Replying To Fitzy01:  "Couldn't disagree more, I assume your comment is a wind up :) Kinnerk is one of the games greatest coaches, a visionary who see things differently. Limerick play with play making corner backs, half forwards who can raid up and down the field and put up big scores, half forwards who are expected to work so hard and cover so much ground, they will rarely see out 70 mins, they took every single aspect of the game from fitness and conditioning to hooking, blocking, striking and passing and took every skill of the game to a new level. You are right they did hand pass more but they also ran more, hit more, tackled more, scored more, stick passed more and held possession better than any other team. They brought hurling to a level it was never played at before and it took the top teams 4-5 years to adjust and catch up and as this team is aging things have equalised. Sean Og O Halpain for example was a superstar in the 90s am 00s but had he anywhere near the hurling ability or craft of Kyle Hayes or a Diarmuid Byrnes. I'm sorry if you find that boring, I find that hard to believe. If perfecting all the skills of the game is boring then go watch Junior matches and you'll still see plenty of hit and hope plays.

Also what a lot of people failed to realise is that Limerick were given a framwork to play in but they have total freedom within that framework to express themselves. Cian Lynch was to free to do flicks and tricks, Hego can back flick the ball into his hand, Players can interchange positions, they could do all this because every one of them had to be comfortable recieving the ball in pressure and being comfortable on the ball whether you are a goal keeper, corner back or full back.

Also your point about scoring boring points from 50 60 yards, by far the most common way Limerick scored was the simple left to right ball long ball into either Gillane or Flanagan. Tradtional ball in, the difference being that they created space first and choose when to deliver and the ball would always favour the forward."
Superb post.
