Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. The only game in Breffni since the new chairman was elected was the All Ireland Semi Final and the programs for that would have nothing to do with Cavan Co Board

So with 100 hours left to the throw in against Monaghan can anyone hazard a go at naming the time that will take the field against Monaghan and hope to get it 75% right? Breffnisbest (Cavan) - Posts: 474 - 21/01/2025 10:04:35 2586735 Link 0 |

Very exciting to see how Cavan take to the new rules. Really different talk on the rules. No better to start than against the Farney in first game. Games will come thick and fast. Cavan67 (Cavan) - Posts: 18 - 22/01/2025 12:25:16 2586938 Link 0 |
Gearoid, Cian Madden and Oisin Brady won't be available through injury

Not the start that was needed…. Monaghan were the better team no doubt about that… Meath now turns into a vital game… looser of that game will face a battle to survive relegation..! ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3675 - 26/01/2025 09:32:52 2587582 Link 0 |
Decent performance. More positives than negatives. Positives being the new lads, McEvoy in particular. Molloy with a good debut. McVeety looked fully fit and had a brilliant game. Some of the older lads looked very heavy legged, let's hope it's the time of year rather than age 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 401 - 26/01/2025 12:37:49 2587626 Link 0 |
100% agree on the rules. The stated aim was to make the 'product' enjoyable to watch, which was interpreted as high scoring it seems. While something had to happen to break the stalemate in the game, the mistake was a total misdiagnosis of the reason for over-and-back possession football. We need a CONTEST FOR POSSESSION in the game. What we have now will turn into a nice run out for the suburban moms and dads to watch while knowing FIachra and Sennan won't get too roughed up. Or dirty even. Put it this way, Monaghan went to Breffni last night with half a new team and a lot of big names gone or missing, we were apprehensive no doubt. They racked up 2-22. As Monaghan supporters we should be buzzing today, instead it's all a bit, well, nice. Would rather have won 15-11 in a proper contest than what we saw last night. Cavan will be fine in Div2 by the way, whenever they get a few things sorted they will have much too much for Louth, Down, Meath and Westmeath. Great crowd in Breffni Saturday night and a very high scoring game, new rules will take a bit of getting use to, but one positive I took from watching all the games overs the weekend was teams willing to attack (bearing in mind, the semi-final of the McRory Cup on Sunday) finished 5 points to 1 goal to Maghera, so I can see why things needed to change. Well I expect G McKiernan will be one of Chavan's top scorers from double pints. He is the best play Cavan have to be able to score from length. Good that he is back and the best of luck to him going forward for this season.

We got more 2 pointers than most teams at the weekend but still ended up losing… we had an awful lot of bad attempts as well which is a major flaw with it as players end up taking pot shots when otherwise they would try and work it into a better scoring position…. Our inability to be able to get 3 pointers is more of a concern than picking players who may have a pot shot from outside this ridiculous arc..

I'm not sure you will to be honest, I think the reason for McKiernan being back is to put him in on the square, or maybe the thought is that he might kick the frees where there is double points available. Its a young mans game now and from what I saw Saturday night, a lot of our older players ran out of steam after 50 minutes but were still left on the pitch, at one point near the end, the Monaghan midfielder ran through the Cavan defence and our midfield were 20 yards behind trying to catch him. The main concern is old habits, McVeety carrying the ball into the tackle, Clarke giving away needless frees and mouthing resulting in the ball being moved forward. Monaghan looked a lot more iventive, they moved the ball quicker and had runners of the shoulder, whilst Cavan looked a bit more laboured and holding onto the ball too long at times. Plenty of time for improvement, great to see new faces, but Galligan needs to sort out the positions as some of the positions didnt work. Sadly Monaghan looked the better team, but at time Cavan played very well. Defo Cavan played well for the first 15 minutes, and last 15 minutes. The new rules were challenging, and will take time to get used too. Cavan had bad wides, alone with missing a free taker. This division is going to be so tight, and goals will be key. Cavan should have had a goal or two, and will need them going forward. Goals have been an issue for a few years, but there was plenty of positives to move forward. Cavan's biggest problem is their tendency to hold onto the ball for too long with needless soloing or lateral hand passing which slows the movement down too much… As good a player as McVeety is he has a terrible habit of soloing far too much .. Our deplorable goal return can be directly attributed to our slow build up play for the last number of years… Goals come from moving the ball quickly to the forward line before before the whole defence gets clogged up…It won't always end up with a goal but would greatly increase the chances of getting one….How these coaches and persist with this slow build up play and expect goals to come is nothing short of laughable..! Brady isnt injured, he left the panel due to a fallout with management.

Best of luck to the team today…. A big improvement in front of goal needed from the last day or we will be sliding towards the trap door….. We need to find a way to get goals…. ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3675 - 02/02/2025 11:46:49 2588859 Link 0 |
