I don't like being patronising but that was a huge result for Carlow today..I've seen some Carlow club hurling and it compares very well with a lot of other top counties.I've seen a good few lads in fitzgibbon hurling and they can more than hold their own.kavanagh would get into most inter county sides,he's a class hurler..the results in 1b will be interesting for rest of league..great win for Galway today and they actually showed fierce fight for the result today..mannion was excellent and when he's going well,Galway seem to..lee very impressive as I thought were mcloughlin and Fleming also Kevin cooney.tipp look to be flying and the match next week against our fellas might give a better id a of where they really are..delighted with limerick result because I did think cork would win.1a is going to be very hard to call and outside of Wexford any of the other 6 could end up relegated with them.has the making of a very competitive year.. We could get a couple of results yet. Galway turned around a hammering to beat Kilkenny, who beat Clare last week. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3322 - 02/02/2025 21:31:38 2589059 Link 1 |
You are writing us off early!

They did that by bringing back all their best players except Cathal Mannion. Kilkenny played nearly all their best players too.

Look I'm writing ye off just due to the number of players ye are missing..if ye got some of them back I'd definitely give ye a fighting chance.no county can go out missing the experience ye are..the only thing is giving some players time now can only benefit in the long run..I want to see Wexford back at the top and competing for Leinster champuonship and more importantly in with an all Ireland chance.. Fantastic win for Carlow. The result of the weekend. Sets the cat amongst the pigeons. Dublin and Waterford were expected to stroll to the final for 1A promotion. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8488 - 03/02/2025 05:21:38 2589122 Link 0 |
They will pretty much all be back over the next few rounds tbh. Dwyer and Jacko came on today looked ok, although neither would be in our best 6. Kevin Foley and Dunbar wouldnt be either but are both regular championship starters, played last week but were rested yesterday. Of our best 6 Rory was only banned for a game, Chin is back training since the week before last, not sure what exactly is wrong with the 2 Recks, if anything, Jippo is recovering from an operation and Mac didn't play either. What was very apparent last year was we need our panel to be better, and we need to find a couple of new starters. We have had some goodish u20 teams, lost the last 2 Leinster finals but one by a point and 2, We won't find a couple new starters or improve any of those lads stepping up if we don't start them. If we only start 3 or 4 a game like the other counties except Clare are doing we will take longer seeing are they all up to it. If any. If we are going to win Leinster this year we need to see more of them more often in the League. They improved a good bit from week 1 to week 2. The 2 lads making their first ever start yesterday both played well. I think Rossiter is spot on. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 14518 - 03/02/2025 08:14:45 2589129 Link 0 |
Makes for very interesting promotion and indeed relegation battle. Waterford and Dublin in Walsh be crucial game as might be our one in Parnell against Carlow, especially if Carlow are still in the mix. Carlow's eyes will of curse be focused on getting out of McDonagh agian - by no means a certainty - but promotion be almost an equal prize in terms of long term development or would it? Westmeath might argue otherwise. Very difficult group of 4/5 contenders either side of the top tiers to negotiate. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3350 - 03/02/2025 09:37:40 2589147 Link 0 |
Waterford were not good but that is not doing justice to Carlow who were good. They have been proving this for some time now. I said last week this time of the year all teams are going to be equal and predicted this result. Carlow were more than equal. A draw against the cats in the championship last year. Big physical team who use it and plenty of skill to boot.

As an aside: Wexford were nearly relegated to the McDonagh two years ago. In the very extremely unlikely event that the McDonagh runner up were to win the All Ireland, should they be promoted instead in that scenario? legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8488 - 03/02/2025 23:54:26 2589321 Link 0 |
I'd say we can cross that bridge if we come to it?

And I'm not saying we can cross that bridge when we come to it because we would've gone down in 2023 in that scenario. We finished 4th in the Round Robin that year.

I do think Wexford are being written off a bit prematurely. Ye have ourselves and KK at home and while it will be a big ask to win both it is a very manageable path to 4 points which will put you in the mix. I think Galway and wexford will both be looking at that as a must win to stay up so it should hopefully be a spicy game.

The most likely way it would have to for sure. Another aside: a small change would be for the McDonagh winner to take on the third placed team from their province. Currently the McDonagh winner takes on the Leinster and Munster third placed teams in rotation. McDonagh winners will have more of a buzz taking on a future provincial rival. Laois v Dublin and Carlow v Dublin worked out nicely. Offaly taking on Wexford instead of Cork last year would have been more appropriate for the McDonagh winners. A taste of what is to come in the next year. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8488 - 04/02/2025 10:02:29 2589364 Link 0 |
Also with it being the 2nd last game for us it should mean both of us have far more experienced teams out, likely not far off our championship teams you would imagine.
