Hear stories of club asking their best players, in county squad, if they can play club and one week yes, county challenge game that weekend, next week could be no cos there's a competitive game for the county. U14/U16 usually runs from January to May. Doesn't sound ideal but on the other side leaves players, coaches and parents the summer holidays off when there's also a break for club games."
I think you must be mistaken. Don't think there are any national competitive competitions at u14/u15/u16 until summer holidays, July or August? There are only challenge games up to then. Also we don't have club underage championship games until June, and these would be midweek at those age groups. Are you sure yours are on weekends? That would be very unusual at those age grades.

To be fair to those over development squads and in my own experience they're being tasked and expected to do things and oversee things that they really shouldn't be doing and conversely aren't.

I see at home in certain clubs almost an acceptance of sure the ckub doesn't need to do much more, the squads will develop the players.

There's also a lot of exaggerated stories that do the rounds, such and such a county are doing this and doing that when the reality is different.

Club comes first, I've no problem with how its done here, the problem is clubs need to be doing more.

I've often wondered at home here would it be possible on certain dates that development squads invite players who arent on squads to spend a day doing a session and invite their coaches also just for the exposure, perhaps it sparks something in a fell that he's not had to date, it also gives coaches an idea fo what's bejng done and from experience I believe a lot of club coaches would

Just an idea.

I'm only talking about LGFA U14 and U16, not mens game. Definitely intercounty games between January, maybe competition not starting until March, though. In Meath LGFA, there are odd number, like U15/U17, club competitions starting in March and even, U14/U16, start at end of August/ early September. Dunno but I think a lot of counties have a different way of handling their underage club games and when county players are eligible to play for the club during the county season.

I don't know what happens in London but maybe they have the brains to steer clear of this nonsense.. Development squads are a complete waste of time and resources…they simply achieve nothing..!
