes to be made.
McStay i dont think complained too much when it did happen to Mayo, he doesnt like to complain much in the media, might be to keep his job in punditry when he finishes with Mayo

Absolutely I agree AI final should be mid August, leave some room for the league final. not enough build up now to the quarters or semi finals in AI series either imo.
As far as the league final goes it's a shame that we will be better off avoiding it and that really devalues the league, Tyrone will be desperate for points and will bring a strong team to Letterkenny, I can see us losing the remaining 2 games, I expect to see all our senior players rested, maybe get some minutes into players returning from injury and give the whole squad a run out.

Murphy fairly loved burying that goal against mayo in the 2012 final! beat them on the scoreboard son.

I still laugh at the sight of little Kevin Keane trying to act the hard man with Murph that day. He looked more like a mascot and Murphy soon made him look like a wee boy.

Poor management by Horan that day.

1. Putting Keane on Murphy to start with
2. Not copping on to the imminent threat after Donegal spent their opening few attacks bombing early ball into Murphy.

It was only a matter of time before the right ball went into him in front of the posts. Lacey delivered and Murphy duly obliged.

First thoughts I had also when I seen who started this thread. Would expect Donegal to ease off and Dublin to end up in the final.

Galway are on fire at the minute, I think they will be a match for Dublin and Kerry in the league, so in betting terms, I think the National league is Galway's if they want it. Not sure what way the Connacht Championship is falling for them, but they are brilliant so far.

I can't see us reaching the league final, personally I think it'll be a Galway vs Mayo/Dublin/Armagh league final.

Its not that Donegal won't try to win the last two games, but its unlikely considering its our only chance the number of returning players who badly need minutes. Our two midfielders haven't played a league game this year, Michael Langan got injured in the 1st minute against Kerry in Rd 1 and Jason McGee hasn't played any time, but most others are now back and building fitness.

It would be nice to go all out and try and win the National league, but then we have 6-7 days until we face Derry, and we seen on Sunday that it will be no stroll in the park.
