Good to see Cathal O'Neill back yesterday for UL, he started rusty but was getting better by the end. Coughlin and O'Connor were OK and English was good, O'Donovan wasn't in it but the field was terrible. It wouldn't suit the lighter lads like him but considering the good fields they played on up.until now it wasn't fair with all the talent on both teams. That's the 2nd year in a row the final has been played on a terrible pitch. updwell (Limerick) - Posts: 869 - 16/02/2025 13:26:21 2591328 Link 0 |
Yeah it's a disgrace to expect fellas to play a final on a surface like that, it was in bits.

Yeah you have to wonder who makes these decisions, made it next to impossible to play good hurling. I guess it was meant to be played under the dome which was destroyed but surely there was an all weather pitch or maybe move it to Salthill which would have a slightly better surface.

Was In Salhill a week or so ago Field was even worse than Saturdays it looked a very bad choice for this fixture wont worry the UL lads great to see the Limerick University teams at the top for once good for Clare and Limerick teams a bit of exposure and a very well earned medal some may say that the Fitzgibbon doesn't matter but not my opinion.

In fairness Fitzy the beach in Salthill would be better than Pearse stadium at the moment In all seriousness though they have been playing in college grounds for the last month which were very good for the time of year so why do they switch to club grounds for the final and didn't they have a match on before the Fitzgibbon final as well. updwell (Limerick) - Posts: 869 - 17/02/2025 18:29:51 2591653 Link 0 |
It's definitely a great competition, always some great hurling in it.

It's a pity now that it is such a squeezed competition, the weekend semis and final used to be fabulous with huge crowds attending college grounds.the pitch looked awful and didn't help the game at all,I know most grounds have really suffered due to the weather.
