Very harsh red card for Offaly v Waterford, it seems like there is no allowance now for any shoulder to shoulder that isn't perfect. Anybody sent off tonight now will miss championship matches which is tough. When they didn't rescend the Tynan sending off v KK they won't change many decisions. updwell (Limerick) - Posts: 894 - 22/03/2025 16:31:33 2597809 Link 0 |
To be fair I'm not Johnny Murphys biggest fan.. but what's going on today? He's throwing cards at Offaly today for fun. His decisions are aways very pro Munster twbm (Clare) - Posts: 26 - 22/03/2025 16:32:37 2597810 Link 0 |
Proven last year against Wexford, carded Rory O'Conner after 10 seconds, literally no common sense.

It was not a red card. I have said it over and over no red cards without review. Stop the nonsense the lines men plus the ref cannot get these right. With regards Johnny Murphy he does not do Waterford any favours now or ever. He wants to be the centre of attention. The treatment he allowed of Bennett that should have got red cards not the one he got wrong. Anyone who witnessed at the game of the off the ball and on the ball dished out could see it. Anyway great to see Offaly get better and their future looks good.

Donegal are relegated from Division 2 despite grabbing a headline win during the league. Derry comfortable winners over Donegal today. Kildare and Down promoted as expected. Kildare and Down can look forward to taking on Clare and Wexford next year. London and Mayo can look forward to talking on Laois and Westmeath next year. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8642 - 22/03/2025 20:27:08 2597846 Link 0 |
There is no tackle allowed anymore. This is the reason for pulling and dragging, Hands around the neck throwing the ball and a lot of the nonsense going on. I got lambasted for this before but will say it again. A frontal hit should be allowed like a shoulder to shoulder with certain stipulations. No hitting to the head. No running at the player, just one step. Elbows down both hands down. Stick below waist with both hands on it. Could the officials call this ? No, so probable a non starter. Can the officials implement consistently what exists. NO. The modern game speed requires two refs and review for all red cards. Get rid of these jokers of linesmen. We seen one yesterday who is a ref, making a complete farce of a call against the Offaly player. The ref seemed more interested in a personal feud with Stephen Bennett allowing open season on him and actually allowed his personal vendetta to be part of it, contributing to it. This was incredible to watch in reality. Bennett was yapping at him but with good reason. His injuries have been targeted by teams as a way to curtail his effectiveness. I don't rail on refs but the carry on of the ref yesterday was despicable and just showed his in ability to do the job he is out there to do. Are our games officiated any worse than any other sport ? Yes they are and it is time to correct it and stop offering excuses. You can't do this. You can't do that. Keep away from technology etc. On the game. The rise of Offaly is something to behold. The reality is they would run out of numbers for the score board if any of these two teams were playing Cork. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2992 - 23/03/2025 17:25:31 2598024 Link 0 |
To be fair Canuck that's bennets biggest problem, he never stops yapping. Always sticking his beak in where there's no need for it.

Bon I applaud what Bennett has contributed to the game of hurling and the fact he continues to give to it when others might decide to quit. If you were at the game yesterday there was absolutely no excuse for the way Johnny Murphy behaved towards him. To say that Bennett yaps more than a dozen other players in the game is selective. I have seen him in dozen of games where he says nothing only shows his skills. Just because he asks the ref for protection from being targeted is no reason to be railed on. I would say the same for T.J. or any of our top players. It is fine from the comfort of your couch but this bordered on thuggery yesterday from an official who should protect the players.

You are very wrong there Canuck. A shoulder into the chest of a lad running the opposite way is a ribbreaker. Should be an automatic red.

If a shoulder isn't perfect it can be very very dangerous ameith the speed and size of the modern Senior players. Of course it should be a red.

Viking I am talking about in the rucks as opposed to ripping the head off the player. There is zero tackle now allowed to depose the other player. In fact every shoulder to shoulder hit is not called for a free if one player goes down.

So you want no shouldering allowed basically, it should be banned altogether, that would be a huge change to the game. What happens with 2 players running for a 50/50 ball together- no touching or contact allowed is it?

One would probably know who the other is and give way maybe

Of course contact is allowed. But if you line up a fella who is running full pace with the ball you need to make sure you don't mistime your hit, or you should be off. If 2 players are going for a ball running beside eachother it's not a dangerous tackle, as there's not going to be the same impact.

A rucks a completely different situation. The players are standing relatively still.

So you are saying a shoulder to the chest or head at high speed is OK once the tackler didnt mean it? That's an interesting take on the subject. Basically if a tackler knocks a lad out cold that's OK? And who decides if the tackler meant to hit someone in the head then? The referee in real time? Sorry Viking I think my comment went over a lot of people's heads here!

What were your thoughts on the league lads ? I think it's been very disappointing can't remember many good games. What format would bring the best out of the league Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 483 - 24/03/2025 09:56:14 2598212 Link 0 |
