I presume and hope all 3 will be back at some stage. Agree with you on Whelan , Molloy and Cillian Byrne. I think we will need to mix youth with some experience throughout the league. The Likes of Mac, Damien and ROC will need to step up as leaders. All we want out of the league is 1. A definite style of play that suits us 2. We are competitive as we can in every game hopefully picking up enough wins to stay in the top tier. 3. We need a couple of young lads to really grab their chance and be a certain starter for us come championship. 4. Keep Our big experienced players fit and hurling well coming into championship. Im really excited to see how all the new lads in the panel fare I think we could see a good few championship debuts for us this year

We know who we have for this year now and we just need to build with that.
Be great if Mogie did give it another year but I don't think he will.

I'd be comfortable enough if we finished bottom and achieved the rest in advance if the championship once we don't get hammered.
Ideally we'd have a settled 15 who are confident in their jobs for the Antrim game and beyond.

And success breeds success in that way also- lads would be more likely to commit if they thought we had a good chance of winning something every year, rather than maybe winning something if everything goes right for us (injuries, form, decisions, luck) in a given year. In that way it's also a vicious circle. A few good lads not committing means that consistent success is that little bit harder to achieve.

The fact he came back from the two serious injuries early in his career is amazing too. He changed his game completely from one reliant on explosive pace to just pure intelligent hurling. As Wexford players of the last 30 years go I'd rate him as one of the greats.
Having said that even having him in the dressing room for another season would be great.
A couple of the lads I know say he's a brilliant example in training and always going 100%

Im hoping the fact that he hasnt announced he is retiring yet it is a good sign. Id let him come back into the squad fit for the end of the league similar to last year

The problem is that lads want to go off and see the world for a few years and see what else there is in life. I have the world of admiration for the ones who give their entire 20's to GAA and Wexford but the fact is that there is more to life these days than hurling. The likes of Liam Og, Matthew, Dee O, Paul Morris, etc will be legendary because they are the last batch of players who will do it I believe. We all want Wexford to be successful but no lad should look back at 30+ years of age and think what I missed in terms of travelling, life, career and so on for playing hurling. If they look back with no regrets and think it was all worth it, good on them. I gave club GAA the best I could for 6-7 years and then wanted to see what else there was out there. Others gave the club nothing despite being talented. It was always that way. Inter county GAA is not a hobby any more and therein lies the problem. You need to be prepared to not have a drink or some clown will say "sure he was drunk in the pub last weekend, how could he hurl well" even if you had a bottle of beer with food. You've got constant criticism over a poor performance, you've basically to give up your life for this game and the return from it is questionable, especially if you want to go to a music festival or whatever and miss a game. That commitment is a choice a decreasing number of players are willing to make.

Him and Cian Byrne of the current panel. He has the fitness and workrate, and is a lethal finisher. Mac waiting in the wings if we want to go more direct or when Mogie tires and starts losing his temper!
