You can't come out with a baseless comment and then say "don't shoot the messenger" when someone corrects you. The style Kilmacud Crokes played was one of the most negative in the country. Even with two of the best forwards in the country they played 15 behind the ball and were very cinical fouling the whole time. They never played an "open football" style and rarely won by big margins despite their much better players. They got everyone back and played on the counter but often very slow and controlled, rarely giving the ball away. You could be right about a difference in opinions in playing systems but you have it the wrong way around.

Anyone who knows me on this thread knows where I'm from, where I work and let me tell you it's a very small world we live in. I don't hide behind ghost names, happy to share my opinions and any other information I have or was informed of. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1092 - 10/04/2025 16:14:46 2601410 Link 2 |
That was under the old rules, 90% of teams were playing same systems. New rules have opened it up a bit and taken full control away from coaches. Happy days

I have no reason to doubt you or your character or anything of the sort. But I totally doubt the merit of the reasons for coaching departures. Firstly, Corey and McMahon were picked as part of Brennans coaching ticket. I would imagine, the lads were selected based on the skills they could bring to the Meath set up. That would have been a core focus on how meath were to set up and play. To this end, all 3 would have come to the conclusion at the very outset if there was going to be synergy or not. Secondly, if this was a simple case of coaching style/tactics differences - then why not say that in the County Boards press release when the two lads stepped away? Thirdly, why did Robbie Brennan or Jason Plunkett decline to say on the record that there was a difference in tactics/coaching when addressing the media last Sunday? As a sub note, the County Chair sitting in on a post match media event is something I have never experienced in 30 years of matches. In my view, it left more questions than answers. Fourthly, why have McMahon and Corey been silent on the matter and not put the record straight that coaching/tactics was the reason for their departure? Fifthly, the team was motoring extremely well in the league. There were more positives than negatives from the Cork game (despite the loss we were better team). The last 3 games where we became a pitiful shell of a team. There were clear issues and I would feel that the sideline lost those games. This substantiates a coaching / style issue. Sixtly, at the conclusion of the League. Attention turns to Championship. I cannot believe that the 2 coaches would decide to depart when the season is half over. Surely who stick with the team and see out your term giving assistance to the hard yards put in rather than walk away before the main event. Look it, I have heard all sorts of rumours - from the credible to the totally illogical. I dont know fully as nothing has been put on record. The matter has not been addressed or clarified and remains so. Simply put, everyone can move on if the reason was coaching/tactics. I'd even believe it if it wasn't the reason just so we can move on. However, as long as this matter isn't addressed, it remains a big elephant in the room. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 787 - 11/04/2025 21:32:15 2601546 Link 2 |

The fact they've gone to Kilcoo still doesn't shine any light on why they left Meath.

Maybe not the full story but certainly a big piece of the puzzle, Lacey steps down from Kilcoo in January and the 2 lads leave Meath not too long after and now announced as the new coaches, wouldn't surprise me if RB caught wind of them speaking with Kilcoo and gave them an ultimatum to be either fully committed to Meath or hit the road. Would make sense that RB wouldn't want that coming out as it looks bad that coaches would leave a county team to go to a club team. Perhaps that frostiness in the dressing room between the coaching team had an impact on the players and why performances dropped since the Westmeath game.
