Don't really have any viable full-back options outside of him though unless you think Conor Foley can play there (Because I'm not keen on Donohoe at full-back). The last few years, we've had a very soft spine at times, only have to look back at the two goals Antrim scored against us last year where they pretty much waltzed through our defence

Both those goals were on account of failings further out the pitch though. The 2 against Dublin on the other hand, especially the 1st one, were poor ones. The second one the free should've been delayed by the forward, and also the referee should've made it be taken again.

What team do we expect to see start Saturday lads? I expect to see minimal changes from the Limerick game Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 528 - 14/04/2025 17:24:13 2601892 Link 0 |
Not necessarily what I'd pick but If I had to guess for Saturday: Fanning Ryan Donohue Foley Molloy Reck McGuckin Hearne Lawlor Jack Chin Foley Dunbar Rory Byrne I would be hoping it's Foley at full back and Donohue further out the field, Molloy deserves a start and I can't see McGuckin being dropped if he's played every league game. Jippo has to start if fit. The man needs game time. He can't go into the Dublin game cold Wexfordgaa (Wexford) - Posts: 357 - 14/04/2025 19:25:12 2601918 Link 0 |
Yes I agree about Jippo. He needs to get into the swing of things before we meet the so called big boys. However if he's not 100% fit it would be silly to chance him and maybe causing him to miss our next games. We simply can't afford that. Forgot to include Jacko ( silly me) that means Jacko starts instead of Dunbar. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 428 - 15/04/2025 12:36:22 2602033 Link 0 |
If Jippo is 100% fit he should start but word is he picked up a slight setback a week or two ago before an in house game. We cant afford to lose him again so we need to make sure to only start him if he is ready. Id expect Jacko to start if hes fit to be honest probably over Casey. I agree with you Simon has to be midfield think he is way more suited to there. Hopefully there is a big Wexford following hard to know with it being a Saturday at 2 plenty of people could be working or away for Easter weekend.

Can't see a big crowd at it tbh and wouldn't say they're a potential banana skin either given they beat us last year and we only beat them by 4 points the year before

My team for Saturday if all are fit except mac and codd, would be hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1108 - 15/04/2025 17:08:40 2602094 Link 0 |
It's still a game we're expected to win though. Yes they beat us last year but we totally dominated them for most of the game the panicked. They had a rally in the second half in the park in 23 but we hammered them for 45 minutes then switched off. I'm not saying we've a right to win. We'll need to perform but if we play for 70 minutes we'll win this game and there's no two ways about it. The risk is switching off for any period in the game Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3514 - 15/04/2025 19:17:08 2602114 Link 0 |
If we have any ambitions of winning anything this year we have to win games like this .With all respect to Antrim there not near the top table we need to get a grip anything but a comfortable win would be disapointing.

I think it fanciful people starting Molloy in their line-ups when he has had very little gametime up to now in the league, for whatever reason. I feel the following is pretty nailed on, provided they roll the dice on Jippo. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1479 - 15/04/2025 20:22:50 2602122 Link 0 |
I'd pick the same 15 as you, though I doubt Keith will. Who would you put Mac in instead of, and what would you say to him to make sure he chases his man back if he's carrying the ball out? And makes runs outside to give our halfbacks and midfielders someone to aim for when we are in possession?

When is the last game you saw a Wexford team play that they didn't switch off for a period of it? Maybe the 19 Leinster Final? Even that game we had flat spells in it.

Galway last year? They were poor alright but definitely the best we've hurled in the last 5 years for a full game I think, even with 14 men for the last 20 mins. What makes that so frustrating is the two disasters in the two weeks before that is probably what yielded that performance. OpenStandWall (Wexford) - Posts: 241 - 15/04/2025 23:09:10 2602147 Link 0 |
Every team will have a purple patch in a game. I'd define switching off a little differently. To me it's when you suddenly stop doing the things that are working for you with no explanation. I'd say we didn't switch off against Galway in the park last year. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3514 - 16/04/2025 06:51:49 2602153 Link 0 |
I know and I agree but we just don't have a good track record in these games, we have to show that we've learned from our mistakes
ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 445 - 16/04/2025 07:18:33 2602160 Link 0 |
Galway or Carlow last year? Carlow got a.few scores in a row vefore half time but ya couldn't call it "switched off" I'd love to see us just go get the job done on Saturday with no fuss. It's a team we should beat. Antrim will be up for it etc. But if we can't beat them at home then we have no business thinking of Leinster finals. If we don't beat them at home then I think we are in a shaky situation where we could conceivably be in a relegation fight. WEXILE (Wexford) - Posts: 349 - 16/04/2025 07:52:22 2602162 Link 0 |
Agree the Galway game was as close to a 70 minute performance as I've seen from us since the 90s.
