In Football my dark horse would be Roscommon and in Hurling it would be Waterford though I was tempted to pick Galway due to my obvious bias. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2328 - 25/02/2025 11:38:34 2593118 Link 0 |
Now I know you're a winder upper. 2 teams you picked are stuttering in the 2nd tiers of NFL and NHL. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2086 - 25/02/2025 18:55:39 2593219 Link 0 |
Ha ha. That's the League. Big difference come championship. Ask Derry from last year.

If you're a betting man, those two would be worth a small gamble. You can get 66/1 on Roscommon winning the AI, and 25/1 on Waterford.

I thought dark horses meant a team with an outside chance of winning?

Very true. At those odds even if you only put 10 euro on it means you only lose 10 euro.

The days of a team coming out of nowhere to win the biggest prize are nearly gone, but you can still get mad results. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3404 - 26/02/2025 13:28:49 2593335 Link 0 |
We really don't care if we are a black, white or pie-bald horse as we go out and have always done to give it our best shot. That may or may not send some of the shiny horses out to pasture early and we still won't have won the title. Isn't that is what happened last year with one of the so called big three? Not a fear of that double coming true.....there is more chance of Man City winning the Premiership currently at 60/1!! Even though a few weeks ago City were 100/1 Jez City are sicking to watch this year......I'd nearly lump on Spurs tonight v City in pure disgust at 5/2 Spurs to win. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2506 - 26/02/2025 15:31:47 2593358 Link 0 |
My dad backed red rum many years ago at 66/1 in the grand national. He was the only horse to finish the race. I believe he was red not dark.

Not really dark horses but I'd pick Galway for football and Cork for hurling. Donegal (Football) and Limerick (Hurling) are two obvious candidates. Ryanteam (Cork) - Posts: 439 - 26/02/2025 17:15:58 2593381 Link 0 |
I'd say Armagh were probably in the dark horses bracket this time last year. This year, with all the rule changes, it might be a question of who adapts quickest. A possible chance of another outsider to win. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2522 - 26/02/2025 18:01:52 2593389 Link 0 |
You might get a good cash out value if the team goes far in the competition

Armagh are dark horses again this year and might have a good chance again in the football. In hurling my dark horses are Tipperary. brayballer (Wicklow) - Posts: 6 - 28/02/2025 16:05:19 2593737 Link 0 |
Surely to God the reigning AI champions can't be considered dark horses?

Having looked at the odds - the dark horse value would seem to be on Tipp hurlers this year. There's plenty of talent there; going well in the league yet still 6th favorites for the All Ireland. brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 400 - 28/02/2025 17:02:51 2593752 Link 0 |
