I see the fixtures for Leinster are on their website. It's a very tough draw with Dublin, Westmeath and Offaly in the group. 2 get out of the group and both first and second from this group only get into a quarter final. Compare this to group 2 which is Longford, Louth and Wicklow with the top team going straight to a semi final and the 2nd into a quarter and it seems very lob sided. This Meath team doesn't have a whole pile of pedigree at minor but did retain last years 20's management and does have a lot of talent from probably 7-15. Nearly all the defense and the goalkeeper from last year were full age so that will be a question mark. Assume Dublin will be strong as they won minor in 2022 and 23 but hopefully we can put up a good defense of our title (nice to be able to say that) LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1549 - 14/01/2025 10:55:53 2585822 Link 2 |
Does anyone know if the 20s have a challenge match in Cork on Saturday? Heard something but not confirmed. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 211 - 20/01/2025 14:35:54 2586598 Link 0 |
As per Cork GAA twitter, 20's are playing Cork in a challenge at 3PM prior to the senior game at 5PM

That Cork challenge game was a very good match. Armstrong and Mcivor are some midfield pairing. Hard to believe Mcivor wasn't on last year's 20s team. Was really impressed with James Reeves and Conor O'brien too. A lot of players missing like Commons, Harkin and Corkery. Hopefully all will be back soon. Well done to Dunboyne on winning the Leinster B schools title. Back to back for Meath schools with Ashbourne winning it last year and it had been a good while before that since a Meath school had done it. Hopefully bodes well for future under 20 teams and the level of Meath schools football generally LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1549 - 08/02/2025 16:02:13 2590049 Link 0 |
Can someone explain the pyramid structure In schools GAA and a link to a roll of honour?

just read the comments re the Cork trial game. Is Armstrong still involved with the meath 20's/dev panel? I dont see the point in that considering he is leaving. Surely would make sense that lads who will actually be available should be given priority now? No hard feeling to the lad n hope the best for him but he has committed to a different future which negativly impacts on meaths fortunes so i dont see why he would be asked in again. Yeah Armstrong is still involved with the under 20's. He will be available for all the under 20's championship as he is only going to Australia after his leaving cert. Personally I think it's a brilliant attitude by him to commit to playing for Meath when he already has a pro contract waiting. Decent chance he'll be back with Meath in a few years given the rates of guys making it/not making it at AFL. I'm sure he'll set standards in there regarding athletic testing, GPS stats etc. Also under 20's is not knockout but it's not far off if you lose more than 1 game you'll be gone so he also gives us the best chance at a longer run which would develop the other players on the panel too

Schools GAA Structure operates on a lettering basis for divisional ranking. A is the highest grade and works its way down to D grade. Within these divisions there are changes within competition structure. Grade's B-D operate off regional provincial competition first. For example O'Carolan College Nobber won the North Leinster C' title a few weeks ago. In Leinster grades B-D there are 3 regional competitions. North, South and Dublin which I believe are all knock out. I believe a predetermined draw is made to see who automatically enters the Leinster final. The other 2 teams play a Leinster semi- final to reach the final. The winners of the Grades B-D provincial competitions then enter the All-Ireland Semi Final's and eventually final. The A grade competition is different as it based solely off one provincial competition. There are groups and then a knockout phase culminating in provincial champions and then the same structure for the All-Ireland championships as grades B-D. St. Pat's Navan are an A' football school. The age groups within these competitions are Juvenile (u14.5), Junior (u16.5), Senior (u18.5). The basis of what grade a school may compete at varies. I believe schools can request to move up or down grades based on the strength of a particular year's teams. What you sometime see at lower grades, for e.g C' grade, is a school with a talented team who would easily compete at A' grade in that particular year, run away with an All-Ireland but previous years or future years teams mightn't be as strong. That is why there is an element of luck with school's football and what schools are operating at each level. Hope that helps! 3rdmanin (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 11/02/2025 12:58:27 2590584 Link 1 |
Great summary! I wasn't sure how it worked either! I take it Pats are the only Meath team at A grade?

Was at the 20's challenge game against Armagh in Navan. Mixed display but by my count won by 3 in the first 2 period which totalled about 55 minutes. Jamie Murphy got 1-11 by my count and the 2 pointer really suits him. I'm not sure this team is as well rounded as last years but the core of the team seems very strong and they have a proven management over them. Only about 3 weeks until they have Dublin in the first round in Navan so hopefully some injuries can clear up in that time LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1549 - 03/03/2025 14:13:58 2594441 Link 0 |
Looking forward to watch this team play, they have been going well in challenges. The Dubs first up is such a tough draw. In the games I saw the full back line was definitely the weakest line. Like last year I think we will be very reliant on Jamie Murphy for scores. Armstrong and Mcivor in midfield should be an advantage against most teams. Hopefully Cathal O'bric can work his magic on this team like he did on the 21 minors and 24 u20s. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 211 - 20/03/2025 12:38:15 2597459 Link 1 |
