Bit of bite to the game too. Isles man got the line. Both teams close enough to likely starting 15s next weekend.

Excited to get started now I must say.

Particularly looking forward to three Saturday evening home games.

Our own ambitions are humble enough for this year. Continue to develop the style, find a few players and don't get hammered while preparing for a good go at a rebuilding Leinster championship.

We could struggle to stay up but not too worried about that this year.

Congratulations to Na Fianna, Dublin hurling is on and upward trajectory

Looking forward to this weekend some decent games to look forward to.

In Division 1A

Wexford V Cork - Wexford Park is always a difficult place to go to if your an opposition team, but I think Cork are flying it at the moment and will probably have too much for Wexford.

Clare V Kilkenny - Two teams quietly doing their own thing, little or no talk out of them in the build up to the league so little or nothing to go on, Should be a good tight contest as always, but I think as its in Ennis I go for Clare by 3 points.

Galway V Tipperary - This could be a very tight game. I am expecting big things from Liam Cahill and Tipperary this year and by I know Micheal Donoghue is back in Galway but he is getting a 4 year term to rebuild a new team. I think this could be a draw.

In Division 1B

Dublin V Antrim - Very important match early on in the league but I actually think Croke Park will suit Dublin more than Antrim for this one and I think will win by 4 or 5 points.

Heart says Wexford, Head says Cork in the first game.
Kilkenny will name a much stronger team than Clare, who have a good few injuries, I think Kilkenny by 4.
Cahill will have Tipp flying early in the League, while MOD will likely name a pretty young/new team, Tipp by 3.

I think advancing out of the second division will be extremely difficult for us and how interested anyway. It is winter and all teams are more equal. Injuries, players gone and trying new blood will not be a resemblance of the championship team. All teams try new players in the league but keep the back bone of a team. I would not be surprised to see 9 or 10 changes. As well we tend to play down to the so called under dogs. No disrespect intended. These teams would see taking the scalp of Waterford a big boost and rightly so. Dublin and Antrim would be up there with us anyway. Not expecting much and it is not the best situation we put ourselves in.

Missing top two not be disaster for either yourselves or Dublin but its short run from that to championship, Don't have luxury to be too casual about it.

Think I'm going to revise 1 of my predictions, Galway by one.

I'd expect Waterford and Dublin nailed on at top two.

However Antrim and Offaly shouldn't be taken for granted. We got Caught by both of them last year.

Honestly think you're better off in 1b to prep for Munster. You can afford to try lads but still potentially win all your games and not be burnt out for the championship. Never underestimate the power of winning.

We're playing in a better competition but will struggle to pick up points. There's a real risk that we could lose all our games.

Risk is greater in 1a, but then again so is reward. If we get a few new lads shine against the other 6 1a opponents I'd take losing all our games tbh Doyler.

Be interesting to see what Lyng does this year. Stlll almost nailed on to win Leinster but he needs something to make them competitive against Munster big 3 if "famine" is to end.

Donoghue surely likely to almost write this year off to overhaul Galway?

So league be interesting for all sorts of reasons.

Looking at team selections,kk and cork gone very strong..Clare not so,tipp very new and a lot of familiar faces with Galway..Wexford are the unknown,a lot of retirements and plenty of new names..when was the last time or has it ever happened in kk that a player from outside the county played with the senior hurlers?im really looking forward to see can Fionnan Mackessy make the huge step up,I hope he does, because he has been excellent with Kerry and was pretty impressive in kk championship.

Galway are the only team with 4 away games while Limerick are the only team with 4 home games - why? All the GAA has to do to fix this imbalance is to switch the Limerick v Galway fixture next month from the Gaelic Grounds to Pearse Stadium - then every team would have 3 home games and 3 away games as it should be. But that would be far too easy and obvious so of course they will leave things as they are.

Limerick had a home game against Galway last year but it was switched to Galway due to pitch problems in Limerick. We have played Galway in Pearse Stadium two years in a row and I was at the two of them. There was a double header with Dublin last year and Monaghan the year before.

Gaelic Grounds was out of commission last year and so Limerick gave up home advantage for several of their league games
I think this is simply balancing that out

Nice clinical win by Dublin with just 6 regulars from last year. Some of new lads very impressive and nice defensive set up in absence of Paddy Smyth and proving that Eoghan not be missed as much as predicted.

Antrim very disappointing. They have always brought a bit of fight and edge along with skills. All mostly absent last night. Hope they recover.
